Michelle is the best GM of any restaurant I’ve ever been to!!!
Hubby and I booked a table for Restaurant Week for dinner. My husband had never been, but I had lunch with a friend the week before. Both experiences at Book Club were really great. Food was creative and fresh and the cocktail I had with dinner was excellent. The only drawback of the evening...the amount of very loud children and the screaming baby at the table next to us. We could hardly have a conversation! This is by no means is a mark against Book Club, but perhaps the parents of the loud children. In any event, we would definitely go back maybe at a very much later hour to avoid those issues.
Our food was very good - tarragon mayo hamburger and lemon herbal chicken. One person had the other hamburger with chili mayo, I believe. He ordered it withOUT the mayo, lettuce, tomato but it came with all.
Second time it came without mayo but still had lettuce and tomato. That’s easy to remove but it just gave us a chuckle.
Lovely interior. Wonderful and fresh menu. Fun for girls get together!
This was my first time dining at Book Club. Had heard a recommendation from a friend and so another friend and I decided to give it a go. Kim Bartman's group is pure magic when it comes to restaurants so how could we go wrong? Upon arriving, we were promptly greeted by a very friendly man sporting a handlebar mustache and seated quickly. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. We both had the tomato soup which arrived fairly quickly. Absolutely delicious, creamy with good depth of flavor. My friend had the grilled flat bread which she said was totally amazing. I had the "allium" grilled cheese. The combination of cheddar cheese, leeks, green onion, sweet onion, and garlic was a flavor explosion (of the best kind!) and the bread was toasted perfectly! Sipping on our bubbly rose, we agreed we'd be back soon to explore more of the menu.
We visited for brunch. Nice place. Service not bad, but with a few mistakes. Food was delicious.
Really good food and great service. I ordered the cheddar bacon burger and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. The fries were amazing as well. Everything was perfectly seasoned and delightful. I'll definitely go back for another burger sometime soon!
Brunch menu is amazing. Grilled Cheese, Home made potato chips with green onion seasoning, French fries, Avocado toast with egg, tomatoes and green goddess dressing all Spectacular. Oh, and the eggs Benedict with pork belly, to die for.
Service is fantastic and Dana (as well as everyone else) couldn’t be more friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Love this restaurant.
Very warm/friendly service overall, good ambience but food was only average. Great fries but salads were just so so and grilled Chicken was plain, average and not much flavor. We ordered coffees after lunch and were not offered cream or sugar and didn’t see our server again until coffee was cold and too late to ask for additions
Brunch. Food was marginal; not hot. Good service.
An intimate neighborhood restaurant with good service and great food. Order anything -- you can't go wrong.
Great meal and experience!
Unbelievably good food and fabulous atmosphere! I recommend them to everybody!
Love this place! They have great deals on HH drinks and their turkey leg is absolutely amazing!
We enjoyed our dinner out with friends. There were a number of open tables when we got there so I was surprised the reservation times were as limited as they had been online. We all enjoyed our meals and appreciated they didn’t rush us through the meal, we were there quit a while. We would have liked to have had a better selection of shareable appetizers. Overall, we would go back.
Great place for lunch, the flatbread pizza and tomato soup were delicious!
An adorably decorated restaurant in the heart of south Minneapolis. The Happy Hour menu was to die for with $5 cocktails, wine and beer and a full list of $5 bites. The french fries with Tarragon aioli were divine and the lemon shrimp skewers were delicious. I came for happy hour with a friend and will definitely go back. Looking forward to trying a full dinner.
Food and service was average. Menu was limited. They added an unexpected 3% Healthcare fee to the bill without notifying us. When we ask the server what it was, she stated it was to pay for the health care insurance of the staff. We thought this was a very inappropriate and should be disclosed prior to presenting the bill. The charge could be removed only when asked. Unfortunately, the servers suffer for the owner's decision.
The food was very interesting. Creative choices, savory entrees-great service. Very impressed with this neighborhood charmer!
We felt like our waitress was hurrying us along - as though we were a bit of a bother to her. Food was good, not very flavorful though. Overall, a decent evening.
There were 5 of us dining. The happy hour prices were great. We had the mussels and fries. The mussels were pretty good and the fries were good but nothing special. For dinner one friend had the fried chicken sandwich. She thought it was too greasy. Two people had salads and enjoyed them. Two of us had the rice bowl with short ribs. The short ribs were a little tough but all in all the dish was tasty. The waitress was very cheerful. Will try this restaurant again.
