Bootleggers Modern American Smokehouse - Scottsdale Ratings and Reviews
Like the rustic western-like decor - and the seating is comfortable. Menu is terrific! Best Barbecue I've had since leaving Chicago. Lived here 8 years now, and have been to Bootlegger about five times since it opened. I take visitors there, family and friends… and they rave about the food and the service.
Definitely a Scottsdale five-plus star restaurant!
John (our server) was funny and very helpful but he neglected to tell us that the burger which sounded good on the menu was actually a delicious messy monster - not for the dainty :). Much laughter and many napkins later we finished dinner with apple pie moonshine. A delightful evening in old town Scottsdale.
Have dined at Bootleggers for lunches, dinners, and special occasions with guests - and everyone has raved about the food and service. Always a "let's go back to Bootleggers" when we plan our next lunch or dinner out! A place you can take family, friends and clients. As far as I'm concerned, Bootleggers is the best barbecue spot in Downtown Scottsdale!
We decided to try Bootleggers after finding the Saturday special, featured on the web site menu, was beef ribs. When we got to the restaurant we learned beef ribs were not available at all. Overall the meal was good, the service very good. It was a little loud for us. In the future we will go for beef ribs elsewhere.
This place is amazing! The deviled eggs were out of this world! And the dumplings, to die for! I'm not sure if these is much on this menu that would be disappointing! It's not just a bbq, it's a foodie paradise that serves bbq. Can't wait to return again and soon when visiting Phoenix. Moonshine drinks were also very yummy.
We came here for a long lunch on Thursday, enjoyed a few beers (they have my favorite, Mamas Pils, on-tap!), the food was absolutely outstanding. Every bite was wow-worthy. "it's like I haven't eaten in days and this is the first meal." I enjoyed the panko-fried chicken sandwich and my partner had the bbq lunch special with brisket and pulled pork. Very, very good food. We will definitely be back.
Our first visit to Bootleggers, Old Town Scottsdale location. It was Friday afternoon and arrived during happy hour which ended up being $2-3 dollar discount off of regularly priced drinks. The drinks were awesome! We shared the chili appetizer. The only down side to this was that we wish we had each ordered our own. It was so good!
I had the small order (6) baby back ribs and took three home with me. They were tender and delicious. I would order some extra BBQ sauce on the side the next time. The cole slaw did not make it into the to go box since I consumed every morsel. Home made and delicious. My boyfriend order brisket, which is available lean or fatty, your preference. He loved it.
The service was wonderful. There when you needed them and friendly, but not overbearing.
There are to many very good restaurants I would rather go to get a much better value for my dollar. The brisket had to much fat, and extremely small portions. It was tasty, but I should have got at least 2 to 2.5 times a more meat for the money. The prime rib was not bad, but no au jus, therefore a little dry. No salad, it was way to dark to read the menu, and the cheap metal chairs were not at all comfortable. I would never go back. This was my first and last visit.
Ate in the patio area. Very pleasant, nice fireplace. Unfortunately the food was not good. The bacon board sounded great however some of the bacon was bland, dry, or overcooked (hard). The pork belly was not overcooked and tasteless. The best item on the bacon board was the duck con fit -- very good. I also had the beef brisket and pulled pork. Both were overcooked -- dry -- and tasteless. If not for the BBQ sauce I would not have been able to eat either dish. Overall a disappointment.
One of our new places in Scottsdale to go for good BBQ. The BBQ pork is delicious and served in a cast iron skillet, so are the potatoes, which are also delicious, but don't touch the skillets, they are hot! This is a good thing since everything stays warm from beginning to end. BBQ Pork, Beef, and chicken and you can't go wrong with any choice.
My husband and I went to Bootlegger for a date night. We sat outside and it was a lovely atmosphere. The menu sounded great but they did not have the tofu dish we wanted. We each had a salad and they were delicious. After that we had to wait a loooooong time to get the rest of our food. The table next to us received much better service than we did and they kept getting their food way before we did even though they were seated after us. My husband had to wait a long time to get a second beer and by the time he received it, it wasn't the one he wanted, then our waiter went to get him the right one but the keg was empty so the waiter just picked out another and gave that to my husband. By that time we were just ready for the check. To his credit our waiter was very friendly. Perhaps Bootlegger was understaffed that night...
