Bonicelli Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Great, seasonal food with smaller portions and items that work for sharing. As someone with a smaller appetite who loves food, it's a perfect fit for me, with room left over for a little bit of dessert. Nice wine list. And, it's quiet enough for conversation, something that you don't always get these days in downtown hot spots. Escape the crowds downtown and drive a few minutes down Central NE and find a great spot.
Very nice small restaurant with interesting menu, Italian and fusion, with small plates. Very nice wine list, all wines by the glass or bottle, with a well organized listing by characteristics of the wines. Servers were well-informed, (the menu changes frequently). Squash ravioli was great!
This restaurant is fabulous! Great food, excellent service and a cozy, feel good atmosphere. The chef and staff make it feel like you’re their favorite people from the time you walk in until you walk out. Creative, tasty food and drink. You should eat here!
We were able to try 7 dishes with the group I was with and they were all fabulous. The squash ravioli was a standout dish for me! The owner is very friendly and her pasta is the most traditional Italian pasta I've had yet in the cities.
My husband and I recently dined at Bonicelli for my 33rd birthday. He had made a reservation, which I would recommend as there are about ten tables in the place. The ambiance was quiet and inviting. Our table for two was by the window, and the only oddity was that the table was quite long--so we felt very far away from each other.
Our server was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the food options. Being 8 months pregnant kept me from experiencing her wine aptitude---next time! We ordered five plates to share, and allowed her to determine the order in which they would arrive:
Squash and Amaretti Ravioli - DELICIOUS, would have loved twice as many pillows on the plate
Orlando's Famous Meatball - Excellent, the thick spaghetti-like Bucatini was a nice compliment
Thai Glass Noodle Salad with Chicken - Wonderful, a pause between heartier plates--the flavors were enthusiastic and clean
Balsamic Braised Beef - Substantial! The tangy horseradish mashed potatoes offset the rich beef perfectly
We finished with the pizza (we decided to order this instead of dessert), which I can't find on the website menu---but basically it was amazing fresh vegetables and cheese on top of a deep-fried dough. Roman street food according to our server. It was delightful.
Overall, it was a fantastic birthday dinner; pleasant service experience; and reasonably priced for the excellent quality of food. We will be back!
Menu descriptions are spot on in terms of flavor profile, which is itself note worthy, but the food exceeded that and thus my expectations. Good wine selection. I really enjoyed the Albariño (to start with crab cakes, hummus, olives and killer fried pita bread). Then the chenin blanc (twice!) with the pasta and lemon sauce with basil and an ... eggplant thingy. A pinot noir with the ribs (these ribs had a well balanced, understated south east asian thing going on, fall off the bone tender, but crispy in all the right spots) and I was in full gear. After that I have little recollection. I felt like a kid in a candy shop. Very nice. Service was on top of everything and helpful. Space is kinda small and noisy. Some would say lively. And I would agree. Still intimate though. Nice patio. Especially considering its location on busy Central ave. Emphasis on small plates. The pizza was in tune with the procession of dishes and lively. Propelling me onwards. Alas no room for dessert however. My bad. Great for a date, a night out with out of town guests or on pay day.
I don't think I would eat here again even if the food was free. We ordered several small plates and not only were none of them remarkable, they were bland and served barely warm. The soup was under-seasoned, there was so much horseradish in the mashed potatoes to even eat, and the and the braised beef was not served hot. We threw away more food than we were able to eat. There are many places in the immediate area that serve much higher quality food.
tried several things- crabcakes were excellent, mushroom soup was bland and served too cool.
Very disappointed in meatball- large but mushy- although the small portion of pasta and sauce were excellent. Chocolate cake was fantastic. Would go again to try other items
We were very impressed with the wonderful food! Creative, delicious, locally sourced and seasonal choices, beautifully presented. Our group opted for many small plates and a couple of the large plates to share. Everything was absolutely fresh and delicious. Highly recommend this spot.
Really wanted to like this restaurant, but the food is just not that good for the price. Service was excellent. The tuna on the salad nicoise was bone dry; the meatball and bucatini was fairly tasteless; and the pizza had a lot of stuff on it but not much flavor. Sorry.
The salad with cucumber and edamame with wasabi vinaigrette was definitely one I could get addicted to! The lemon pasta was also delicious but don't try to add chicken to it (it came on the side shredded and cold, not as a grilled chicken breast). Small plates are perfect for being able to taste and share. Many items looked great so I'm looking forward to returning to try more.
Really liked the quality of food, very tasty. Although I wished they had more protein options...just a bit limited in that department. Would have like to a pork, chicken or fish that would have been a full entree. Waitress was amazing. Wine was fairly priced. Fairly nice atmosphere.
