The dinner was outstanding! Had the filet mignon which was delicious, cooked perfectly and so tender. Definitely enjoy this restaurant. It is a gem!
This a great neighborhood restaurant with delicious food. It was Hayden's first night as a server and he did a terrific job. The Chef/Owner is hard working and appreciative of you dining there.
Exceptional as always. It is our go to restaurant for a date. The food is top notch, cozy and intimate atmosphere and the chef always has little attentions for us. Highly recommend it.
As always, delicious food and great service. The sea bass and salmon were perfect, vegetables perfectly cooked. Assi and his team make sure you have a super evening. Thanks!
What wasn’t our favorites
Steak and fries, steak below avg
Chesse and honey appetitizer
Rind was to much and the cheese too runny
Onion soup flavor was good cheese over melted and very stringy
Filet Mignon cooked prefect
But the bearnaise was over cooked or left standing too long
Maybe it should be served on the side
Finally salad dressing was barely noticeable
So glad we have this neighborhood BYO close by. My partner's filet and my duck breast were both very good. The salad with pear and bleu cheese was also delish as was the creme brulee-true creme brulee. I'm always happy when I find a good one. The staff and chef were all very nice and accommodating. We will be going back!
French food by a French chef. All organic ingredients. True hidden gem that I hope will find greater support. Would definitely revisit!
The menu was somewhat abbreviated from that shown on its website. The wait for food was enormous (kitchen, not waiter problem). The food was poor. My wife ordered rare duck and received overcooked/dried out duck. My "Le Mer" had only a small amount ofseafood
This is truly a hidden gem in Pennington. Food is exceptional!
Even the bread was extraordinarily good and everything else was excellent. The atmosphere approached that of a typical French hotel de la gare.
Assi and Rita are the best. Our meal was wonderful: Sea Bass, Brussel Sprouts, carrots, delicious. Salmon also a big hit. Thanks for such an enjoyable time and terrific dinner!
Terrific food and service. Asi and Rita provide a lovely atmosphere for enjoying delicious food. Mushroom bisque, pork chops, steak frites all delightful!
This was the first foray for all four of us into indoor dining since the pandemic started, so we were a bit nervous. But we needn't have been. The tables were really far from each other, and the window next to our table was open slightly, which we were glad of.
Service was prompt, and the server did not hover. She was attentive but efficient and left us "alone to talk," which is exactly what diners want during a pandemic.
The chef is French, I believe, and the cuisine is definitely French. Everyone's entree was beautifully prepared: my duck was tender but crispy and the accompaniments were tasty. The beet salad I ordered could easily have been shared by all four of us. As it was, I shared it with one other person, and it was so fresh and delicious that we finished the whole thing between us.
We also shared a chocolate marquise for dessert--dense and flavorful, with lots of sweet and bittersweet nuances.
It feels like the chef customs each dish for each guest. While it may not be true, it's nice to leave the restaurant feeling that way.
Second time for my wife and I. It was fabulous again with excellent food and outstanding service. We had a great chat with the chef who gave us a special treat. Highly recommend.
The food was exceptional and the waitress was so nice and accommodating. Very intimate atmosphere and cute place.
Overall it was an underwhelming experience. The onion soup lacked flavor. The main courses were good. They didn’t have much left in the way of dessert.
From a social distancing experience it was good as tables were spread apart and a bottle of hand sanitizer was on each table.
I hope after the pandemic this local restaurant can revive itself
My husband my hubby had magret de canard (duck); I had the fruit de mer (seafood pasta). Both entrees were cooked to perfection! The appetizer escargots bourguignon was full of flavor. Service was great! We talked to the chef briefly, nice man!! Quaint, quiet little place; we will be back!
Wife and I enjoyed two exceptional dinners from a very exceptional chef and a very exceptional waitress. Sweet little restaurant, comfortable seating, covid safe. Have reservations for another visit. Be sure to visit their well stocked gourmet showroom and pick up some of the best pasta and olive oils. BYOB.
Dinner date with my husband at this quaint restaurant that has been retrofitted for Covid purposes. Limited seating so best to have reservations. Excellent food, great service, pleasant staff...wonderful dining experience! Bonne Assiette is also a BYOB restaurant.
I been here a handful of times and each time it gets better. A gem in Pennington.
