Everything was excellent. The only gripe I have is I made a reservation online a week in advance. The reservation was for 7:00 PM. I checked in at 6:45 and sat at the bar waiting to have my name called.
My name was never called. I noticed open tables so I checked back in at 7:15 and they said they could seat us. It seemed that the reservation was lost, or overlooked entirely.
We had 4 adults and 3 kids aged 11, 9, and 4, in our party. Our waiter was really good with the kids. He included them in conversations and definitely made them feel important. The food was great! We all were very pleased with our selections. This was not our first experience dining at this restaurant and we will return!!
The meal was a disappointment overall. There were only two choices for an entrée. We had to ask for bread, numerous times, the salad was pitiful, the meal looked like a TV dinner and the pie was barely adequate. A buffet would have been a better value with better options. The servers were slow, most likely understaffed. The greeters and other staff were more interested in chatting with each other than helping. We will not return for another holiday.
Service was great! Our app choices of guacamole with chips was nicely done. Also the wontons were tasty. BBQ ribs were spicy sweet and a large portion. Garlic mashed potatoes as a side was very tasty, but they were lukewarm, the cold butter took a long time to melt on them. Green beans as a side were prepared perfectly! The wine list is very uninspired. The two choices that we thought were acceptable were unavailable-sold out. Our server did try to make it right and offered a couple options not on the wine list. We selected one and it was drinkable. Granted, our group knows what we like in a wine and some would consider us picky. Bonfire has wine many people would like, but for those who are more particular, bring your own bottle. Cork fee is $15 (server unsure).
I made a reservation on line and requested the fireplace table for a first date that I wanted to be romantic. My date was late because he came from Stillwater, but everyone was so nice to make me comfortable while I was waiting. I didn’t want to sit at the table alone, but they held the table for us. They made our first date very memorable.
First time at this chain, we were visiting from out of town for the weekend.
Service from the host to the waiting staff was top notch. Quick to be seated (even though it was busy), quick service from the waitress, timely food. The menu looked great (quite a few things we both wanted to try) so whoever created it did a great job of setting it up. Overall, I got the feeling that the administrative part of this restaurant could not have been better!
BUT - any restaurant review has to be mostly about the quality of the food, and this fell way short. My ribs weren't cold, but they were barely luke warm and overcooked, both of my sides (mashed potatoes and cheesy pasta) were also at that same temperature. The food was delivered quickly too, so it wasn't like someone forgot it under a heat lamp or on a counter, or it was waiting for a different part of the meal to finish before serving. We were also there at 7 PM with a full restaurant, so we weren't getting after hours leftovers either. Luke warm food didn't make sense. Without prompting, I asked my wife how her food was and she said the EXACT same thing, so we think the food could have been good if it was served at the correct temperature.
Because of the quality service and the quality of menu of items we would have liked to have tried, we would give this place another try, but if the quality of the food is the same again then it doesn't pay to come back after that.
I was reminded why we haven’t been to Bonfire in a while. Spend a lot of money for mediocre food and service. I had the Jambalaya that came out luke warm. Must have been sitting there for a bit while the chimichanga and 1/4 chicken were being prepared. And... who keeps the tails on the shrimp in jambalaya? Never seen that before and I get jambalaya a lot. Also, not very flavorful. Whatever that red sauce was it was dreadful. On the good side, my wife said the 1/4 chicken was good. It was moist and flavorful.
I should have known it wasn’t going to be great when 10 min after ordering our first drinks the waitress comes over and says it is taking a while because they don’t have any wine glasses! Seriously?! They eventually found one. Took a long time to get food. We were there an hour+ before we had food. I noticed some tables around us were taking a while to get food also.
Waitress was pleasant and made sure our drinks were filled.
The food was great but the service seemed a bit slow to get our food--however, it was very busy on a Friday night and it seemed like they were short on help. So glad I made a reservation and walked right through the crowd to a table! Can always count on Bonfire to have excellent food especially those Asian green beans, which are to die for. They are always the first thing gone on my plate!
In spite of making reservations, they weren't ready for us. We had to wait for them to put tables together and set out cutlery etc. Our waitress was attentive and food was only so so. Restaurant seems to be declining. Needs a refurbished menu. I had the lettuce wraps and they were good.
