'The Upstairs' is advertised as the more pricey and intimate venue, perfect for foodies who wish to be social and mannerly. Yet it is void of any noise absorbing amenities. So when seats are filled on a busy Friday early evening, the room gets crazy noisy. Blared music doesn't add ambiance, but simply ramps up the noise level since people then need to shout not only above the people chatter but also the music. The food is quite tasty and impeccably prepared. But at $65 per person, I wish to enjoy more the social side of the dining experience. Our party of four $250 total bill was for 3 beers, 3 wines, 3 appetizers, 3 entré's, and 2 desserts. It would have been paid more happily if only a worthy social dining experience had been delivered beforehand. PS -- The OpenTable "energetic" indicator for the noise level is misleading; energy is exhausted when one must scream to be heard across a 24" expanse of the table.
I would recommend to a friend who had a little extra cash to spare. For the price you pay the food wasn’t all that great. Actually, mine was quite salty. They offered sparkling water but there was an upcharge. Paid around 90$ for two meals, sparkling water and two scoops of gelato.
Delicious choices ! Great drinks !
Jasmine was a great server.
Very good, but a bit hidden. Almost too hidden. A little marketing may go a long way, because the foundation is there.
Great food and atmosphere, 1/2 price wine Wednesday is a great offer. Looking forward to going back!
We really appreciated being able to order from upstairs and eating on the first floor. One of our group could not walk the steps..
Our waitress, Montana, was fabulous! We have had her before and she is delightful...and very efficient...She made our entire dining experience truly exceptional!
Can’t wait to return!
The restaurant was quiet, clean and the music was an appropriate level. The food was fantastic and cooked perfectly. The star of this special night was our waiter Joe was attentive, friendly, personable and really made a wonderful day perfect. Can't recommend Bonfire: The Upstairs heartily enough, especially if Joe is working. 10/10
Everything was excellent. Service from Montana was top notch. She described everything well and was efficient, neat, and unobtrusive. We all enjoyed her professionalism. The food was exquisite. We had the very fresh tasting fish which melted in your mouth. We started with The Raw Deal, which was salmon tartare. Everyone agreed that it was excellent as well, with the sesame, ginger, oriental flair. My boyfriend had the meatloaf, which he also enjoyed. The ambience was good, expecially after dark, with the nice subdued pin lights on the ceiling. I think it would have been cozier with tablecloths, but maybe they left them off for restaurant week? Anyway, we will return. I brought my friends here and everyone loved the place.
Enjoyed a delicious meal! The Raw Deal is always so fresh and tasty. We were there for restaurant week and I loved the smaller portions and wish restaurants offered these for us smaller eaters!! I wish it wasn’t so loud but otherwise had a wonderful dinner and will return.
Food was superb, service was excellent, ambiance was fantastic. Will definitely be back!
We took friends for dinner and were so happy with our choice! Food was really terrific and the servers were great. Three in our party ordered from the Restaurant Week menu and I ordered from the regular one. Everyone was very happy with their meals. Definitely will be back
I really enjoyed Bonfire! The meal was excellent! The popcorn bread pudding with bourbon caramel sauce was the best dessert I have had in years. The dessert melts in your mouth. I took it home and it did not last long.
We had a great experience. I would definitely recommend going. Best new high end dinning in Southside that is not stuffy.
Visited this restaurant for restaurant week and was very impressed. The upstairs was just the right size. The food was delicious and the service was quick. The decor was beautiful. Will definitely return.
Bad acoustics. So so service. Good food!
The upstairs is very noisy. We were a party of four and we had time hearing one another at the table.
Our waitress was very good. She was extremely helpful and friendly.
Food, service and overall look of the restaurant was really wonderful. Excellent meal, very attentive service at dinner on a Saturday evening.
The noise level was almost unbearable upstairs. The surfaces of the restaurant are all "hard." So sound bounces off these surfaces and makes conversation possible only if one yells across the table if the restaurant is busy. Some sort of soundproofing would likely help in this regard.
Otherwise, this is a great new find.
Service was very good - food was good but a bit high. The acoustics are a bit hard - the noise level was way too much.
