Amazing food, fried lobster tail is unreal!
Went with large group and server really did quite well dealing with such a big group. Service was top notch. Shared two charcuterie plates, one southern, one Mediterranean. Both were good. Would have cut the huge cheese wedges smaller a small most people share these plates. Bucatini pasta dish with lamb was very interesting. Others ordered chicken and loved it. My husband and I had the fried lobster tail. My cooked and crunchy batter fell off and lobster meat was overcooked, but sauce was great. Whipped potatoes were ice cold as were veggies. Didn’t complain as we were hosts of the dinner and didn’t want to delay our guests from eating. I would have ordered the halibut, but they ran out (8:00). This was really my only complaint, as rest of menu is heavy on the meat. Desserts were fabulous. Will come back, but on the eta,jet side to see if fish available.
My daughter was visiting from Richmond and I wanted to take her out for a special dinner. We both ordered the Alaskan halibut and it was the best we've ever had-fresh and cooked perfectly. Dessert was good (brownie s'more) but didn't compare to the quality of the entree'.
The service was also excellent. I would highly recommend Bonterra!
We were a group of four: two couples. Service was slow and waiter/waitress team were not well-coordinated. We were frequently asked if we wanted more drinks while there was no mention made of the delay with our food. When our dishes arrived, they ranged from disappointing (venison) to good (fried lobster tail). We did have a cozy table in the corner of the second floor of restaurant. Overall the restaurant was a poor value for a fine dining experience.
Awesome, fantastic food and ambiance. Great cocktails, excellent wine selection. The after dinner Port dessert and the 20 year Tawny Port was a great way to complete the meal. Can't wait to go way.
Bonterra has the best wine-by-the-glass menu in the city!
While the food was good, it was not remarkable and for the prices, it should be remarkable. I had fish, my husband venison. Both were pleasant. Portions were lovely. Our appetizer was lacking. Wine list was extensive. Dessert was fine. Our server had an air about him that made us feel that we should have felt lucky to be there - we almost felt that we annoyed him by our presence.
Perhaps our expectations were high due to the cost and ambiance of Bonterra but we were not impressed. I can think of many other fabulous dinning experiences where J would have rather spent our anniversary.
It was our anniversary and it was fantastic. From the Champagne to start to the amazing dessert, everything was spot on!!
The service was very slow. We waited about 30 min for the waiter to take our order and then had to wait again another 30 to 45 minutes for our food. The waiter did not apologize and he was rather snobby when we asked where our food was. Halibut was ok. Could have used some more butter sauce. Pork chop was amazing!
Liked the relaxed atmosphere
Great food, great service, great staff. Me and my wife were very pleased. I would definitely recommend this establishment to friends and family.
Great job as always! JD does a great job!
Incredible food and service. One of the largest collections of wine by the glass in Charlotte!
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. Our server was very attentive and amazing. Our food was even better. It was super savory and made from scratch just for us.
This was the perfect place. Love the setting and we had a group of 5 who had flown in from all over the US. Their server did not try to rush us at all but really helped us have a wonderful evening of food and fellowship. We all loved this place!
Four of us dined at Bonterra on Thursday night, and it was the first time for all of us. Zachary was our waiter, and he could not have been better. We will return!
Bonterra never disappoints. Food, drinks and service were all amazing!
Bonterra was everything that the reviews said it would be. Great food, amazing space in an old church, as well as quiet atmosphere. Service was very good, and outside of them forgetting out cheese and meat board (we werent charged) everything was very good. Serving size on the octopus app was small.
I was in the neighborhood and heard there had been some changes to the menu so I decided to check it out...
It was later in the evening on a Wednesday, not very busy in the dining room, bar area was pretty full. There were two waiters and they were attentive but didn't seem to have flow... He waited overly long to have our order taken and later when it was time for the bill.
The cheese plate appetizer was tasty - local flavors were nice.
My date had the short ribs, not the melt in your mouth experience she was hoping for - very fragrant but the meat was chewy and underseasoned. I tried the pork chop - it was perfectly cooked to temperature but the glaze was overly sweet for my tastes. The brussel sprouts were under done, hardly any char and very aldente... I believe it has a foie gras sauce that I could not taste at all. Then there was a red grit cake which may as well have been made out of cork - dry and completely without flavor. I was expecting something along the lines of a fried polenta - it just wasn't good.
