I was really looking forward to dining here, as I am a huge Rasika fan. The cocktails (Bombay G&T and Manhattan) were great. The food was all delicious: tandoori salmon was rare and delicate, the dal was beautifully spiced and cooked, the naan fluffy and flavorful. The okra was good but a bit too spicy for most diners. The mango creme brûlée had a hint of mango flavor and the custard was very nice with a proper crust.
My critique comes from the service and the upkeep. The service was technically very good and professional but it was VERY rushed. Chairs were constantly being added and taken away from our two person booth as they set and reset tables around us. We were given menus and then asked in less than 5 minutes if we were ready to order. Everything felt very very rushed and we didn’t have the opportunity to just sit and enjoy our cocktails or the meal. It all felt overly transactional. Everyone was friendly and professional just FAR too rushed.
The ladies room is also in severe need of a remodel. The toilet paper dispenser was half ripped out of the wall, the wallpaper is drab, and the doors are pretty beat up. The restroom was also filthy: water everywhere, paper towels and toilet paper littered all over the floor, and empty toilet paper rolls left in the holders. I notified the host and he thanked me genuinely for letting him know but as a former hostess at multiple restaurants (in DC and elsewhere), any restroom should never get into that state even on a busy night.
The food here is great but it isn’t the 5 star experience I was hoping for and have experienced at Ashok Bajaj’s other restaurants. I feel a couple of overhaul touches and retraining could really make this place shine again.
Great experience .
Please try thali
Royal Indian feeling
The Bombay Club team consistently presents great food in a beautiful environment.
We took a large party for a celebration. We had excellent service, lots of attention and fabulous food. The crispy kale is amazing. Thanks for a lovely evening
A great place for a special meal. The food is delicious and the service is superb. The menu contains old favorites and nouveau Indian entries. The choices should please most diners.
Really glad I got to visit here. Take yourself away for a few an hour or 2 to the 1930s. Staff are polite and efficient. Not pushy or hello my name is. .....
Piano player is a nice touch. Great ambience. Service was prompt and everything was delicious. Good size portions for price point. Nice Cocktail list too. Definitely would go back as I didn’t try the amazing desserts. Mango Creme Brûlée to name one.
The food and service were outstanding. We especially loved the pianist.
Went on Mother’s Day and had the buffet. They increased the buffet prices from $26 to $36 Due to the special weekend. The options changed to chose 1 appetizer and 1 dessert from a list rather than going unlimited times to buffet on regular weekends. The dishes also were not great options as usual. I do not recommend going on a weekend where it is a special occasion (e.g., Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, etc.)
Funky old world charm. Great classic Indian dishes. Could be a bit more generous with the breads and chutney though.
The Bombay Club was an upscale experience for a reasonable price. The food was delicious and the servers were very attentive. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys Indian food.
I have been here a number of times. They have maintained the quality of the restaurant. One of the best Indian restaurant in US.
Waiter was highly knowledgeable and helpful. I loved the crispy kale, the naan, the eggplant dish I ordered, everything really.
This was an excellent choice while visiting Washington DC. We sat outside which was fabulous - it seemed quite noisy inside. We felt that at first the service seemed a bit cursory, but after a few interactions with our waiter he warmed up and it was very friendly, efficient and helpful. The food was amazing - really beautiful flavours, just the right amount, and we felt very good value for money.
Jay is the best server at any restaurant in DC.
Good place - decent as a backup to Rasika or Karma Modern where the food is better.
Excellent as always. Get the soup, the garlic naan and chicken biryani. Each could be a delicious meal.
tried and tested. My go to place. Keep it up folks.
Food is amazing. We ate outside, at our choice. The ambiance great inside but just average outside. The initial service outside was very slow, us and another nearby table hd been seated for at least 15 min and were both being completely ignored by staff. Once we were able to flag staff down service was excellent.