Glad to see this one open, as I so miss our B Gourmet in Sewickley, which closed. (Same owners) When I came into Bonfire, though, I kind of wished I could eat downstairs. The burgers looked fabulous, and we were kind of looking for a bar feel. But Upstairs, the service was exquisite, the food (two of us had the steak, which was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, the other of us had the "Raw Deal," which was extremely tasty, tuna and salmon ceviche-style, as well as the Halibut, which I sampled. Even as a non-fish lover, this was a fabulous dish. All in all, our time at Bonfire was a huge success, and I'm happy to have been there. But next time? Downstairs for a try at that burger!
Loved the new venue for this restaurant. The food was awesome. We really hope this new location will be successful. We will def be back!
Absolutely perfect. The menu continues to evolve and impress.
We ate at the bottom level and the food was great so we wanted to try upstairs. It did not disappoint! The food was creative and delicious. The presentation of the food was awesome as well. We will be going to back to eat at both levels of the restaurant!
We came just for a weekend dinner and were really pleased with everything. This place is fantastic! We ordered nearly every starter and were really satisfied. The plates look and taste unbelievable!
Food was fabulous. Wait staff very attentive until we got our bill. We found it odd to be rushed out of the upstairs. It took longer for our food to be served than we were allowed to sit at the end of our meal. Lights tuned down then back up a few times. It was 10:00. We had brought guests and felt uncomfortable with this action.
Amazing tastes with visually attractive presentations for all 6 of us. Sharing entrees and small plates are welcome.
Delicious food. Fantastic server. Nice environs, but nothing special.
We were big fans of Avenue B and were excited to try Chef Bonfili's new endeavor. The upstairs restaurant is very attractive, but far too loud.
The food, for the most part, was quite good. The only disappointing dish was the pierogies. They were beautifully presented, but lacking filling. The ratio of filling to pasta was way off. The rest of the dish (mushrooms, onions, broccolini, beets) was delicious. Two of the four of us had halibut and would recommend it. Desserts were pretty, clever and delectable.
Service was probably the worst part of the evening. The food took an inordinately long time to come out, despite the fact that the restaurant was not full.
Overall, it was a nice night out and we wish Chef Bonfili much success.
Food was delicious
Service was outstanding
Upstairs was noisy making it difficult to hold a conversation
Food was good, just not spectacular. We had previously dined at Avenue B and really had a fantastic meal and experience there. Expected a similar experience at Bonfire, unfortunately, we were disappointed.
We really enjoyed our dinner. We especially liked our server… Montana.
She was very accommodating and was a pleasure to have as our server
Where can you find a hidden gem in the Burgh?! Right here. Wonderful ambience, stellar food, exceptional service and a management team that cares if your needs were met as expected!
We know Chris from Avenue B and Cafe in Sewickley. He has it now, right on!! Other places were great but BONFIRE is the real Chris. Lots of excitement at the bar and upstairs was perfect. Can’t say enough good about the food, the service and the noise level upstairs. He has paid a lot of attention to details. We could actually carry on a conversation, and it was a lot about how fabulous the food was. I think he will be there a long time. HOORAY
Upstairs...downstairs...always a terrific experience at Bonfire. The food shines, of course, and staff is as good as it gets. I suspect the differentiation between the two floors is still a work-in-progress. I embrace the quieter, finer dining experience upstairs, but I wonder if the differentiation requires a little adjustment. For example, regulars like me may have favorites from the downstairs menu that would be nice to have upstairs (or vice versa). While while the difference in ambience is thoughtful (noise level, music playlists, etc.), could it be a little stronger (tablecloths upstairs, for example?)
Anyway, I love both floors and have no doubt they will continue to evolve.
The new space in the southside is super cool, comfortable and noise level is good it was very easy to carry on a conversation.
Service and Food exceptional always very consistent as far as food goes.
We had a Friday evening reservation and didn’t have any problem parking right out front there’s about a half block away so no worries there can’t wait to go back
We had brunch downstairs. It was so noisy that you could not hold sa conversation with the person across from you. When did people begin shouting to each other in a restaurant? Also I was mildly disappointed in the menu. This is not what we were used to at Chef Chris' Avenue B.
The food and most importantly the service was outstanding here. There was a new menu and the wait staff were acquainted with everything on it.
We had a delicious dinner . Great wait staff. Absolutely love d the Brussel sprout appetizer. ,the mussels. Tuna tartare and chicken entree. Fun night and we were not rushed .
This was our first time at Bonfire. The atmosphere was very relaxing where we started off the evening with a cocktail. Our server explained the dinner selections and the food was beyond our expectations. The presentation was beautiful. Dessert was large enough for the 4 of us. We definitely will be back.
