For all the hype, I was very disappointed. We went for lunch. The noodle soup was ok but not great. The ox tails were served separately and difficult to eat - a lot of work to get the small bits of meat. My friend got a fried rice dish that she thought was "meh". I might give it another try before dismissing it entirely.
Excellent creative menu.
No bar. Just beer ,wine and sake
Enjoyed the food. Nice ambience. Our server was very nice and friendly. Portions were plentiful and priced reasonably. Will go back again!
Oxtail soup superb!!
I really want this food to be more interesting and memorable than it is. The broth should be amazing, but it’s nothing out of the ordinary in the LA area. There is more flavorful broth within walking distance of this restaurant. Appetizers are overpriced and not delicious, and the servers push them hard to upsell you. I’ve given the place three shots and all I really remember is the pushy service. It’s just not that great, and I’m not sure what all the fuss is about.
The Oxtail dumplings and oxtail noodles were fantastic. The bone marrow was bland.
Everything was great!
We enjoyed everything from service to food to ambiance!! Their specialty is the bone broth noodle but there is also a vegetarian option for non-meat eaters. The menu is mostly South East Asian influenced as well as creative Asian fusion. Definitely a must try when you're out and about in Old Town!
We had kids with us...so we were the noise. Good food and service. Definitely a good find and in the center of everything.
Service was great. Food tasted incredible
Truly terrific place! It's quite an experience, with many unique and fun dishes to try. They're all flavorful, and of course the broth is what you come here for. Eric, the owner is fun and friendly and made sure we had a great time. I'll be back.
Very heavy taste. Salty and spicy. Several dishes tastes the same. First bite = good. Then it's way too salty. Also, please Ashley the server if you wait more than 5 min for the course. I didn't speak up, end up waited 45 min. Cause server forgot the entrees after appetizer.
Chicken and fatty beef dishes (bowls) were especially good. The tofu had a bit of a pastie taste.
We loved this place so much, we went back 2 nights in a row! Amazing food!
Went in for lunch. The broth did not disappoint. They were out of the crab cakes but the oysters had been delivered that morning so they were a perfect substitute. Attentive service and pleasant surroundings.
Love, love, love it! Wish I lived in Pasadena. Will definitely return.
Food was very good but the service was a little harried. Will definitely give them another try some time.
Me and a couple of friends had a 7pm reservation. At check-in at 7pm, I was told our table was not quite ready, but would be in about 10 minutes. The hostess said we could wait outside. Approximately 20 minutes later, I checked back in to inquire about our table. She said it was not ready, but they will work on getting it clear. She asked if we were outside. We said "yes" because that is where she said we could wait. She replied, "Oh yeah, I did say that." She was apologetic and she offered our party a round of drinks on the house. I accepted with the caveat that we get seated within 10 minutes. We went to the bar and ordered our drinks. They only had a handful of wines to choose from (no spirits). My friends ordered a chablis. I ordered a Syrah. The 20 something who took our request seemed confused about our requests. It didn't sound like he knew wine at all. He asked somebody else and our drinks were provided. The syrah wasn't bad. My friends enjoyed the chablis. About 10-15 minutes later, we were seated.
The servers were generally prompt and attentive. My friends seemed to enjoy their food. I ordered the bone marrow, a cup of bone broth, and their gnocchi. The bone marrow offered was a healthy portion. With bone marrow, it is hard to tell how much marrow you will get. But, this bone had a generous amount of marrow. The toast was cold and not that toasty which detracts from the bone marrow dish. The gnocchi was only ok. It was a very generous portion, but the gnocchi itself was not that soft. Finally, they forgot to bring my cup of bone broth so I just canceled it.
So, overall, it wasn't a horrible experience. It just wasn't a top notch experience. The portions were generous. The food just above average. I might try it once more if I am in the area. But, I don't know that I will choose it as a destination spot as I live about an hour away.
Unfortunately the food was not great except for the chicken wings. Chinese broccoli arrived late and was totally over cooked. Ordered chicken for the soup and it was an entire breast cut in very thick slices that were difficult to eat. Broth itself was over salted.
Very good food
Good noodles, chicken had lots of gristle and some bones.
A worthy successor to the dearly departed and outstanding Yujean Kang that used to occupy this space.
We had a very nice dinner. We ordered the Tasting menu and therefore tried all the options. Oysters were awesome and loved broth. Terrific find for Pasadena dining.
I came to see the Cleon Peterson mural but was convinced to stay by the oxtail dumplings. Cool environment and interesting food. Great job!
The food here was so good! Inventive, interesting, delicious. Service was great too, and the space is nice.
Food was overly salted
For the type of food they serve, the dim lighting is rather inappropriate since it's basically a noodle shop...a VERY overpriced noodle shop when you think about the fact that they're $11 a bowl, without ANY meat, just a few slices of carrots (none of the infamous baby carrots) and sprouts. To add a few thin slices of beef will put you close to $30. Save your money and go to a ramen shop instead where you get much more bang for your bucks. The soup is rich, but it's pretty much enriched pho soup with maybe some of the Chinese beef stew flavoring mixed into it, nothing THAT special. And the thing with them pouring the soup into your noodles? The server did it so quickly I didn't even get a chance to enjoy him doing it. It would've been nicer if we got to do that on our own. Not to mention, chinese noodle shops offer dishes where the noodles and soup are separated for 1/3 of the price. The steak tartare was good, but it was so dim inside my dinner companion pointed out you can't even see if the steak is discolored. The oxtail dumplings are SO SALTY. Actually everything was oversalted. We were chugging water for the rest of the night. I really can't recommend the place.
We enjoyed sitting at the table in the back and it felt like a private room. The server was attentive and the food was excellent. The broth is everything they say it is.
We loved the food and service. Great wine at a reasonable price. Very special evening for a decent price. Oxtail bone broth and also oxtail dumplings. But my friends had all the other broths and loved them. Great to share a few things and have the broth and noodles.
Setting is stunning with Mural along main wall.
I tried several items on the menu and the bone soup it was delicious but it wasn’t AWE inspiring I will go another time and try some of the other dishes. the ingredients were very fresh you could tell it was good quality. The service was fantastic overall it’s a great place but again I wouldn’t CALL IT the greatest restaurant that opened in LA.
We tried this restaurant to sample a different cuisine. Their specialty is long simmered broth soups with various ingredients added. This dish was tasty. My colleague was not in the mood for soup and the limited alternatives to their specialty left him less satisfied. My recommendation is to check out the menu to see if there is something that you want.
Good service, interesting beer selection.
Everything was wonderful. I highly recommend it.
Excellent food and appetizers, you can sample any of the beer or wine before selection and the bone broth was simply outstanding. Servers were friendly, helpful and on top of their game.
Good food, clam and donut and gnocchi are the best.
Flavors are amazing. Ambience is great. Menu changes frequently. Will definitely be back.
The best meal I have had in a long while. A tad salty but oh so worth every delicious drop of broth. The oxtail dumplings and clams and donuts are seriously so good.
Amazing! Everything we ate was delicious! Green papaya salad, shrimp fried rice and bone broth with chicken. They were all exceptional and we will be craving Bone Kettle frequently in the future!
The place had good reviews on yelp and my friend decided to give it a try.
The food was phenomenal, especially, the ox tail Ramen.
Will definitely put this on the must-see again list.
