We had a reservation, yet when we arrived the hostess let us know that “she would see what she could do to get us seated”. Once seated we were largely ignored by our server, seemingly because we were younger than the average 60 year old patron. The most redeeming portion of the meal was the build your own charcuterie board. This was good. However the main dishes left much to be desired. I got the ahi tuna and ordered it rare, however it came out well done. My girlfriend ordered the mahi which came out cold. Both dishes were over the top salty and overall underwhelming.
Really good overall, a testament to their tenure. Great food and great service, with an exceptional wine list and specialty drink menu. A little pricing, but worth it large portions of high quality and fresh ingredients. Looking forward to eating here again.
Food, service and atmosphere were wonderful. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Nice to go to a (fairly expensive) restaurant where the food is really excellent and the service is professional, efficient and mercifully unpretentious. That combination in waitstaff is so unusual these days, so I'll expand. First, was a huge plus for me that the waiter did NOT introduce himself - you know, the "Hi, I'm Bill and I'll be taking care of you this evening." He was middle-aged and a real professional, obviously quite experienced and at ease in his role, and thoughtfully competent. For example, he had obviously noted that the California Cab I ordered was the oldest decent vintage on their wine list (2014), because when he brought my selection to the table he also brought a 2007 of the same vineyard, which must have been a left over -- and offered me that one at the same price. Secondly, I'd note that he also asked only one time "How is everything?" versus the typical 2 or 3 interruptions per meal one suffers (as though an adult patron can't be expected to tell the waiter if something is wrong - so they keep asking). Lastly, he did not ask permission to clear our plates when we were obviously finished - he just cleared them. I could go on. And I will go back.
Service good atmosphere awesome
We had an absolutely incredible time
One ordered the halibut had to return it twice. First was overcooked and dry. The second time was raw and cold in the middle. The third time was delivered after everyone else had finished. The fish was presented in pieces and served with the original risotto that was now 20 minutes old and congealed. The 60.00 steak was average at best served with average potatoes. The highlight of the meal was the half off price they gave us on the halibut. So, if you like inflated prices, average food this might be your place
Menu was confusing and expensive. Lack of leadership on the floor was obvious.
Filet was ordered medium rare / it was raw - not edible.
We arrived early for a pre-show dinner. The wait staff were extremely accommodating to the member of our party who is on a very strict (and therefore restrictive) gluten- free diet making several modifications so she could safely enjoy her meal. Service was excellent. Unlike many other restaurants these days that are so loud you cannot hear yourself think, the ambience was very pleasant. Love the artwork on the walls. Food was delicious and perfectly prepared and served. The staff made sure we were able to enjoy our meal and leave on time for the show. We will definitely dine here again.
Food was spot on and service was outstanding. When told they were our of the lobster tail for the Surf & Turf, they offered up to substitute Halibut which was really yummy. Extremely friendly, engaging, fun and professional staff. They all seemed to enjoy what they were doing which is refreshing to experience, especially in this time of understaffed and overworked restaurant environment.
-Food Amazing, fresh, good portions, is worth it the money.
-Great wine selection
-Service very good
Giving 3 starts to ambiance due to the AC, extremely COLD!!!!!! Mentioned several times to the staff, normally my husband will not even notice it.. last night he was freezing ..
Overall -an amazing experience as long as you take a jacket my husband comments are " WAS TOO COLD".
I will recommend YES.. but take a jacket with you.
Amazing! Service was impeccable!
As always, outstanding meal with very good service.
Great resturant. Staff, food, and mood was outstanding.
It was lovely. Great service and the food was outstanding. This place is permanently on our favorites list.
A busy Saturday night. The grouper was excellent, and the steak was a little more med, than med/rare. Otherwise all was good. The lemon soufflé was a wonderful way to end the meal.
The restaurant staff were not wearing masks, which are not mandatory yet, but in most restaurants, staff is wearing due to the increase in Covid numbers. The place was busy with losts of people occupying every space. Just a word of caution for those who don't feel confortable in these situations.
Family was in town so we wanted to go someplace special. We definitely chose the right place. The service was perfect. The food was delicious. Highlights were the fried lobster, the perfectly cooked steaks , and the cucumber martini.
Food and service was amazing. Aubry and Jody know their wine and were on top of everyone's needs. Great Great service.
The food is always amazing.
Always love this place. Great spot to catch up with friends and enjoy a delicious selection of foods and their ample wine list.
