Bonterra is located in a renovated 100 year old church in the historic Southern District of Charlotte. Sommelier & Owner John Duncan has created a stunning array of 200 wines by-the-glass and an additional 300 selections from the cellar which comprises one of the largest wine lists in Charlotte. Featured in the November 15, 2000 issue of Wine Spectator Magazine as one of the New Wave Wine Bars in America. Winner of the prestigious AAA Four-Dimond Award and DiRoNA Award of Excellence. Complimenting John's selection of wines are the menu offerings of Executive Chef Blake Hartwick. Food was excellent from start to finish. Fried Lobster, She Crab soup and Beet salad were great starters. Filet for me and scallops for my wife were awesome. Soufflé for dessert was great. Our waiter Jeff was very attentive and helpful we really enjoyed him

Scotch egg and charcuterie were amazing as was my short rib in a Cabernet reduction. My daughter ordered a medium well done steak. It first came out medium rare. They graciously took it back and brought it out again in 5 minutes. The outside was done but not the inside. Since I had my food, I had shared with my daughter and we were both happy. They removed the steak from the bill without us asking. I believe that if we order another medium well done steak here we will order it butterflied.

This was our first time at Bonterra and it will not be the last. Our waiter, Dave, was very attentive and made great recommendations! The owner, JD, even came over and thanked us for coming in. I had the lobster tail and even though it was slightly over cooked it was still very tasty. Bonterra has a very extensive wine selection and the menu items come from local farms. The menu offers salmon, filet migno and a pork entree along with several other dishes. The appetizer menu offers Octopus, wagyu beef and a very tasty she crab soup.

My family dined at Bonterra for my mom's birthday. The building is beautifully done. Our food was amazing! The charcuterie is locally sourced and fabulous, the house made pickles and pate were a hit with the whole table.
Our entrees came in a timely manner, the filet, short rib, lobster tail, and scallops were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented.
The house made breads and scratch made desserts were worth every delicious calorie!
Our server, Josh, went above and beyond giving our party impeccable service. He was friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable.
We will return in the very near future.

My wife and I went for valentine's night. This was our first time at this restaurant and really looked forward to it. Since it was a special event night they did not have the regular menu but the food and service was good considering how packed they were. They have a great wine list and nice looking menu. We plan to go back and try them on a regular night.

Bonterra did not meet our expectations. Reviews I've read were glowing; the chef is touted as one of the best in Charlotte. However, the food had no flavor, was served lukewarm, and in some cases, not prepared well. Their signature dish, fried lobster, was over-pankoed and tough.

Fantastic as always! The food was cooked to perfection, service was outstanding and they have a great atmosphere! We took some friends from out of town there for dinner and they were very impressed with Bonterra’s.

As we were pressed for time, we just grabbed a table in the bar area and had some appetizers and fabulous wine. Their wine list did not disappoint, nor did the grilled octopus. It’s quickly turning into our pre-concert dinner spot thanks to their wine selection and the convenient location to downtown Charlotte.

Bomterra is the perfect spot to impress your date. It is a great spot for conversation as the servers do not rush you at all. All the servers are able to make great recommendations and the food and ambiance are wonderful.

The end of Charlotte Restaurant Week! NY Strip, Duck 2 Ways, Chocolate Ganache Cake, and Cheesecake. The restaurant was lovely, a converted church! Great service overall and amazing wine selection.

As always a great, no outstanding meal and wine pairing. Not sure what was with the LED light replacement in the chandelier however LED lights are far from a cozy and warm atmosphere. It did indeed detract a bit from the meal, I understand that there is cost savings as well as a longevity benefit from these lights however very distracting. The only complaint I can think of. Food, wine and company was awesome as usual! We will be back!!

Dinner with friends at Bonterra was very enjoyable. Our server, David, was attentive and helpful with the wine selection. All of our courses were brought to our table with care and timeliness. The food was served hot and was flavorful, although the shrimp, scallops, and rice dish I ordered had too much butter for my taste. As the restaurant became busier (we had a fairly early reservation) the noise level did not increase substantially or cause a distraction. The ambience, being in a former church, was quite interesting. Indeed, a delightful evening at a restaurant I would recommend.
