Boone's Baked Stuffed Lobster
Created by alexander boone in 1898, 1¼ lb lobster split and stuffed with even more lobster, scallops, and shrimp
Lobster, scallops & haddock, sherry cream sauce, over a toasted boone's popover
Oysters on the Half
Rotating selection of local oysters with house mignonette and cocktail sauce
Had a reservation for brunch on Mother’s Day. It didn’t appear too busy but the food seemed to take a while. I was disappointed with my crab cake Benedict. The poached eggs were hard and not runny. The hollandaise sauce seemed like a pile of just melted butter that accumulated on the bottom of the popover making it soggy. The “jumbo” crab cake in each half was the size of a silver dollar and should have been pan fried a bit longer. Seemed like something was missing and definitely missed the mark. The waitress was pleasant, service good and the setting was lovely outside on the deck in the morning sun.
I've not been to Boon's for brunch before but I have been several times for happy hour and dinner. Sadly I don't see myself back for brunch.
The food was average. So not a whole lot of positive things yo say except we did get what we ordered.
So the only way they make eggs is poached. Yep that right! No fried, no scrambled. No toast or sides yo order extra.
No biscuits but instead poached eggs served on over sized flaky biscuits of some sort. They weren't terrible but when you opened them they were hollow. Just not what I had imagined
Honestly is was like they were out thinking themselves and try WAY to hard to be fancy.
So in summary. Yes for lunch, happy hour and dinner but I suggest you go elsewhere for breakfast
Oh and it took 40min ish for the food to be delivered. It was just poached eggs. Come on man!
Server was wonderful but the rest was disappointing. Scallops were not cooked, 3 out of 3 steaks were cooked wrong and came out cold, and the baked haddock was underwhelming. Unfortunately this was the second time I have experience similar service from Boones. Again the Server was great however the kitchen supervisor position should be in question. Just some advice but I will not patronize this establishment again.
One of our favorites for great food and outstanding service!
Great food and service. The oysters were perfect. Highly recommend.
Very good waitress. Food was good. Wine selection wasn't great. but overall was very good.
Bad service - nice waiter, but all the dinners came out separately - nearly 15 minutes from the 1st one to the last one. Plus $19 for 5 small scallops - I mean, come on. 5 people, no drinks, $220 - just not worth it. Sorry, I really wanted to like Boones, but there are too many choices in Portland to go back.
The baked stuffed lobster was excellent but pricey
Food was excellent ... service and was very good/ friendly
Went on a bust Saturday evening in Portland because it was the only place I could get a last minute reservation . My wife and I were seated promptly. The restaurant was busy but not as busy as surrounding restaurants. The waitress arrived with a water pitcher but had to remove our water glasses because she noticed they were both dirty. We placed our order at approximately 7pm and received our appetizers and cocktails promptly. My wife’s entree arrived just before 8pm. It had been delivered to the table by another waiter. For the next ten minutes she stared at her food while waiting my mine to arrive. After ten minutes the waiter that delivered the food came back, apparently he noticed I was still waiting, and asked what I had ordered. Within five minutes he came back with my dinner. Both meals were average
The decor is very dated and worn. The interior was extremely loud.
We couldn’t help but notice the table next to us also had issues and had to send back one of their meals.
We eat out 2-3 times a week and this was the Worst service I’ve had in a long time. I was hoping the waitress asked how everything was, but she didn’t.
We will not be back
Kitchen was very backed up and it took over an hour before our entrees arrived. Once wait was over food was of good quality.
Service was good, prompt. Apps were good and delivered quick. We did wait a while for our meals but we weren’t in a big rush. Fish & Chips was good, decent size but prices kinda high at $26. 2 Korean Chicken sandwiches, good not fabulous, decent priced @ $14/each with fries. The biggest disappointment was the stuffed haddock at $36. Yes it was stuffed with other seas food but it was a very small portion and with a few spears of asparagus. I Mt was good, not great. I know this is a tourist area and Portland but that’s overpriced IMO.
Boones came highly recommended. The food was good but the experience was not worth our expensive meal. The hostess was extremely rude - pulled her mask down to yell excessively when asking to wait for a table outdoors, as it was a nice day and we did not mind the wait. Once we were seated our waitress was great - she was friendly and knowledgeable. However, we waited 2 hours for our dinner to come out and learned that the kitchen staff was new. That’s great - but please be kinder to your guests. On top of the awful service we had the 20% gratuity added to our check for being a party of 6. Was not worth the experience, there are many other wonderful restaurants in Portland I would have rather gone to and know I would have been treated 100% better at them!
