Boltwood Ratings and Reviews
The food at Boltwood was good but not great. The Wednesday oyster special is a great value and the potato appetizer was excellent. Lamb Ragu was the best of the main courses we ordered. The pumpkin cheesecake was also a highlight. I had heard really wonderful things and the chef has impressive creditials but I didn’t think it quite lived up to what I was expecting.
Very good food.
Staff was accommodating - I asked for a quieter table and got one in a corner. Wait staff was attentive but not over-bearing. First time I'd been there for week day lunch. I had been there before for Sunday brunch which was also very good and nicely relaxed.
We had been meaning to get to Boltwood for a while and finally made it last Saturday night. So glad we did! Everything we ordered from the beet salad to the hangar steak to the fish and chips was delicious. And the service was exceptional. I'm sorry I didn't get the name of our server because she was incredible - knowledgeable, attentive without intruding - couldn't have asked from better service.
This hidden gem that showed up on my "find me gluten free " app was an amazing find!! Not only was our server completely organized with our food sensitivities , she went back and spoke to the cook directly and they made a special potato dish that was outstanding!
My husband and I cannot wait to go back there!
My spouse and I dine out often, and are constantly seeking new dining experiences. We selected Boltwood on a whim due mostly to its convenience from the theater and available reservation spot. What a wonderful surprise, from the fine service delivered by Lyndon (sp), the tasty cocktails (we tipped the bartender!), and a meal to die for. I had the perfectly-cooked grilled salmon, the chopped salad (enough for 2+) and crispy potatoes. It must be noted: It was the rare occasion where we consumed everything on our plates! Nice surprise, were served complimentary champagne in acknowledgement of our 2nd year wedding anniversary. It was a memorable dining experience.
Food was okay but nothing special. They don’t really explain how they are farm to table so if you didn’t know you would never know. Service was okay but nothing special either. While we had a nice time there really wasn’t anything that would make me go back again. It was not very memorable.
Wonderfully fresh wholesome food. My boyfriend and I split the fresh bread, pretzel bites, beer and broccoli salad, and the burger. All we're delicious. Would definitely order all of it again. One regret was not getting the eggplant rigatoni but that is a reason to go back!
I sat at the bar, it was a Wed night so they had the Oyster special ($1 ea). Unfortunately they ran out right as I was ordering them. I had the best salad and the mussels which were both great! The bread served with the mussels was really good and great so sipping up the broth. Better value than some of the other well known restaurants in town.
Boltwood is our favorite restaurant: we've become regulars. We love that they use wide variety of fresh organic ingredients from the Evanston Farmers Market, meat from nearby farms that pasture raise their livestock, many main dishes are light on carbs, that the menu varies from week to week with different variations on more-or-less the same protein item, prices are reasonable and dishes are reliably delicious. Their by-the-glass wines are a cut above the norm, and cocktails are creative. We haven't sampled the beers or the desserts to comment on them. Our favorite staff member is Becka: she'll take care of you. And Wednesday nights oysters are half price. Our only reservation is that the noise level is quite high, though greatly improved from what it was when they launched.