The place looks lovely but that’s it. The service was slow & we had to ask a couple times to get what we needed. The meal presentation was nice but only one meal out of 4 was hot- the other 3 just warm. I ordered the filet & the bearnaise sauce had congealed. The scallops were chewy & old. The chicken dish was unremarkable. The chef was very nice & gave us a $50 gift card as an apology. The restaurant only had a few patrons, so there was no excuse for our food not to be hot & the slow service
We spent our Valentines dinner for the very first time and unfortunately it will be the very last time, even though the food was very good the service was virtually non existent.
We had to wait for our table and when we were seated it was right next to the service station and we asked to change it. They obliged.
The only waitress in the entire restaurant came over after we sat for approx 10 min. She said she would be right back and then waited on a table that came in about 15 min after us. Finally she took our order and then waited again for the appetizers. After there 2 hours. The desserts came and no one asked us if we wanted coffee. We had to open our own bottle of wine. I had a $10 discount which I told them initially and she couldn’t figure out how to take off the discount; meanwhile another table was complained about the service. I couldn’t wait any longer, so after I wrote a check for the total we left!
Why wasn’t there other wait staff in a crowded holiday occasion?
Poorly managed !!
Gordon Ramsey; they need your help!!
The food was excellently prepared and delicious. We were there on Valentine's and the portions were very generous. Highly recommend but ask to be seated in the upper level (the downstairs level was chilly).
A lovely, lovey evening once again. A shining star in the Pennington area.
A little gem of a restaurant with great food, nice ambiance and wonderful service from the time you walk in you feel sincerely welcome. Will definitely return.
Wonderful authentic French Cuisine. Staff is so pleasant. Reasonably priced. Wonderful menu and specials. Quite eclectic atmosphere. BYOB, which we like. A definite fabulous French to add to your list. Enjoy as we regularly do!
Dessert excellent. Entrees a little salty.
Delightful sounding menus, would like to try more. Salad should serve dressing on the side.
Quiet and intimate, a little expensive but large portions. Dinners were well executed. The fish was cooked perfectly. Byob
This place is truly a hidden gem. The food is AMAZING....the muscles appetizer is a must have. My family has eaten here several times and out of the 20+ dishes, they were all consistently good. The staff is so hospitable, you feel like you are dining at someone’s house. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to go back!
Second 5 star meal at this priceless gem in Pennington NJ. A birthday celebration for 8 enhanced by the wonderfully prepared meals and gracious service. Best BYOB in the tri-state area.
I tried the new recipe, poulet à la crème moutarde, using smoked chicken breast. The smokiness is quite pronounced, but I thought it good. I just thought the heaviness of the sauce a bit much. As for starters, the tartare de saumon is an outstanding preparation.
Everything was fantastic! Definitely recommend trying!
Supeb French food
Perfection in Pennington. It was a most pleasant surprise and will be repeated often. It is BYOB so be prepared.
Our son and his wife were visiting from Mass. and he had a craving for escargot. I knew of some restaurants that served snails, but not at lunch. So a quick Google/Open Table search for French restaurants near me came up with Bonne Assiette and not only did the online menu list escargot, but it listed two different snail dishes. What a find. Assiette is a cute little French restaurant. It was quiet at lunch, but the service was amusing and attentive, and the food was terrific. I definitely recommend it for lunch, and based on the dinner menu, for an evening meal as well.
We went to Bonne Assiette with our young child. We grabbed an early resy to not disturb other patrons. Despite a quiet atmosphere, wait staff was considerate of our family dining.
Food was delicious. Service attentive. Very rustic cuisine: duck, escargot, heirloom carrots, stinky cheese. Delicious. I would go back with friends and family or recommend to others.
Absolutely fabulous scallops on a bed of spinach. Piping hot, as it should be— and with a completely gluten-free sauce. Sooo delicious!
This was our second time visiting and this restaurant does not disappoint. It's a charming little out of the way place- in looks a bit more like a cafe or bistro - in menu, closer to "fine dining" My husband had the Moules Frites and both the mussels and fries were absolutely delicious. Definitely the best he's ever had. Also tried the duck which was wonderful. I had the Crevettes Monaco. (shrimp, mushrooms, gnocchi in a creme sauce.) It was fantastic!
We enjoyed our lunch very much. Portions were large and we both took half home. The dessert was delicious!
Excellent food, had the duck, scallops, escargot, french onion soup and beets! All delicious, service was excellent as well. We will go back!