This was for a birthday. Food was delicious as always. Super loud and very hard to hear the waitress but aside from that everything was excellent.
Warm lobster rolls are excellent. Julia is the best server!
We made a reservation for a party of six we arrived on time and the waitress was very inattentive the entire time. We were ordering food and adult beverages you would think that she would want to be more attentive but she never checked up on us and our fish tacos were tasteless and bland. When she finally came back to the table she gave us the bill without asking us if we wanted anything else so we just left and went somewhere else.
It was my Birthday and I wasn't happy with the table they sat us at. But our server and food was fantastic!
We were seated upstairs which is more of a pub space/bar area. Downstairs looked much more appealing with the fireplace and warmer ambiance. Staff were friendly, but it became obvious they were getting overwhelmed with a lot of customers. The staff did their best to handle the flow. Food was mediocre, definitely more like a pub. I would recommend it for lunch only or just hangout for drinks. There was plenty of outdoor seating upstairs and down, so it must be very busy during summer season.
In Portland for a few days, absolutely love this spot, on the harbor, for fresh oysters! Check out the Happy Hour menu from 2-5 o’clock!
Food was good but came out cold twice. I think it was because the chef was using a cold dish. It sucked the heat out of the food.
Good service. Good food. A bit pricey but not comparable city prices.
Long wait for food.
Seemed to be some kitchen/service issues.
Haddock was not available, which took quite a few items off the already limited menu.
Salmon entree extremely salty.
Appetizer didn’t make it to the table before entrees.
Waitress was nice.
Go for the ambiance, the waterfront, a beer. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. Don't go expecting to be spoiled by a luxury dining experience. The app was good, service kind (if slow), entree below par. Way below. With tip, we spent $170 on a dinner for two that could have been serveded in a diner.
We met up with old friends and had a great time! Delicious dinner, fantastic dessert and great company! Can’t wait to go back!
Small portions. Weird for a brunch. Bloody Mary wasn’t great.
This Brunch was outstanding. It was a nice way to end our weekend in Portland. We would definitely come back!
One of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had.
Good food, good service
Adam was a great host! Classic New England restaurant by the water with good food and great service. Skip the specialty cocktails and order some local beers. Cheers.
The atmosphere was nice and the service was good, however the food was just average. Not on par with restaurants in the area.
We’ve always had a good meal at Boone’s, but haven’t had brunch until now! Great food and good prices. We will be back.
We went for brunch and it was great! Super clean and the tables are spread out.
The popovers for brunch benny's are just amazing. I couldn't eat it all, but I had the crab cake benny and wow. There's a little punch of lemon in the crab cakes that pops through the egg and popover which is a refreshing part of the dish. My husband had the eggs and hash and cleaned the entire plate.
There is an outside area with tons of space and space heaters, but it was a bit too cold for us. Great puppy watching spot though. Lots of puppies on the patio.
I would recommend it to a friend. Nice atmosphere, great service
ask for adam at the bar - sit back and relax - simply an enjoyable experience
A good portion of the menu was not available, and became very quickly a consistent throughout our experience that when we asked for something the waitress had to come back and apologize for the restaurant not having it. The waitress was very friendly and accommodating. I would say that overall the food was good, but most likely would not try it again, especially with all the other options in the local area. I would not hold the negative experience I had against the restaurant though, because my party dined on a Monday afternoon after the first nice weekend during covid. Restaurant was just not prepared to replenish from their previous weekend.
It was Sunday evening after an extremely busy day and several menu items were sold out. Good for them!! The waitress was tired, but very helpful and overall we had a great experience and the food was wonderful. We shall return on another trip to Portland.
Our food was fantastic! Highly recommend! Our waitress was very nice but we had to keep asking her for things she forgot.
We ordered fried Brussel Sprouts which were amazing, a dozen oysters which were great but they gave a minimal amount of cocktail sauce which was annoying, and the baked stuffed lobster with a minimal amount of butter. All I can think of is that the kitchen staff was given a talking to for not over serving condiments.
So service is a 3 stars but food five stars!
Food was delicious and our waitress was great, only problem was that our brunch took 45 min to get to our table. Would visit again.
Fantastic time! Stuffed lobster is great for sharing. Brussels sprouts were great. Oysters are legendary.
Really warm ambiance. Fire places, low lighting, quiet. Perfect for date night or if you just want some awesome oysters.
The food was pretty decent but they brought the appetizers and the main courses out at the same time. As a result, it was not a relaxing experience.
