We used to go to Bonnie Ruth's all the time as the ambiance, food, and service were always great. It was the place we could count on to take guests and friends for a sumptuous meal delivered with great service! Sadly, this last time every element of our dining experience was poor. We ordered a caesar salad (really small for $10!), a pizza ( boring sauce), and prime rib sandwich (a LOT of bread, very little prime rib that was so overcooked it was leathery, all smothered in a bland sauce). This is NOT the Bonnie Ruth's we used to love. They also seem to have dropped the Croque Monsieur & Croque Madame from the menu -- those were both great sandwiches they always executed perfectly! As for the ambiance, The restaurant is now divided in to rooms. It used to be open and airy. Not anymore! On to service...it was poor. Our waitress had the entire front room -- 8-10 tables of 4. Granted, this is a lot of tables for one person, but she wasn't cut out for this job. She never refilled our drinks, didn't ask us if we needed anything else, and we honestly think she was relieved when we decided against dessert! All this time, the host stood at the host stand without lending a hand to take care of customers. He wasn't that busy seating people and could easily have helped our waitress take care of us and all the other customers in our room while still keeping an eye out for newcomers. It was hard to watch him standing there playing with his phone while I needed my drink refilled. Definitely not the service we're used to at this restaurant. It's sad to see this as this place used to be a real gem in our neighborhood. Hope the owner gets her mojo back! The pommel frites (fries) are still good though!
Been to Bonnie Ruth’s probably 20 times in seven years. Food is always fantastic. This last time the service was not good at all. Hopefully it was just an individual having a bad night.
Good food & service. We like this place!
Normally I love this restaurant. This visit we waited by the host stand for 7 min without being greeted or even seated for 10 min, and we had a reservation. Food wasn't as fresh tasting as it normally is.
Sad. Hope my brunch place isn't going south.
Food is delicious. The cook on my wife’s steak was perfect.
We celebrated our 14th Anniversary. The food is always great and the service impeccable. I had my usual Chicken Pillard and my husband had spaghetti bolangese. The carrot cake is to die for. One of my favorite spots!
Easter Buffet was amazing, such a great variety of food. The quality of food and service was top notch, It was worth every penny.
I used to live within 15 minutes of Bonnie Ruth's and now I venture out for a good hour to get there. Amazing to me, is that they are known for having the best deserts in the area and yet I ordered a Oscar fillet (I'm a Bob's guy) and was genuinely impressed and delighted to find the steak was a great cut, with excellent flavor cooked exactly how I asked. My wife ordered a Pork Chop (picture included) which was also excellent. To top off the entire experience, we ordered the Red Velvet cake which I did not share... This is by far the best Red Velvet cake I've had since my last visit to Bonnie Ruth's! Keep up the good work Buster!
Enjoyed our food and "Happy Hour." Nice casual neighborhood restaurant when you want a good meal with a variety of choices. Love those desserts.... One of our guests had the porkchop and said it was very tough. I loved my chicken Will definitely be back
Menu selection is great. Favorite lunch gathering place.
Great service. Terry was a great server. Our first visit was a good experience. Will be back to try more. Excellent cocktail menu. I’d like to work my way down the martini menu. .
Service let a lot to desire, food is overpriced and nothing special.
Music was a bit too loud. Waiter and Kitchen were excellent in accommodating a couple of special food requests and following through. Food was very good!
Nice waiter took good care of our needs; celebrated wife’s birthday; older kids enjoyed escargots; good French experience
We made a reservation to dine at BR for our parent’s anniversary. As a party of 6, we walked into a restaurant that was basically empty, except for the bar and people dining on the patio. Despite an empty seating area and having made a reservation, we were taken to a table in the back, in between the bathrooms and the kitchen service entrance. The table was set for 5. They added a place setting, but it feels that knowing that a party of 6 was arriving would help them have the table for 6 prepared. We indicated on our reservation that we were celebrating our parent’s 49th wedding anniversary, yet there was no mention of their anniversary and nothing “special” to note. The waitstaff was very kind, but our hors d’oeuvres plate stayed on our table, empty until the end of the meal. As we had six people dining, there would have been better space and a nicer dining experience if the used dishes were removed before the main course arrived. This was not our first time dining at BR, otherwise we would surely never return. The food was well prepared and in the past we have enjoyed meals and holiday brunch at BR. As it was this time, we felt like tonight was a miss overall and left us wishing we had made a different decision as to where to celebrate for our special occasion.