This was our first visit to Bonterra and it did not disappoint. Starting with the restaurant and ambience, it is gorgeous. Bonerra is located in an old church and is just SUPER cool. The decor was just enough and the tables and wine bar made for an upscale, but not pretentious, experience.
We started with drinks and a charcuterie board. We chose pepper crusted salami and mustard seed cheddar for the board. Included were a number of extras like fig preserves, house made pickles, candied nuts, artichoke hearts, olives, and a vegetable salsa. It was served with a basket of crostini. We could have honestly made a meal out of this.
For our entrees we had the blackened grouper and orecchiette pasta. Both entrees were delicious. After the charcuterie, we could not finish our plates. The grouper was perfectly blackened with just enough char and crustiness. I liked the pairing with the couscous and salsa. The orecchiette pasta was served al dente and had to be house made. It was substantial and oh so good.
We chose Bonterra to celebrate my wife's birthday, and our server provided a complimentary dessert. We were too stuffed to eat it and chose to bring it home. As of this review, we have not yet eaten it. I'm sure it will not disappoint.
We had a wonderful experience and Bonterra. Our server was professional and had a wonderful personality. She was happy to provide our wine recommendation (it was spot on) and had a thorough knowledge of the menu. I'd love to go back and try the NY strip or crispy duck breast.
The food was such disappointment. Steaks tough, grouper stinky, pork chop tough, Brussels sprouts very plain. Very overpriced
Always delicious and never disappoints.
Always good food and service. Hate losing the scallops off the menu !!
An Amazing Chef Driven restaurant. The Servers and Bartender are a definite asset to the experience. Having a somewhat eclectic menu, I was pleasantly surprised with the combination of flavors in every dish we tried. I will be back. My only ask, add some cheese to the tomato salad…it’s good, that will take it to another level!!!
Outstanding service and food!
Food and Service was outstanding. Don’t go here for a quick meal but food was fantastic and table service was spot on.
It was a nice dinner.
great place for a special night
People always say a place is a hidden gem but this really is. Probably walked by the converted church dozens of times and never knew it was a fantastic restaurant. Arrived a little early so sat at bar and had wonderful service from Melissa. Next time will just sit at bar!!! Maybe on a Wednesday since they have 1/2 price wines. Appetizers look great. Place is known for their fried lobster so of course I had that and my husband had the Kansas ribeye. Everything was fantastic.
Delicious food, stellar service, lovely ambiance, and a complimentary glass of bubbly to celebrate our special occasion! As usual, our dinner at Bonterra was outstanding. We ate the fried lobster bites, magnolia salad, filet, pork, and glazed donuts - thoroughly enjoyed it all.
Great experience overall!
The food and atmosphere was lovely. My waiter was fantastic.
Excellent service. The menu items were diverse. The three we tried (Charcuterie, fish, duck) were all good.
The food was absolutely incredible and worth every penny. The wait staff was very professional and eager to help. The only negative was the wait time between courses. The experience is worth it, but you definitely want to plan for a couple hours for a meal here!
Despite making reservatoins on the restaurant week site, we were told on arrival that they were NOT participating in that event. It was much too late to make reservations elsewhere. My fish was perfect; wife'sduck was not cooked as she asked. Servive was excellent. Very, very noisy.
We really loved the entire experience. I really wish I could remember our server’s name, but he did mention that he just moved there from Texas not to long ago. It was his first night on the floor alone, and he was a great conversationalist. He really made my birthday special. All of the food was great, and the wines by the glass list was extensive. I enjoyed all of the dining experience, I work in a steakhouse and I have high expectations when going to other fine dining establishments. If I ever come back to Charlotte I will make a trip back.
This is a restaurant that seems to want to be grand pseudo fine dining. The wine list has an excellent and extensive selection of wines by the glass which we appreciated. The menu was above average but execution was average. The coq au vin had a brown sauce (instead of a red sauce mainly wine) as we would have expected. My pork was very good but the ahi salad did not match the menu description. Portions were too large and lacked playing finesse. The mussels did not have a cohesive plan but the heirloom tomatoes were great. The table next to us had two mistakes of the four plates they ordered, we had one error out of four. Service was amateur and flippant, interrupting our conversation and too “I’m your friend” style. While not a bad meal, it did not fit decor, price, or expectation. At half the price and half the pompe, I’d be happy.
One salad delivered 10-15 minutes after the others. Also one piece of fish was either bad or not cooked properly as it was tough and not flaky. Inedible.