I had the rice bowl with shrimp and my partner had the crispy cauliflower burrito. The burrito was definitely the stand out, but the rice bowl was good as well - just not quite as flavorful as I thought it would be. We had fries as an appetizer which were excellent. There are definitely some other things on the menu which look really tasty that I'd like to try. We had some craft cocktails (which I can't find a list of on their website) which were variations on an Aviator Martini and a Manhattan. I'm not into sweet drinks at all - these were a little sweet for my taste, but probably most people would find them the right amount of sweetness. They were good, but didn't quite hit the "outstanding" mark in my book. The space has a nice feel to it - it's nice to see the old Cafe Maude space put to good use. Our server was excellent and attentive. The restaurant was busy when we ate dinner there, and the noise level was just a tad above comfort for me. I had to strain to hear some of the things my table-mates across from me were saying. Overall I'd come back here, especially at a less busy time of day to help with the sound level.
This is definitely my new favorite restaurant. Every staff member provided excellent service and seemed genuinely invested in our dining experience. The food was delicious and our server was kind enough to offer us a free dessert (we were there for an anniversary). The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, modern and sophisticated, cozy and altogether perfect for two book-lovers such as ourselves. The entire aesthetic of Book Club- food, decor, service, patio seating- was exactly what we wanted. We had a great time and will definitely be back; thank you!
Delicious food & a nice assortment of different kinds of food on the menu. Something for everyone! Really good cocktails, well made, nice pours. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Can be a bit noisy because of acoustics, but overall an excellent place for foodies & locals alike.
Love the breakfast menu and atmosphere. French toast is delicious!!!
Small and strange menu that doesn’t seem to go together. Dining at the end of August and no showcase of the abundance of local produce. Didn’t even like the cocktail list.
First time, Friday at 5:30. Service was good. A great non-traditional menu, fun to experiment. Cauliflower burrito was great, wife had the turkey leg and it was best ever. The croissant bread pudding was perfect, a great change from the drier varieties. Overall...great food at a great price. Will be back again.
Wonder menu! Great service. Enjoyed the rice bowl with shrimp. Will definitely go back.
Very slow delivery of food. 50 minutes after order. Eggs under cooked and very runny. Server excellent! Friendly and helpful
So, so loud here. Previous reviews were not exaggerating.
The service was very slow. The food was overpriced for what it was. There are many other places to get the same type of food that is better tasting and less expensive.
We were a family group of 6. Menu has unique items but we all had trouble deciding what to order. Nothing actually felt like the right choice. We ended up ordering a lot of different things. Very expensive that way. Not sure I would return.
Fun for my book club to meet at Book Club! Delicious and creative menu and great service on the patio. Would recommend!
The atmosphere was full of energy! The food was absolutely amazing!! The lemon shrimp alone made it very worthy of a spot to revisit!
Not well staffed. Server was great but super slow from bar and kitchen. Food was mediocre. Was better as cafe Maude
Waited an hour for our food. Noise level was unbearable. No apologies from management
With 1 exception, we loved Book Club: the noise. The food was fabulous and very reasonably priced. Apps, small plates, large plates, all creative and freshly prepared. Nice wine list with a good variety of by the glass offerings. Service was great with a knowledgeable and friendly server.
Outstanding if it weren't for the noise indoors. On a summer evening, we were seated indoors where the restaurant was perhaps 1/2 full. So loud, we couldn't hold a conversation at a table for two. Loud voices coupled with hard walls and ceiling was unacceptable. Luckily, they have nice outdoor seating on Penn, so we were able to move outdoors. Not sure if we'll go back in cooler weather due to the noise, we'll definitely be back while the patio is open.
I've been to Book Club before and enjoyed the experience. However, yesterday, our server put a real damper on the experience. I don't know if she was inexperienced or what, but she did several things to irritate us. She sort of rushed us and then indicated she wanted us to leave (we didn't take more than an average amount of time for brunch and the restaurant was about 20% full). She never brought the thingie to balance our table -- yet she hustled to do so for the men sitting next to us. She charged me for simple greens on my plate when the menu clearly states it comes with the dish. There was just a general laziness to her serving style which was almost laughable, except I had recommended the restaurant to my friend. The very young host was cheerful and pleasant, but he spilled coffee all over because he brought them out on a tray -- rookie mistake. I'm not in a rush to go back any time soon.
We had a great time meeting here for a friends get-together! The Book Club had something for everyone in our group... meat and seafood eaters, a vegetarian and a vegan. The food was good and our server was exceptional.
My friend and I both had the curry chicken salad on croissant with homemade chips for $13. At that price, I would have expected the croissant to be overstuffed with chicken salad. It was not and in fact, there were actual parts of the croissant that did not have salad on it. The curry flavor was very minimal. If I ordered this again, I would ask for a said of curry powder to provide flavor. I don't not plan on returning anytime soon to try out any other dishes.