Our waitress was the best part of this experience. The hostess - not so much. I had reservations for two for 6:30 and when I walked in, there was nobody at the hostess station. They were moderately busy, so I cut them a little slack. But I stood there for a full five minutes before the hostess finally showed up. The first thing I noticed about here was that she was chewing gum and when she smiled, the gum was featured prominently. I don't know what it is about chewing gum as a hostess or waiter/waitress that strikes me as uncouth, but it does.
The beer selection was fine for me, but my date preferred a flavored beer, such as Bud Light Lime. They didn't have it, which I thought was a bit odd. In fact, they didn't have any flavored beer, which I thought was very odd. In the end, my date settled for a Stella Artois Cidre, which she found to be very good.
The food was good, but nothing special.
As we were leaving, I saw the hostess was manning the pull-tab booth, busily looking through her cell phone and ignoring everything around her. Perhaps that is why I wasn't noticed for a full five minutes when I walked in at the beginning of the evening. I would recommend that cell phones be banned in the service industry to improve service. The waiters, waitresses, hosts, hostesses, bartenders, and cooks can leave the cell phones in their cars at the beginning of their shifts. Every business has a main phone number, and any relative with an emergency can call that number and ask for the individual they need to speak to if it is a true emergency.
Oh, and skip the gum in favor of a mint if you're worried about your breath.
We chose this restaurant because of the variety on the menu. Of the 4 entrees with steak, only one of the steaks was cooked to the proper Medium Rare the others were overcooked. One of the overcooked steaks was sent back it was replaced and the second time was cooked properly, but it took a very long time for a Medium Rare steak on a not busy Thursday evening. Waitress handled the situation well, but wasn't all that attentive and should have been removing empty glasses and cups throughout the evening. By the time we left I had no less than 6 pieces of glassware in front of me (2 cocktails, a water and 3 coffee mugs.)
We ordered a flatbread pizza and it had the wrong ingredients on it
The fish and chips were over cooked and dry
We had to ask for tartar sauce for the fish sandwich and fish and chips
The fish tacos did not come with the sauce that is supposed to be on them
We had ice tea and our server refilled our glasses with no ice so it was warm so we had to ask for ice
Our server was very nice but not very good. She even forgot to get an order from one of the people in our party
Horrible, waste of money, and a father's day ruined. I was not notified this would be buffet only when I made the reservation. We found out after we were seated. The waitress assured us it was a very good buffet. She was wrong. The buffet was dirty, many items were missing, and there was no one carving any of the meat - I saw one person trying to tear off a chicken leg from a whole chicken with her bare hands. Gross. The food that was there was just as gross, not fresh at all. Time to find a new place, not just for special occasions but for our go-to place for family meals out. Used to be nice until it was recently sold and came under new management. All around yuck.
We went there for father's day brunch. They had advertised made-to- order Eggs Benedict which was the reason we picked Bonfire. When we got into line there was no eggs benedict. We asked the wait staff and they said they were not serving it. Very disappointing!! The line to get food was very long. When we finally got to the food they were out of the beef brisket and turkey. We had to ask them to bring more and wait an additional 5 minutes. When we got the brisket it was COLD. The rest of the food was mediocre. Nothing stood out. Even the desserts were ho-hum. No fruit in the buffet at all. We only went through the line once. Nothing to go back for. Would not return to the restaurant at any price.
We typically enjoy food here, but the Father's Day Brunch was very underwhelming. Presentation was very messy, food was very mediocre. You couldn't order anything, the only thing available was the buffet and they only had one line set up. You had to wait in a fairly long line to get food. Will not be ever doing one of their buffets again.
Father's Day brunch was quite small. Menu on web site included made to order eggs Benedict but was not offered. Ask server about it and she just said she would let corporate know. ( whom she said was there) never heard anything else. Never got refills on beverages.
Mother's Day brunch was great and diner was great but this buffet was very poor!
We had a party of 7 at Noon. The restaurant wasn't full. Our food took an extra long time. We ordered almost immediately after we got there. The server was attentive on drinks, but then didn't remember to bring us a kids menu. We asked for the bill as soon as the last person was done eating as we were going to be late for a matinee downtown Minneapolis. We left there at 1:15 rushing. We've had good experiences at other Bonfires so this might have abnormal.
