Boka
Michelin starred Boka Restaurant has been a fixture in Chicago dining since 2003. In January 2014, Chef Lee Wolen joined as Executive Chef/Partner after the restaurant underwent a major renovation. Since his time at Boka, critics have taken notice. Phil Vettel of Chicago Tribune and Eater Chicago both named Lee as “2014 Chef of the Year.” Most recently, Lee was named 2015 “Chef of the Year." Boka’s food features contemporary, American cuisine, focusing on seasonality and sourcing as many local ingredients as possible.

My Fiancé and I were celebrating our anniversary and proposed at the restaurant. Servers we great, very attentive and even brought out complimentary champagne, chocolates, and printed the menu with the date and the occasion as a keepsake. We had a wonderful experience and everyone working is extremely knowledgeable about all the dishes and super attentive
we did the 6 course tasting. one dish was better than the next. professionally paced delicious but non pretentious menu. excellent
Anniversary dinner. We called for pre-arrangements and they were handled very well.
Food was pretty good. Staff was very nice. They provided some really nice gestures like a free dessert and a personalized copy of the menu. We were seated outside of the restaurant in the front and felt excluded from the ambience on the inside. Granted we did have to reschedule our reservation and this is probably why we had the seat we did. Inside of the restaurant has an impressive ambience.
Outstanding! We went for our first wedding anniversary and the chef tasting menu was out of this world!
One of the best restaurants in Chicago and beyond. Consistent quality and service with courses that delight the palette a d the souls.
Everything was great!
My favorite in town !!! I visit every time I come up to see friends
Great fine dining! The interior design is very fascinating. Each courses is very creative and delicious. Service is pretty well too. Do a good job concerning COVID
Amazing food and service, while observing pandemic safety protocols.
Outdoor dining.
We went here as our last supper before the latest COVID shut down and to celebrate my husband and his law partner buying their law firm. Boka did not disappoint! We all ordered the 5 course tasting menu with drink pairings. It was truly amazing and my husband and I had trouble deciding what our favorite course was. The first course with uni and smoked trout roe was delicious and was paired with a local cider, which was unexpected yet perfect. My other favorite was the dry aged duck with salted peppercorns paired with a grenache blend from Chateauneuf-du-Pape. However, the black bass with cauliflower and paired with a white rioja was delightful too! Each course was magical, especially the pre-dessert that technically made the dinner 6 courses. The servers were amazing and knowledgeable about each course and the drink pairings. One might expect the atmosphere of a restaurant on this level to be stuffy but it was not. There were couples as well as groups of people clearly enjoying themselves and having a good time.
Outstanding food and service. Felt very safe dining at boka.
Wait staff very attentive, explained our choices exquisitely!
Amazing!! The staff was so friendly/helpful and all COVID guidelines were strictly followed making for a wonderful/safe experience.
Didn’t like our steak at all, it tasted very strange and gamey. Service was slow but okay. The waiter kept walking away so fast before we could ask questions so everything just took forever. I wouldn’t go back.
Did the tasting menu- overall it was meh.
All courses were delicious. Service was good but not Michelin star good. Expected better explanations/descriptions for tasting menu courses. We had to pour our own wine several times. Hoped for a more interactive engaging experience for a chef’s tasting menu. Given COVID restrictions, we were pleased they were open and thought they probably did the best they could.
My friend and I had an excellent night at Boka celebrating her birthday. It was my third time there and I have never been disappointed. I absolutely plan to return.
WOW!! Delicious! We had the 5-course tasting menu. Phenomenal!
Amazing, we did the tasting menu with reserve pairing, best option. Service outstanding
Went to Boka to celebrate a milestone anniversary. We had the tasting menu which was wonderful. The service was amazing! We will definitely be back.
We had the 5 course tasting menu.
The Uni cream did not have enough Uni flavor. A lot of cream, needed something to absorb the heaviness of it all.
Raw fish was really good. Toasted quinoa add nice texture to it. The tomato broth really brought it together well.
Black sea bass was extremely good. The squash was cooked very well and the cauliflower purée was excellent, especially with the small balls of lime flavor.
New York strip was very flavorful and tender. The brown mousse like thing wasn’t really needed and took away from the dish as it masked the beefy flavor of the steak
Grape dessert was very refreshing and not too sweet. Cheese cream was the star. Would’ve liked a little more of a crunchy component besides the meringue or even more of the meringue itself
Chocolate dessert was really decadent with a slight bitterness. The added lime flavorful brought a nice contrast to the chocolate
Amazing service, food, and overall experience! Wine parings were spot on
We had prebooked the table on the terrace next to the Patio door. I had confirmed it on the Thursday before, and again on Saturday when I changed our reservation. I was told it was written into our reservation and it was still available.
