Bonterra Ratings and Reviews
Scotch egg and charcuterie were amazing as was my short rib in a Cabernet reduction. My daughter ordered a medium well done steak. It first came out medium rare. They graciously took it back and brought it out again in 5 minutes. The outside was done but not the inside. Since I had my food, I had shared with my daughter and we were both happy. They removed the steak from the bill without us asking. I believe that if we order another medium well done steak here we will order it butterflied.
My family dined at Bonterra for my mom's birthday. The building is beautifully done. Our food was amazing! The charcuterie is locally sourced and fabulous, the house made pickles and pate were a hit with the whole table.
Our entrees came in a timely manner, the filet, short rib, lobster tail, and scallops were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented.
The house made breads and scratch made desserts were worth every delicious calorie!
Our server, Josh, went above and beyond giving our party impeccable service. He was friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable.
We will return in the very near future.
My wife and I went for valentine's night. This was our first time at this restaurant and really looked forward to it. Since it was a special event night they did not have the regular menu but the food and service was good considering how packed they were. They have a great wine list and nice looking menu. We plan to go back and try them on a regular night.
Bonterra did not meet our expectations. Reviews I've read were glowing; the chef is touted as one of the best in Charlotte. However, the food had no flavor, was served lukewarm, and in some cases, not prepared well. Their signature dish, fried lobster, was over-pankoed and tough.
As we were pressed for time, we just grabbed a table in the bar area and had some appetizers and fabulous wine. Their wine list did not disappoint, nor did the grilled octopus. It’s quickly turning into our pre-concert dinner spot thanks to their wine selection and the convenient location to downtown Charlotte.
As always a great, no outstanding meal and wine pairing. Not sure what was with the LED light replacement in the chandelier however LED lights are far from a cozy and warm atmosphere. It did indeed detract a bit from the meal, I understand that there is cost savings as well as a longevity benefit from these lights however very distracting. The only complaint I can think of. Food, wine and company was awesome as usual! We will be back!!
Dinner with friends at Bonterra was very enjoyable. Our server, David, was attentive and helpful with the wine selection. All of our courses were brought to our table with care and timeliness. The food was served hot and was flavorful, although the shrimp, scallops, and rice dish I ordered had too much butter for my taste. As the restaurant became busier (we had a fairly early reservation) the noise level did not increase substantially or cause a distraction. The ambience, being in a former church, was quite interesting. Indeed, a delightful evening at a restaurant I would recommend.
My friends and I went there for restaurant week. Our waitress was awesome. As a matter of fact all of the waitresses and waiters I saw were busy and smiling. It was great and the only reason I gave four stars were my potatoes were cool. I didn’t send it back but if I had I am sure they would have been most gracious. I would highly recommend it.
Bonterra never disappoints....wonderful food, outstanding Chef, a great Owner (JD) (who's always around) and the best wine list and wines by the glass in Charlotte plus a lovely atmosphere! Our group was there for The Queens Feast and the menu selections in each course were great...something for everyone. We all agreed it was an outstanding dinner and our server, Anthony, was the best. Also, Bonterra has a wonderful bar -- a great place to meet for wine and cocktails and really nice selection of appetizers. Definitively 5 stars!
Hadn't been to Bonterra before so took advantage of Queen's Feast. Each item we had was very well prepared. Our server provided great service. Only downside was a group was noisily celebrating in a private room and the sound carried throughout the balcony where we were sitting .
Four of us dined here for the first time. It was Restaurant Week. We all loved the food and ambiance. The choices were good and portions decent (with the exception of the grilled octopus which was delicious but the single tentacle looked lost on the plate). The duck 2 ways app was outstanding as was the scallops and shrimp main. The vanilla brûlée was to die for. We can’t wait to go back .
The interior of the location was beautiful and unique. The service was fair, but given how many bodies were there, I actually expected the attention to be a bit more on point. The food was good, but I would have expected the vegetable portions, specifically, to have been larger.
Last January Queen’s Feast restaurant week, we discovered Bonterra and loved it - ambiance, service and amazing food and presentation! We’ve been back for Valentine’s Day, our anniversary, July Queen’s feast and now this January! Can’t say enough- always something different, unique and delicious!
Went Bonterra last weekend for Jan 2018 Charlotte Restaurant Week. Food was very good. There were a few mix-ups with our wine, appetizers and dinners orders, but after a few attempts, our server was able to get them corrected. Highly recommend the Braised Short Rib that was served for restaurant week - it was delicious!
The only two negatives are lack of parking (although they do offer complimentary valet), and the fact that we were not told by our server about the AAA gift discounted gift card purchase option during restaurant week....found out almost a week later when I saw the email from AAA....would have definitely purchased one while we were there last weekend.
