Michelin starred Boka Restaurant has been a fixture in Chicago dining since 2003. In January 2014, Chef Lee Wolen joined as Executive Chef/Partner after the restaurant underwent a major renovation. Since his time at Boka, critics have taken notice. Phil Vettel of Chicago Tribune and Eater Chicago both named Lee as “2014 Chef of the Year.” Most recently, Lee was named 2015 “Chef of the Year” and Boka restaurant was awarded 2015 “Restaurant of the Year” at Chicago’s coveted Jean Banchet Awards. Boka’s food features contemporary, American cuisine, focusing on seasonality and sourcing as many local ingredients as possible. Pasty Chef Meg Galus joined Boka’s kitchen in 2015 and provides a seamless transition between savory and sweet, mirroring Wolen’s use of excellent, high quality ingredients that are prepared and plated beautifully.

Boka Ratings and Reviews
An absolutely all around fantastic and place. Service was present and in point whine being unobtrusive. The food was of good value and very well executed, and the ambience was lively but still incredibly relaxed. When a meal is at a price point above the hundred per person mark, it usually takes a lot for me to feel as if I want to return (as there are usually a ton of places to explore) but I definitely want more if Boka. Wonderful job, you guys. Thank you so much.
This place is overrated. It might be special years ago, but now is being outdated with the menu selection . Even the freshness of some sea food items on the tasting manu was questionable...
Overall impression was disappointing.
Service is highly professional and superb.
Met some special friends in Chicago with the thought of trying some highly rated and recommended restaurants. Boka being one of those choices. Our party of four decided on the chief tasting and reserve wine pairing. We were looking for the best Boka had to offer. Two courses were deemed almost unpalatable by the group. Wines were paired well while being served prior, during and after food presentation adding to the most disappointing part of the meal, service. The good news, I have had some of my most memorable dining experiences while visiting Chicago, unfortunately, Boka was not one.
Boka never ceases to please with imaginative cuisine, exceptional service, and an outstanding cocktail program in an urban chic environment. If you enjoy fine dining with a maximum of attention to perfection in an unpretentious welcoming environment, you should make Boka a regular destination.
Overall, fabulous restaurant! We were 45 minutes late (horrendous traffic) for a Saturday night reservation and I would have totally understood if we were turned away but I called and was told no problem. We immediately got a table upon arrival. Waiter was great and ambiance was very nice. I did order sea bass, which was very fishy. I told waiter and he offered up another meal. I declined and ate off my date's plate. Within minutes, the kitchen sent out another entrée (same as what they noticed I was eating). They said I couldn't leave hungry. I was very impressed. Although it was completely not necessary, they took the meal off the bill. I would definitely go back.
I was not as impressed as I'd hoped to be. The restaurant is quite dark, and the food was served on dark plates so you could barely see what you were eating. The presentation could be improved. Most of the elements were piled on top of one another. In most cases, I had no idea what I was eating. I also thought each course could have been explained better. At $600 for 4 people (without tip), I was expecting to be wowed, which I was not. Flavors were interesting; I just wish I'd known what they were.
I cannot put my experience into words. It was beyond amazing, Jack, our server, was beyond knowledgeable, our food was exquisite..... I just cannot say enough. We were on a a date night. Every bite was an explosion of culture, flavor, and experience... our server went beyond his description of each and every tasting - even if we were unsure of the dish we somehow wanted it because of him. I mean it was just amazing and in the end they knew it was a night away from our kids and they gave us an exquisite finale to our dining experience with take home desserts for our little ones. I mean above and beyond for this restaurant and i hope everyone can take a glimpse in their journey to experience this amazing restaurant.
I have one word for BOKA: fabulous!!! The food was creative in a very thoughtful way, and was perfectly prepared with elegantly balanced flavors. Delicious! The service was the best I have encountered in a long, long time. Overall, one of the best restaurant experiences I've had.
The food, service and ambiance were all phenomenal. I was there on a date and they seated us in the “fern room” in a corner booth. It almost seemed like I specifically requested that table but the restaurant must have predicted the date and gave us an intimate booth. We ordered 4 courses plus desert (including the slow roasted short rib- unbelievable) and they split / portioned everything out onto two plates for us, which was a really nice service. Desert was also exceptional - the chocolate, hazelnut, whatever, it was bomb. My only criticism, and it’s fairly minor in the grand scheme, was the timing. The first three courses were brought out in fairly rapid succession. It would have been nice if they spaced them out a little bit more but honestly not a huge deal. I would HIGHLY recommended Boka to anyone looking for an expectional dining experience.
This dinner was the highlight of our first trip to Chicago! The ambiance is romantic but fun, excellent service but not stuffy. Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly, we felt very comfortable talking with him and learning more about the amazing food and wine. If you can swing it, go for the tasting menu with wine pairing!
Boka is, hands down, one of the best restaurants in Chicago and elsewhere. Superior service by the wait team which included 2 Jacks, Brandon, and Ally. Phenomenal and creative foods are elegantly served in a timely fashion. My starter, a wonderful tortilla was very tasty. My entree, braised short ribs, were perfectly cooked and very tender.
I wholeheartedly recommend Boka. I have eaten here on many occasions and have never been disappointed. Great atmosphere, staff and food!!
Easily one of the best restaurants in Chicago. Everything we had was fantastic, from the cocktails and amuse bouche through dessert. The menu is not huge but everything is carefully put together in creative ways so that it doesn't taste like anything you've had before. The dry aged beef tartare, the heirloom carrots, the grilled bass entree and the beet entree with seeds were all amazing. It's a pretty spot with low lights and intimate tables. The service was fantastic. We ate before Steppenwolf, but will certainly come back just for the food.
I did rate good for vegetarians: While the selections are not extensive, we did have several vegetarian things that were delicious. Unlike a lot of restaurants that just put a token risotto or pasta on, they come up with innovative vegetarian selections.
