Bonaparte Ratings and Reviews
I have eaten at Bonaparte a fewtimes bow and it never fails to be an amazing evening. The tasting menu is worth it and my favs are the onion soup, escargot, lamb, duck or filet. A wonderful wine list and cocktails and the staff are attentive, charming and knowledgeable. Worth the visit!
My friends and I had an excellent time at Bonaparte! I had driven up from NYC to surprise my friend on her engagement day, and rushed in from the cold, asking the host (in a bit of a panic) if the staff could help us with the surprise. They not only followed my directions exactly, they also came up with ideas of their own on how they could hide us - while still giving us an excellent table - all within 10 minutes of the fiancee's arrival. The surprise worked! On top of that, our waiter gave us complimentary champagne to celebrate, decorated our desserts with sparklers to make things extra special, and everyone on staff treated us with kindness and warmth, offering their best wishes to the happy couple. They really went the extra mile to make it a special experience - and the food, wine and ambience were all wonderful. Thank you to the team at Bonaparte for making it such a memorable night for us! We'll be back again!
I visited Bonaparte with close family for my birthday and we had a lovely time. I have a GI condition and a number of dietary intolerances, but I corresponded with management ahead of time and the staff and kitchen were most respectful of my needs and very accommodating. I don't normally eat out, because it can be stressful making such specific requests, but I felt very comfortable at Bonaparte and would definitely visit again. My guests very much enjoyed the tasting menu and the table d'hôte, and I very much enjoyed my modified main! Lovely classic ambiance and romantic location in the Vieux-Port. Highly recommended.
AMAZING DINNER! We had one of the most memorable dinners ever. From the moment we arrived to saying goodnight to our waiter, our expectations were surpassed at every turn. Frédéric was undoubtedly the most attentive, polite, kind, friendly and knowledgeable waiter I've ever experienced. We were so taken by the delicious menu and by Frédéric that we tried to make a reservation for the following night, but unfortunately they were fully booked. We will definitely come back to Bonaparte the next time we visit Old Montreal. This is the perfect place to dine - the dinner menu and the wine selection are truly remarkable. We'd recommend Bonaparte to anyone. An 11 out of 10.
The service and ambience was excellent so I’d come here again for a nice evening out. The food was kind of a hit or miss. Some of the dishes were too bland for our liking (the escargots and lobster bisque) while the chicken was amazing - their white sauce and the cheese paired very well, proportions were just right to give it enough taste without being too rich or cheesy. The hanger steak however was a medium-rare but turned out more on the rare side.
Dinner or drinks at Bonaparte is always a wonderful time, the food is excellent and the extensive wine list offers selections at every price point. The service is amazing, so professional and warm, anticipating your every need with thoughtful suggestions and excellent recommendations. The dining rooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable, there is no place cozier on a winter's evening than a table near the fireplace. Looking forward to our next visit to Bonaparte!
Very pleasant fine dining meal. The wait staff was impeccable and the waiter in particular, was very attentive to our needs. He offered samplings of wine by the glass and even replaced a nice glass of wine for me that I unfortunately spilled, promptly moving us to an adjacent table, with no fuss whatsoever. The food was delicious and the ambiance was fantastic. What you would expect from a fine French restaurant. Merci!
Fantastic meal! The service was impecabile. The ambiance wonderful. The staff knew how to stage a meal, allowing us to enjoy our cocktails before the meal was served. I recommend starting with the vanilla shrimp and it doesn't really matter which emtre u order, they are all great! The wine list is varied, we had an amazing French red from Languedoc. Enjoy!!!
Beautiful setting (if you can, ask for a window table) and impeccable service.
I had the smoked salmon starter. Crisp, clean, smoky and nice texture. My date had the game terrine and would have liked the flavour to have been slightly more “gamey”. She had the duck confit for a main and it was sensational. Tender, rich and filling. I had the seafood pasta, which was beautifully prepared and presented. The fish was perfectly cooked and the sauce was tasty but not too rich and creamy.
We had a wonderful meal. The tasting menu was great, portions were much larger than we expected. Soufflé for dessert... need I say more.
Our server Jason was outstanding, offered great suggestions and impeccable service.
We would recommend this restaurant to everyone and will return on our next trip to Montreal.
Overall very good. Food was fantastic. Service was excellent and tolerant for a couple late guests in the party. Quaint location in Old Montreal. Indoor decor matched the neighbourhood the restaurant resides - stylish classic. The only negative was the location of our table which appeared a temp location to accommodate additional patrons - by the bar at the entrance. This made for some tight quarters for those patrons sitting in more permanent locations. For this the excellent points was over shadowed by this negative.
The food and drink here were exceptional. Our waiter was professional and friendly. The experience was even better than we expected. The Foie Gras appetizer, well there aren’t words to describe the Creme brûlée and foie except maybe heavenly. We had the lobster pasta dish and the duck breast and both were fabulous, cooked to perfection. Great cocktails and wines, recommended by our server paired perfectly! We will go back next time we are in Montreal!
We were visiting Montreal for my birthday and were excited to try this restaurant because of all the great reviews. It truly lived up to all the great reviews. The staff was attentive and helpful and very friendly. We were seated at a window table. We ordered the mushroom ravioli which was the best we ever had. The rack of lamb and the filet were top notch. But the highlight was the Grand Marnier Souffle for dessert. For a special occasion this is the place to go.