Have had several great meals at Bonterra but last night wasn't on of them.
What a beautiful building! Josh was excellent in all aspects of describing each of the menu items, wine selections, and special items.
Took my bosses here for a business dinner. We were not at all impressed with the service. I couldn't even tell you our server's name, as I'm not sure he even introduced himself. He took a long time to come back to our table for our order, and rushed us through our order.
Positive, the wine list is extensive and the food was very good, but that isn't important if the service is lacking.
Bonterra is always a favorite of ours. Besides the tremendous wine list, the food is always well prepared and presented. One of the best fine dining experiences in Charlotte.
We had great service and the food was delicious! The ambience was very cozy and elegant.
Food was excellent from start to finish. Fried Lobster, She Crab soup and Beet salad were great starters. Filet for me and scallops for my wife were awesome. Soufflé for dessert was great. Our waiter Jeff was very attentive and helpful we really enjoyed him
Scotch egg and charcuterie were amazing as was my short rib in a Cabernet reduction. My daughter ordered a medium well done steak. It first came out medium rare. They graciously took it back and brought it out again in 5 minutes. The outside was done but not the inside. Since I had my food, I had shared with my daughter and we were both happy. They removed the steak from the bill without us asking. I believe that if we order another medium well done steak here we will order it butterflied.
This was our first time at Bonterra and it will not be the last. Our waiter, Dave, was very attentive and made great recommendations! The owner, JD, even came over and thanked us for coming in. I had the lobster tail and even though it was slightly over cooked it was still very tasty. Bonterra has a very extensive wine selection and the menu items come from local farms. The menu offers salmon, filet migno and a pork entree along with several other dishes. The appetizer menu offers Octopus, wagyu beef and a very tasty she crab soup.
Bonterra is a reliable spot for a great meal. The service was excellent and the food expertly prepared. We will definitely return.
My family dined at Bonterra for my mom's birthday. The building is beautifully done. Our food was amazing! The charcuterie is locally sourced and fabulous, the house made pickles and pate were a hit with the whole table.
Our entrees came in a timely manner, the filet, short rib, lobster tail, and scallops were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented.
The house made breads and scratch made desserts were worth every delicious calorie!
Our server, Josh, went above and beyond giving our party impeccable service. He was friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable.
We will return in the very near future.
All of the food tasted weird. I didn’t like any of it.
My wife and I went for valentine's night. This was our first time at this restaurant and really looked forward to it. Since it was a special event night they did not have the regular menu but the food and service was good considering how packed they were. They have a great wine list and nice looking menu. We plan to go back and try them on a regular night.
Bonterra did not meet our expectations. Reviews I've read were glowing; the chef is touted as one of the best in Charlotte. However, the food had no flavor, was served lukewarm, and in some cases, not prepared well. Their signature dish, fried lobster, was over-pankoed and tough.
Very nice and our server David was outstanding. We are vegan and we hoping for more options but overall we had a nice evening and felt very welcome.
Fantastic as always! The food was cooked to perfection, service was outstanding and they have a great atmosphere! We took some friends from out of town there for dinner and they were very impressed with Bonterra’s.
As we were pressed for time, we just grabbed a table in the bar area and had some appetizers and fabulous wine. Their wine list did not disappoint, nor did the grilled octopus. It’s quickly turning into our pre-concert dinner spot thanks to their wine selection and the convenient location to downtown Charlotte.
Bomterra is the perfect spot to impress your date. It is a great spot for conversation as the servers do not rush you at all. All the servers are able to make great recommendations and the food and ambiance are wonderful.
Good wine list. All three main courses we ordered were well prepared and delivered hot
The end of Charlotte Restaurant Week! NY Strip, Duck 2 Ways, Chocolate Ganache Cake, and Cheesecake. The restaurant was lovely, a converted church! Great service overall and amazing wine selection.
As always a great, no outstanding meal and wine pairing. Not sure what was with the LED light replacement in the chandelier however LED lights are far from a cozy and warm atmosphere. It did indeed detract a bit from the meal, I understand that there is cost savings as well as a longevity benefit from these lights however very distracting. The only complaint I can think of. Food, wine and company was awesome as usual! We will be back!!