Overall it was very good. Did not like the type of music or the volume it was being played. Conversation was difficult.
Food was very diverse giving several great options without being overwhelming. Our both entrees were GREAT. More bottle wine diversity would be something I would like to see.
We will definitely be back.
We stood in the lobby for several minutes before a hostess appeared. She seemed surprised to see us and immediately took us to a table in their very loud bar. My husband asked her to move us and we were seated in the dining room. The escargot was great but my husband’s pasta on his entree was very over cooked and gummy. My salad was nice and not overdressed. I would not say it was horrible but we will not be back. The chaos was a bit much for us.
Arrived for a get together with friends. Enjoy this spot! Had an unpleasant experience initially with an impatience and abrupt waitress who, when attempting to let her know she was coming across rude, cut me off and offered to get the manager. The manager was great! We had decided anyway to move outside where there was live music and great weather. The nights prior had been extremely cold. She promptly moved us all outside and provided a new waitress that was very friendly and relaxed. My bf and I came in from out of town and this was all about great food and great friends. Enjoyed the music and the ambiance out on the patio!
I took my boyfriend to Bonnie Ruth's for Valentines Day - they had a great menu and I had been wanting to try the restaurant.
It did take a while to get seated (although we arrived about 10 minutes early for our reservation, but we sat at the bar and had a drink).
Once we were seated the waiter appeared once to see if we were ready to order, however we were mid-conversation and had not looked at the menu and already had full drinks we brought from the bar. That was the last we saw of him for about 30 minutes and we made a point to know everything we wanted in case he showed back up so we could order promptly this time.
After that 30 minutes had passed and we had not received any food, one of the managers came over and asked how we were doing and we must have looked anxious because she quickly caught on to the fact that we were not having the most pleasant time there - we had not had an order taken for our appetizer, and the amuse bouche and glasses of champagne offered with the VDay menu was never delivered... she was very quick to make corrective actions and throughout the rest of the meal both her and her co-manager checked in with us regularly to make sure everything was going smoothly. They were even kind enough to comp some of our earlier drinks.
I definitely understand when restaurants and retail locations get behind during crazy occasions and greatly appreciate (and will overlook those lapses) when someone goes above and beyond to take corrective actions to make sure the visit was memorable... and it definitely was! I'm glad we chose Bonnie Ruth's and I will definitely be visiting again as the food, drinks, and environment were all great!
Good food and service. Musician excellent!!!
This was a Valentine’s day date. There was a limited menu so it was a bit surprising how slow the service was. The champagne toast arrived in dirty glasses but this was addressed by the waitress with appropriate apologies. Business was brisk but there there was never more than a few people waiting to be seated and they didn’t wait long ( our table was in eyeshot if the door). Yet the service was painfully slow throughout the entire nite. Our reservation was at seven and we weren’t done until after nine. To be clear, we were not in a hurry but two hours and twenty minutes is a bit long for dinner (to my thinking anyway).
The food was outstanding and, not withstanding the pace, the service was excellent. I highly recommend the restaurant.
Went for Valentine's day dinner and wasn't aware of the fixed menue. We had an 11 year old with us and she wouldn't eat anything on the fixed menu. We were going to leave but manager on the fly agreed to do a pizza with dessert - meal was great!
The place in DFW for mussels and french fries. It’s straight out of a Parisien bistro.
This restaurant is just what the name says: a neighborhood bistro. It's great for dinner for two, with friends, or family. The good is delicious, never had a bad meal. Love the Steak Frites (their fries are so good!), it comes with a small portion of salad. I also like that everything is served on one plate, the way I eat at home. This is like eating at home without the mess, and you don't have to clean up. Pepper crusted filet is wonderful (I like it with their potato celeriac, perfect pairing); pork chop, chicken paillard, spaghetti Bolognese, spicy shrimp pasta, all great. Penne pesto and pear and goat cheese salad are also not to be missed. And save room for dessert because their cakes are the best thing this side of gramma's. Pizza, burgers, ham and cheddar sandwich, the best French onion soup: this is also a great stop for lunch. Then, of course, there is breakfast and brunch, and mimosas! When the weather is nice, Bonnie Ruth's has THE BEST patio in Frisco. Our favorite restaurant, by far.
