Michelin starred Boka Restaurant has been a fixture in Chicago dining since 2003. In January 2014, Chef Lee Wolen joined as Executive Chef/Partner after the restaurant underwent a major renovation. Since his time at Boka, critics have taken notice. Phil Vettel of Chicago Tribune and Eater Chicago both named Lee as “2014 Chef of the Year.” Most recently, Lee was named 2015 “Chef of the Year” and Boka restaurant was awarded 2015 “Restaurant of the Year” at Chicago’s coveted Jean Banchet Awards. Boka’s food features contemporary, American cuisine, focusing on seasonality and sourcing as many local ingredients as possible. Pasty Chef Meg Galus joined Boka’s kitchen in 2015 and provides a seamless transition between savory and sweet, mirroring Wolen’s use of excellent, high quality ingredients that are prepared and plated beautifully.

Boka Ratings and Reviews
I love almost everything about Boka. The decor and food was outstanding. The only complaint is the servers can be a little more attentive and when describing the dishes they can speak a little slower instead of rushing through it. The food was great! The highlight was the shaved foie gras and the duck. I would definitely like to come back and I would recommend this place to my friends.
This was my first experience dining at a Michelin star restaurant and it was the best meal of my life thus far. Every single bite of food I put into my mouth literally made my girlfriend and I just speechless. We only had 1 perfectly balanced cocktail, yet we felt drunk at the end of the meal. I believe this is due to the large amount of endorphins released from the amuse bouche to the dessert. Never have we tasted such perfect pairings of flavors. My mission is to come back here again for their full tasting course and visit their other restaurants in the Boka Restaurant Group.
We went during restaurant week, so a limited menu was available however the choices we had all sounded incredible and the ones we chose were excellent. They had preselected wines to pair with each dish too. All seemed very thought out and out experience here was delightful, thank you for having us. I have nothing but good things to say about Boka!
We visited Boka for Chicago a Restaurant Week, and I'm so glad we did! The service is top notch from the time you make your reservation, til you walk out the door. The ambiance was cozy and warm with great tunes. The food was all fantastic. The portions were generous for an upscale restaurant, beautifully presented with some nice little surprises thrown in. You won't be disappointed!
Amazing food. It is probably the best restaurant week deal. Beets with crunchy peanuts and Chaddar is so well-balanced, but the avocado moose is little too sour to my taste. Slow poached egg with pasta is very rich and flavorful. The egg is perfectly cooked and the yolk just blended into the creamy foam smoothly. It is a bit on the salty side but still very nice. Roasted chicken is tender and the look is fabulous with the golden colored skin, the flawless white meat and the thin filling in between. The paired sauce is so rich, reminds me of foie gras and adds some duck flavor to the dish. The dark chocolate dessert is interesting with layers of dark chocolate crunches, chocolate moose, and a chocolate cake in the center. Overall, this is a very pleasant meal. Will definitely go again.
Note: I ordered a poached egg dish that must have been handled improperly as I was horribly sick less than an hour or two after I ate. Unexpected for a restaurant like this to get something like that wrong. My advice would be to only order dishes that are fully cooked since playing Russian roulette with your gastrointestinal system doesn’t seem like a fun game. Other than that all four courses were absolutely delicious, as well as the drinks. Perfect portions with interesting and unexpected flavor combinations. Service was outstanding. The only negative comment that I would give about the staff is that I would’ve expected to have been contacted after informing them of the mishap.
Everything was great. I especially appreciated that they were able to modify the restaurant week menu for lactose intolerance, which made me experience very nice! Only complaint is that the portions were small and I was still kind of hungry after I finished
The food itself lived up to the reputation of a Michelin star restaurant. Creativity is one of the strong suits and prices were quite reasonable especially during the Chicago Restaurant Week. The restaurant was packed and the ambiance was quite loud. There were no empty tables anywhere but that was expected. Overall experience was good and would definitely consider dropping by again.
Restaurant week menu was fantastic!! The hamachi and grapefruit was refreshing and scallops were to die for. I had the chicken and it was very juicy. My boyfriend had the pork neck and that was so tender and delicious. For dessert the banana was amazing and the lemon creme fraiche cake was a nice compliment. My boyfriend had the dark chocolate and I was super jealous. It was so decadent with a rich taste of coffee.
We received our menu right away which is something we usually like however we did want to end with an espresso. So we felt a little rushed out. Otherwise it was a great experience and I would recommend to get the wine pairings!
I am going to go back to Boka to trry it again. We went during restaurant week and I was not terribly impressed with the offered prix fix menu. I have heard wonderful thingss about teh restaurant and want to try the regular menu. The service was EXCELLENT = as was the wine pairing. Thus they certainly deserve another try.