We were seated a few tables from the patio door instead of what we had confirmed. Didn't want to ruin the evening and make a fuss but this is not ok.
We all had the tasting menu. The sizes were a bit small, which left the males at the table wanting more. They added an extra dish before deserts, and also had a late night snack at home.
Every dish were beautifully presented and very tasty. Started off with sea urchin served with smoked trout roe, which lifted this dish to something outstanding. Then shima aji with a tomato broth. This was probably my favorite of the evening, because the salt and the sourness just balanced perfectly. Then we had a poached black bass that was cooked to perfection, served with cauliflower pure and the perfect butter based sauce with hints of lime. Our main course was a bit disappointing. The NY Strip Steak was accompanied by a few chanterelles, gem lettuce and corned tongue. The latter was delicious but the entire dish was disappointingly cold and on the saltier side. Now all the males in the family felt that they were far from full and they ordered the beef tartare as well. It was presented beautifully but they all said it was too sweet and that the sweetness overpowered the beef. The first desert was a concord grape coconut dish. It was probably the best desert I have had for a very long time. The main desert was a fudge sorbet with a lime foam. Also extremely well executed and delicious balance of sweet and sour.
We ended the dinner with amazing pineapple truffle and marshmellow sweets.
The wine tastings were as always at Boka perfect and interesting. Love that we are always introduced to new wines. Service was as good as always, and Boka went out of the way to take Covid precautions serious. Kudos!

Service was impeccable but all four in our party felt that the food was lacking. The tomato salad and beets were good but we all felt like something was missing. The octopus was ok as were the dumplings. The chicken and skirt steak were again tasty, but portions were small and for the price, underwhelming. Desserts were definitely the stars of the evening.
Great food with great service.
Overall this was a lovely experience! It was my girlfriend's birthday and we were only in Chicago for the weekend, very happy with the restaurant choice. The place was absolutely gorgeous, the service was good and the food was excellent! My only real complaint was the bill, I know it's fine dining but it was very expensive (we ordered the 5-course tasting menu with the drink pairings).
Best restaurant I have ever been. Great good, superb atmosphere. Will come back soon!
One of Chicago's best restaurants lives up to Lee Wolen's genius. Dined on the outdoor patio on a chilly night so we had it to ourselves. Heat lamp kept us cozy. The whole duck for two was nicely deconstructed and the confit melted in your mouth.
Food was delicious, service was very good however some other guests were really loud and using inappropriate language as well as cursing out loud. nobody from the staff members or manager talked to them about this disturbing behavior.
Halibut had to be returned twice, luke warm and fishy. Not Bokas best performance.
Fine except our server mis-informed us about medium and medium rare for our steaks. Pink or rare? They were too rare. I ate mine but one of the other people couldn’t eat his rare/red steak. So the rest of us ate while the individual just sat there, we were almost done when his meal finally came. Our server was very apologetic but it kind of ruined our dinner. And at the prices we paid we expected more.
First time dining out, Augustus was amazing. Food was super good, and really had such a nice time. Thank you!
The service was amazing and the food was even better. I did the food and wine tasting menu and it was perfectly served and the right amount of time between courses. I love the little breads to go too. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
Wish there were more vegetarian options
Boka is always sublime & in the middle of a pandemic it is an oasis of pleasure. We wanted multiple courses & our exemplary server was kind enough to suggest a better order based on his knowledge of what was coming. We began with the clean but complex aji, followed by a generous portion of perfectly slow-cooked halibut rich with uni. Next came our pasta course of the pillowy ricotta dumplings, which were a bit too cool but so delicious that we gobbled them up. Rich sweetbreads followed, a savory first-time treat for my dinner companion. Duck was the main course, fulsome with crispy skin & we had to take some home because it was all so over-the-top & fulsome & we wanted to save room for dessert. Our server was attentive without being overbearing & unobtrusively enforced the masking rules, which was appreciated. The whole experience took me back to an anniversary dinner I had with my beloved late husband in the early days of Boka during which we ordered the many appetizers, coursing them out for a prolonged & sensuous dinner. We must all do our best to keep treasures like Boka alive in these challenging times!
This is one of our favorite spots for a special occasion. The food is always amazing and the service is beyond compare. We also felt very safe with the Covid measures.
Boka is always a solid perfect choice. The practice of safe dining during COVID was reassuring. The experience was all we hoped and expected from Boka. Augustas took great care of us.
