Too expensive for indian food standards. Many upscale restaurants in DC are not as expensive as this one. Vegetarian dishes are ranging from $20 to 26 and the quantity is not even sufficient for one person. My mohito was watered down and My huband's bay of bengal drink was tasteless, waste of money.
The dishes are fancy but too big for the size of table, Tables are too small to fit the fancy serving dishes. I ordered Dal Makhni, the dish took more than half of the table and hardly had enough for both of us to share.
What I liked was that the dishes were out of the box, the chef was creative. Loved the decor!
awesome... been there twice already in a week.
An excellent new addition to the NoVa restaurant scene. Super decor and ambience with a very attentive server. Food was nicely done and well prepared. Great place for a special occasion.
The items were overpriced and the tables too small for two people.
Awesome modern indian food. The options were plentiful, the mushroom appetizer was delicious as was the lamb chop appetizer. The lobster curry was divine. The craft drinks were a lot of fun. I would highly recommend this to anyone. (Only thing they were lacking was a vegetarian curry which I found surprising.)
New restaurant. Nice atmosphere. Food was good. Had an interesting menu.
Way too expensive. $80.00 for an Appetizer, Entree and 2 glasses of wine. Menu and presentation was exquisite. Eclectic for an Indian restaurant.
Lunch for $20.00 would be more affordable. That's what I plan to recommend to a friend. Will not go again for dinner on account of expense.
The food is delicious. I highly recommend a cocktail.
Bombay Velvet has very good food, and a nice, if somewhat non-authentic Indian ambiance. But that's ok - the food was what we went for anyway. And the service was very good as well. Would definitely go back again.
One thing though, I had been trying to get a reservation through Open Table for several weeks, and finally just reserved several days in advance. However, when we got to the restaurant (reservation was for 6:45), there were many empty tables, so I asked my wife to check Open Table and see what was open. She said that the next reservation was 8:15 - I don't understand because there were a lot of open tables at that time (around 7:00).
The food was served cold. It's too dark, almost depressing inside. Very expensive compared to the food quality that u get. Indian food not enough for me. service was excellent.
Would recommend with a proviso - food is good but not what you would expect if you want a curry - no curry. All food mildly spiced and more geared towards fine dining with an Indian twist - the inspiration according to our waiter is more European. Food also overpriced although service very good.
Ambience interesting and modern if somewhat dark.
Amazing food, excellent fusion of flavors...a bit pricey but worth it when you taste the food!
Great new restaurant with a fresh take on Indian cuisine. Service was great. Food was well thought out with excellent flavors.
Amazing food and excellent drinks.
What a wonderful addition to the area - great ambience, fantastic food, and excellent service.
Service, food, ambiance were just ok. Not worth the very high price. If you go, set your expectations. This is not a typical Indian restaurant...they strive for a hip, fine dining experience. Go to see and be seen, except nobody is there. Maybe they are too early for Reston's development... we are not yet urban enough. AC is blasting too.