Chicken pillars one of my favorites and BR is the only place my husband will order duck...he loves it. Service was outstanding.
My wife and I started a fun weekend by having dinner here. The service was great from beginning to end. I had the spaghetti bolognese and my wife enjoyed the pan sautéed Alaskan salmon. They were great dishes in preparation for what the restaurant is really known for - desert. The deserts come in large sizes and are delicious. You will not leave hungry.
Food was very good, but service was very slow. Also had a very loud table next to us. We go here a lot, but this was not our best experience.
Waited at reception for almost 10 minutes before being greeted and seated. Language challenges with the wait staff. Some items we ordered were delivered in wrong sequence or forgotten entirely. When we did get food, it wasn’t horrible, but the overall experience wasn’t positive. Won’t return.
Nice place. European flavor. The patio looks fantastic, can’t wait to give it a try!
Great food and service!
With varied needs, Bonnie Ruth
fulfilled all of them. Fish, Chicken, steak and great
cocktails. Great service and moderately priced. Would
Great lunch and service!
Oscar Benedict was very good but could have used more lump crabmeat. The service and price was good but the place itself was a little dark and a bit outdated for my liking and experience. They sat us next to the restroom which let out an awful odor every time someone went in and out. Wasn’t bad just good but not good enough for me to go back. One and done for me.
I made a reservation and when I got there the restaurant was closed
Great night food was yummy!
sorely disappointed with this particular experience.
On this day was hoping to enjoy a late birthday arrival at 9:30 pm
Made my reservation and it was accepted for dinner. Arrived and was told the kitchen was closed. Proceeded to tell the server that my reservation was accepted for 9:30 through open table and that open table even had a 9:45 available. He went to the kitchen and some one else came with more authority came out was told again the kitchen was closed and could not be served .
To my embarrassment and with a stare that read like “you are here late and you have got to leave ,we are closed “
And not even offered any other service like the bar over there is open. As I could tell by the 3 people being served and chatting friendly with the bar tender.
I thought can we have a slice of cake and perhaps coffee?
Cake and fresh coffee ($15)
was great however why wasn’t it offered first?
Why are apologies only good for others so it doesn’t happen again? Thank you, to both open table and Bonnie ruth.
I will look for a coupon somewhere so maybe my apology will be more like money where your mouth is. 🎄merry Christmas
This was our second time to have brunch here. The food was delicious and if you like eggs Benedict be sure to ask your server for some. They are made to order and very good. French toast is awesome as well as the chicken. They know how to do desserts also
It was my boyfriend’s birthday and we enjoyed every bite from the buffet. Our waitress was outstanding and very attentive. Thank you so much for such a pleasant experience.
I'm sorry but this Bonnie Ruth's has become an outdated replica of the past .It reminded me of a place that my grandparents took me to in the 60s .The buffet food was ok even though they were slow to replenish some items ,but the atmosphere was like the family get together after a funeral .Even the staff walked around with a zoned out look on their faces wishing for closing time .There was no one smiling or interested in carrying on a conversation, just looks of despair. Maybe the place is livelier on weekend nights but if that is not the case I don't see much of a future for them . We made our Thanksgiving reservations there because we wanted to stay close to home. Our Reservations were made 3 weeks early and in that time we received four calls from Tiffany requesting that we confirm and reconfirm. She even asked us to put down a deposit which we didn't do. We found this odd because when we arrived at 6pm there was a total of 12 customers in the restaurant .We were led to believe that the deposit was necessary to hold a table because of the high demand . I hope that lessons were learned that night from everyone involved .I know that they were on our end .
Very disappointed to arrive early with reservations to be seated in the bar area. Couldn’t even have a conversation with my husband without hearing everyone around us. I’m a small person and had to walk into my seat sideways. Way too expensive for a buffet, no table cloths, never again. I expected much better!