We were looking for somewhere quiet with very good food and an environment where we could have a table of 8 and converse with everyone. Bombay Club hit on all points. The Indian food, while very solid was not transcendent. No complaints and plenty of accolades at the table - some dishes stood out. Restaurant was full but not noisy, live piano made the ambiance. Would return for sure. Service was outstanding. Only complaint was that the wines were overpriced (3x retail) rather than "normal" at 2-2.5x retail.
It doesn't get more civilized in DC. Took out-of-towners who were impressed. My translucent slices of seared duck with cashew sauce were sublime. Crispy kale chaat, scallops in a chili sauce, chicken kabobs with an herby green sauce, and bread to share. Then the duck, my guests swooned over the seafood curry, a complex lamb dish which was excellent but seemed out of season. A lovely, fun night being spoiled...and don't miss the gin & tonics!
Great food and drinks. Must try the crispy kale. We loved the entrees with multiple options.
We were celebrating my son’s birthday. This is our go-to place for celebrations. Great food, great ambience, excellent service, elegant dining but not stuffy. The piano player is also amazing!
We’ve had dinner here the last few times we’ve been in DC and this place is Awesome! Always a good experience!
3rd visit and this restaurant never disappoints
Beautiful ambience, food was wonderful and the service outstanding. First time here but won't be the last.
I’ve been here several times, though it’s been over 5 years. This restaurant is reliable for a white tablecloth experience. The staff and service are cordial. But generally the food isn’t significantly better than the other fine Indian restaurants in the city.
Love Bombay Club - we try to come in often. Always feels like a treat. Love the old school ambiance of the bar, coat check, and especially the live piano music. Did not live our waiter this time, which was unusual. Didn’t make the evening quite as fun, but the food and service in general were fantastic.
We love the Bombay club, they clearly had an off night as our experience was mid range ad best. We’ll be back as I’m sure it was a one off. Cheers.
Amazing food. Our waiter Raj was energetic, knowledgeable. The food was delicious. As an Indian I was very impressed. Highly recommend it.
Food was delicious and service was fantastic. The servers were professional.
nice warm restaurant service slow and poor.sister restaurant much better
Absolutely delicious food! My husband and I hadn’t had Indian food in awhile and the waiter’s recommendations were great!
I love Bombay Club. Easter Sunday Brunch 2019 was lovely from the very beginning with the Host greeting my husband and me warmly and giving us our favorite corner table by the window, then with the delicious food and champagne menu, and then the excellent table service by The Ethiopian. Flawless.
Thank you, too, for beautiful Rasika.
This is the best Indian restaurant I'm DC. You will not be disappointed!
Classic, sublime, exemplary service, extraordinarily flavorful Indian cuisine.
Bombay Club was a wonderful place to renew an old friendship. The Maitre D' found us a wonderful table that was off the beaten track, but still very much in the midst of action in the Dinning Room. Just perfect! The food was exceptionally good - wonderful spices, delicious flavors, and good potion size. The service was kind and efficient, and our server knew when to give us more time without our having to ask for it. The ambiance was warm and sophisticated - really conducive to an enjoyable evening meal with a god friend
In short, Bombay Club is an excellent choice for a special dinner or for a regular one that you want to make special!
This is a great location for work and more formal meals. The food is consistantly good and the service is very attentive.
The bus staff needs to be trained better. The busier tried to move a chair from the table and my guest had to stand up, which was fine. She the then offered to let the busser take her chair so that it would be easier than trying to move the chair that was further away. The busier took her chair and couldn't even be bothered to move the other chair to where my guest was seated! Amazing.
The server had no clue as to which dish Chef would be most proud of and didn't describe the Green chili chicken except to say it it was with green chilis. hardly helpful
For me, Rasika handling the small stuff much better and is a much better option.
Best Indian food in Washington, DC. Great service. Always a pleasure.
Birthday lunch. Great food and outstanding service. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive and enhanced the experience.
