We had not been to Bonterra in years and now realize that we have been missing out! The setting is just as impressive as I remembered, and the food and service just as good. The fried lobster tail and charcuterie board were delicious and fun to share, and the scallops were the best I’ve had in Charlotte. The extensive wine by the glass list is reason enough to go, although we were disappointed that our white wines were quite warm. A minor inconvenience to a thoroughly memorable evening.
We were stunned to discover (after being seated with our guests) that New Year's Eve was $75 prix fixe. That was not noted on the internet nor on their website. Actually, the web menu had individual pricing which we were prepared to spend but Bon Terra apparently chose to stage a restaurant hold-up. They got us this time but in the end we'll get them. We won't be back, nor will our guests who were similarly surprised by the bait and switch on the menu pricing.
Been quite awhile since we’ve been to Bonterra. Service and atmosphere as usual were outstanding. Wasn’t really crazy about the meal. Not that it was bad, just not my ideal. Had the fried lobster tail, as an appetizer it would be amazing. For a meal, It was just too much. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal, although no one was singing praise. For certain pallets, it’s probably very enjoyable.
Went for date night on a Thursday with my wife. Restaurant is in a cool space, and the food was excellent. We had a lovely cheese and charcuterie plate, a good salad, and both of our entrees (chicken and bison short ribs) were delicious. They have an expansive wine list with a large number of wine by the glass options. Only complaints are that our entrees took way too long to come out (we waited almost thirty minutes after we finished our salad), and they do have a parking lot but all the spaces are coned off for valet, so after pulling in we felt pressured to use the valet, and he parked our car right next to the restaurant anyway. Overall, would recommend.
Bonterra never fails to deliver a great combination of style, service, attention to detail and atmosphere. The best wine selection in Charlotte, efficient and knowledgeable bar staff, and a professional wait staff that seems to anticipate your needs long before you consciously realize they are present.
I ordered the spare ribs. For $27 I received one spare rib, two Brussels sprouts cut in half and 3 soggy cheese curds. This meal was not worth the amount they charged. I was not happy with this experience. We used to come here routinely but I won't be coming back.
I had a surprise 70th birthday party for my significant other with 10 friends and family in attendance. The front staff worked with me to make sure everything was completely ready for the surprise by the time we arrived. Jeff, out server, was excellent and attentive all night. The choice of appetizers, entrees and desserts were varied and appealed to all those in attendance. Everything was superb. I would highly recommend.
The menu did not have a lot of options. It was noisy and not a very quaint environment. It was hard to carry a conversation. There was a large party in the balcony area and they were loud and obnoxious. The group was playing some trivia game that could be heard throughout the restaurant. Some of the trivia topics were offensive.
The restaurant is situated in an old converted Methodist Church. Fairly wide open space w/ an upper level which you can't see clearly from the lower level. Decoration is fairly plain and simple and the noise level from the upper mezzanine can be quite loud. But the food and service is excellent. Certainly worth a visit, but not if you intend to have a quiet romantic type meal.
I finally made it to Bonterra and was not disappointed. The food was excellent and the wine list was quite extensive. Convenient to downtown, so was the perfect spot for a preconcert meal and short Uber ride to the Spectrum Centre. I particularly enjoyed the Wood-fired steak as it was cooked to perfection. It didn't hurt that it was accompanied by a nice Merry Edwards Pinot Noir which was a nice find on the wine list. We will definitely be back and would like to try dinner in the wine cellar some time.
Bread was dry and bland. Mussels in ente had very little flavor; fish was well cooked and moist but bland. Salt helped but that was too little, too late. Soufflé should have taken 15 minutes but took 35. Server was friendly and professional. Appetizer of blackened watermelon and pork belly was okay, but not exciting. Although the parking lot was empty, attendant had to run next door for our car. He stated only VIP's cars were allowed in main lot!
We dont normally write reviews but just had to on this one.... food was delicious, ambiance quaint and cozy in this old church, service excellent never rushed.
Now on to the good part! Porkbelly app was amazing taste of salt and sweet with the grilled watermelon, yes watermelon.
Entrees Scallops and Snapper were on point!
Dessert .... Fried Cheesecake .... probably the best dessert i have ever had. Cooked to perfection and delicious!
We will be back!!
My girlfriend and I were there to celebrate our eighth anniversary. Everything was truly amazing, the charcuterie board is one of the best I've had in Charlotte and the fried lobster tails were great. Our server, Zachary, was a little busy but he still provided outstanding service and was there to answer all of our questions. His recommendation of the cheesecake was the perfect ending to a great meal. Not ridiculously expensive but a tad pricey; however when everything taste so great there are absolutely no reasons to complain. We'll definitely be back!!
