Michelin starred Boka Restaurant has been a fixture in Chicago dining since 2003. In January 2014, Chef Lee Wolen joined as Executive Chef/Partner after the restaurant underwent a major renovation. Since his time at Boka, critics have taken notice. Phil Vettel of Chicago Tribune and Eater Chicago both named Lee as “2014 Chef of the Year.” Most recently, Lee was named 2015 “Chef of the Year” and Boka restaurant was awarded 2015 “Restaurant of the Year” at Chicago’s coveted Jean Banchet Awards. Boka’s food features contemporary, American cuisine, focusing on seasonality and sourcing as many local ingredients as possible. Pasty Chef Meg Galus joined Boka’s kitchen in 2015 and provides a seamless transition between savory and sweet, mirroring Wolen’s use of excellent, high quality ingredients that are prepared and plated beautifully.

Boka Ratings and Reviews
Our service from the hostess to the bartender to our server was amazing. We had a amazing food and everyone was attentive personable and made sure we had one of the best dinner experiences in Chicago. Our waiter made sure we understood our drinks and dinner options and added a special touch to our desert.
Couldn't have asked for better food, service, ambiance, you name it. Told them we were coming for mine and my sister's birthday and they went the full nine yards, greeting us with complimentary sparkling wine was just the cherry on top of an amazing meal. The tartar and octopus appetizers are to die for. It seemed like every other table in the room was celebrating a birthday as well, and it makes sense because dining here is truly an experience. That being said, prices are reasonable for what you get so I don't necessarily think you need to save this place just for a special occasion. This was my first time dining here and i can't wait to go back!
Boka is one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago. Having eaten at many of the more expensive restaurants deserving of applause, we find Boka consistently outstanding in every respect--food, service, ambiance. You may spend more money here, but you will never be disappointed in so doing.
We had been going to Boka for years and this time the quality of food was not nearly as delicious as usual. The menu wasn't as compelling as in past years either. I heard the chef changed or is less present now and it shows. It's unfortunate but we'll try a new restaurant next time.
From the time you open the door until you grudgingly leave this cozy oasis, everything about Boka is perfect. The service could not be better, the staff is knowledgeable and gracious, and the food inventive but accessible. Short but satisfactory list of wines by the glass; great list by the bottle. Boka didn't miss a beat and we will definitely be back when we have something to celebrate.
Boka is a special place. We go there to celebrate. The kitchen prepares meals that are visually creative and the food tastes phenomenal. On this visit we ordered what appeared to be a simple chicken dish but Boka made it amazing with their presentation, perfect preparation and flavor combinations.
They elevate the dining experience with great atmosphere, unique cocktails, interesting menu choices, a wine list that accommodates various budgets and always with a heightened level of friendly service. For all that they deliver, Boka is an excellent value as well.
My wife and I went to Boka for her birthday and we had a wonderful time. The tasting menu did not disappoint! She also got the wine pairings which were fantastic and improved each course of the meal. The presentation was on point and the flavors full and complex. The staff was knowledgeable and were at the table the right amount. The bill was high for the tasting menu, but worth it for the quality and variety of flavors.
Michelin star restaurant with creative menu, great staff, and attentive service. Each plate is a flavorful artistic composition. Portions just right, not oversized. Nice small touches like heated milk for tea. Great for special occasions with personalized menu, champagne and special dessert on the house!
Friendly staff, great drinks, and definitely deserving of its Michelin Star! My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time here. We had the octopus appetizer and the dry roasted duck, which were phenomenal- compliments to the chef. My girlfriend ordered a custom made drink that was made exactly how she wanted it, and the staff was even kind enough to take pictures of us! It's definitely worth the price and I'd like to visit again sometime.
We were really looking forward to dining based on reviews from a friend. The Assistant Manager reserved a table for 6 after being told we could not upgrade from original reservation for 4. The service was great. The food was okay, small servings and limited menu. Lightning was dark so difficult to read menu. We expected a unique dining experience and was disappointed.
We always have great dining experiences at Boka! It is one of our favorite dining destinations. We often dine at Boka before attending plays at Steppenwolf ( which is just across the street). Whenever friends come to Chicago from out of town, Boka is at the top of our list. The menu always includes some very creative cuisine. Service is provided at a very high level. Attentive, but not intrusive. We look forward to returning to Boka in the near future.
This was an amazing experience- it had been a long time since my wife and I had a date night and you far exceeded our expectations. You took such great care of us, the menu was amazing from start to finish and I could not be happier. The venison was the best dish I have had since the sea urchin dish at Central in Peru. Thank YOU!
It was good. Not exceptional. It felt a bit like trying too hard. The service was speedy - felt almost rushed, honestly. Felt like we were treated as customers, not clients. It was fine but we were underwhelmed. The dessert was the best part, and they didn’t sound great from the menu (trying too hard?).
Have been wanting to try Boka since moving to Chicago and was not disappointed. In fact left feeling completely smitten and wanting to return. From the detail in the amuse, the bread and house made butter, to the after dinner truffles and all food in between made for a stellar experience. My favorite part was the uniquely delicious Autumnal Ashes cocktail. The music playing in the background also made for perfect ambiance at the perfect volume. I want their Spotify playlist.
I loved I.T! Everything was great! I got the cheese ravioli and it was the best thing I had by far. I order an ice tea and I asked for sugar and I had to ask many times to finally get the sugar. I split the duck because it serves two and I.T was very good but I did find a hair laid across my plate. I didn’t mention anything to the waiter but I didn’t eat that part of my plate. For dessert I got the hazelnut and it was very good,, the ice cream was amazing that comes with the dish.