We really enjoyed Bootleggers, but more for the ambiance and liqour. The food was just okay for us. You can definitely find better bbq in Scottsdale. Although, try the bacon board. Pretty good stuff. The drinks were excellent. We tried a variety of moonshine (thumbs up for the Apple Pie), and i fell in love with a cocktail called the flapper. Our server, John, was fantastic! He was so helpful, engaged and charismatic. Overall, we enjoyed it and we will return.
discovered bootleggers right in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale, during a conference in Dec and immediately made reservation when I knew I was coming back in Feb. the food is to die for- smokey/juicy, ball-off-the-bone St. Louis ribs, brisket etc.... just absolutely superb. our server - Lauren- who I also believe is one of the manager's- was delightful and helped us through the expansive beer lists. (I recommend the craft flights!) they also sell their own moonshine (although I did not partake). thoroughly recommended.....a great find.
While not the best BBQ I've ever had, it was pretty decent. I was surprised that the pulled pork meat was so dry, and that there weren't any BBQ sauce bottles at the tables. Our waitress was very attentive, along with the other support staff (drink/water refills).
I think that we'd go there again for lunch and/or dinner to sample some more options.
The food was decent, a little overpriced but good. It was the service that was terrible from the moment we walked in. When the host seated us and we requested a booth, we were advised that there were many reservations. However, we noticed that booths remained open throughout our dinner. Secondly, our waitress essentially argued with a member of our party because she was given the wrong wine. We will not be going back, as if we are going to spend 150+ for an evening out, we are going to do it at an establishment that is aiming to please!
Great blues music and atmosphere. BBQ side dishes were memorable! Ribs were good and the Bacon Board was delicious! However, I was not impressed with the brisket and the heavy prices for average BBQ. I have been to all the great BBQ cities and have had the BEST in the USA! This place has huge potential but then the bill comes and you can't believe you just had BBQ. I don't think it should cost so much to get basic cooking skill BBQ!
Who knew moonshine and BBQ could make for such an upscale and fine dining evening? My husband and I recently dined here with friends and it made for a wonderful evening! Although the patio was a bit noisy (we were out there with a loud birthday party) and dark (more lights please!), the food made up for everything not to mention the moonshine! It's a fun little delicious spot easily missed if you do not know it's there.
I had a good time here for the start to my bachelor party. The Beer selection is amazing, The bootlegger burger is awesome, and the 3 moonshines we got are perfect. The scene is awesome to have a small dinner party because it isn't to loud and you can hear everyone.
The flight of Moonshine choices was a great way to try 3! Apple Pie moonshine was by far the best and so smooth going down! The 4 of us had the beef brisket, links, and shredded pork. The beef brisket was quite fatty but the other entree's were very good. The bacon board and nacho's for appetizers were a hit! Neat presentation for both. I believe this restaurant is now in the old Pischky's Paradise location for those of you who have lived here for 25+ years! Such a new and different dinner place for Scottsdale. Service was wonderful!
Nachos on happy hour menu was expected, but menu had changed dropping our favorite. Pulled pork was extremely greasy, grilled cauliflower was not evenly covered with onions and cheese. Brisket greasy and a lot of fat not seen previously. Water had a strange taste. Only the server was a pleasant experience, friendly and helpful
The food was just OK...I've had better BBQ and more of it for a better price. For the portions it was a bit overpriced. Also, the kids meal did not mention that there was Dijon Mustard dressing on the sliders. We had to send the kids' meals back, although they did comp us for them. We were also told that the beef brisket portion was enough to share, but it was not. On the positive side, the service was excellent, the cold slaw amazingly good, and the home made tortillas excellent as well.
While the food was appealing on the menu, it was way overpriced for the paltry amount you received. Mac & cheese for $4 or $8 the higher priced portion was certainly NOT $8 worth. The sides were not what any of our party were expecting and not as tasty as we hoped for. The BBC was tasty but for the amount of money we spent, Dave ' s BBC is a much better deal and their sides taste great.
The great part is the burgers and BBQ are excellent. Buttt, the service was soo awfully slow, it ruined the experience. Also, the chips with the burger were stale. AND they didn't have the first entree choice at all (ahi tuna slider) OR the beer desired (mere Corona lite!). Not a good start to the meal. Bottom line: Try another place first....
Excited to finally get a taste of Bootleggers after hearing so much! I was surprised at the lack of people in Scottsdale at 6pm on a Tuesday night for Restaurant week. Our server was attentive and made good suggestions. Bacon Board was a must and the flavors and combinations were tasty and whet our appetite for what was to come. The true appetizer wonder was the Nacho Flat though. That could have been dinner - amazing tender brisket and refreshing avocado. I sense happy hours in the future. Sampler plate seemed the best place to start. Rib was tender and succulent, bbq pork and brisket were moist and flavorful but I really enjoyed the smoked turkey most of all. Cobbler and Cherry Pie Shake were ok but not really needed. A must try!
