Michelin starred Boka Restaurant has been a fixture in Chicago dining since 2003. In January 2014, Chef Lee Wolen joined as Executive Chef/Partner after the restaurant underwent a major renovation. Since his time at Boka, critics have taken notice. Phil Vettel of Chicago Tribune and Eater Chicago both named Lee as “2014 Chef of the Year.” Most recently, Lee was named 2015 “Chef of the Year." Boka’s food features contemporary, American cuisine, focusing on seasonality and sourcing as many local ingredients as possible.

What Insiders Are Saying
Boka serves fancy contemporary American food, but it still manages to be cool and fun despite being nice and expensive.
Went there for my husbands birthday and we tried out the tasting menu. If you like to try out different foods this is definitely the choice for you! Tons of unique flavors that went very well together. The food and service were great! Waitress very knowledgeable about everything on the menu! Great experience definitely recommend
Great Place ! Coming back for sure ... Te food and service where amazing !
Had one of the best meals of my life. Staff was very knowledgeable about drinks, wine, food and much more. Ambiance was amazing. Can’t wait to go back again
This was a perfect experience. Thank you to the team who helped us in the evening.
Today was my fiancée’s birthday so I wanted to find some place special for her and after a quick search, found Boka. I mentioned in the reservation that she had dietary restrictions with gluten and came expecting an amazing dinner experience and that’s what we found. We opted for creative cocktails and the tasting menu. Bottom line, one of the best meals I have ever had. Thank you for everyone making tonight special!
Too much green foam. Tasting menu lacks substance. Service was great. The instrument to serve the wine pairings by the glass with each course malfunctioned repeatedly which was a disappointment.
Excellent restaurant with a beautiful atmosphere. Great for a romantic dinner for two or for a small gathering of firends.
The food and service were great, but a little bit noisy for high level restaurant
Boka is a great restaurant, very reliable and easy to order. The service is gracious and friendly. They can struggle with timing between courses, but if you are with friends that time can pass comfortably.
Great ambience, staff, service and food. We were treated with wishes and pampered with complimentary dishes on our anniversary celebration. Grate food. The only suggestion I would give is to may be add few more options in appetizers.
Such an amazing restaurant all around! Every time I have been here everything has been spot on! We'll be back!
The tasting menu was an absolutely phenomenal experience and the service was exceptional. Highly recommended.
We had the tasting menu and it really was fantastic. Our server Emily was great. There was wonderful pacing and great explanations about each dish I recommend Boka highly
My husband and I dine all around the world and this was the best meal we have ever had in a restaurant. The food was fresh, innovative and delicious. Jack was the navigator of our meal and we could not appreciate him more. We will dine here every time we come to Chicago and maybe even come for just that reason.
The chicken and the short rib and the dumplings - to die for!
Boka always delivers incredible food, drinks, and service, and this visit was as wonderful add always!
All around brilliant! Would highly recommend Boka to anyone.
Over-priced for food quality. Service from folks who seem to feel they are not made for waiting table.
I thought Boka was unnecessarily pretentious it ways it didn’t need to be.
Everything from the food and the service was amazing. It was the perfect place to celebrate a birthday - so many details were accounted for
Excellent experience with great food. Enjoyed the service and ambience. Menu options limited interesting and quality of servings very good.
Great. Incredible place and food
Delicious food. Great cocktails. Excellent service. What more could you ask for?!
This was our first visit and it lived up to our high expectations. Outstanding meal, ambiance, service by everyone, from resrvation to reception to table-side. My guests said it was the best meal they had ever had. Duck was to die for. Spare ribs an innovative take on a trad dish--guest loved it (as did I with one forkful).. Sea bass flavors emerged with gusto. Only disappointment: my halibut was "just ok." Fish lacked the sweetness I expect, the mushroom (I think) reduction was flavorful but mild--it seemed to do little to complement the fish. It arrived at a barely warm temperature that made me thiink it had sat under a heat lamp a shade too long. Clearly I ordered the wrong thing, Starters and deserts were top notch. Will come back in August for our 50th anniversary.
Outstanding food and service. A great experience - probably the best roasted duck I have ever tried - crispy breast & skin and a separate dish of sautéed leg meat. My wife loved her Halibut - very flakey and moist. We shared the grilled Spanish octopus as an appetizer. All were fantastic. The service was excellent - Augustus provided great recommendations on wine pairings. The drinks were good, we stopped at the bar and had One Hour Photo (bourbon) and Alpaca my Bags (Tequila) - only blemish for the evening was a somewhat surly bartender. She was the only one who wasn't charming. A must-stop if you are in Chicago. Combine it with a trip to Second City for some great comedy.
Perfect dinner. Tasting menu was great.
My wife and I did the tasting menu, which was amazing, and Boka was very accommodating about the request for no raw food on one of them. We did the wine pairing, and though we're no experts, definitely liked the wines that were chosen, including a couple of surprises. Service was excellent. Would definitely recommend!
A diverse wine list, including some great German and Austrian wines, food nicely presented, attentive wait staff
Great ambiance, spectacular appetizers and wonderful main dishes.
The best restaurant I’ve ever been to & I’ve been to some fine restaurants including La Tour D’Argent in Paris. Boka has it all - it’s beautiful, staff is attentive, knowledgeable & friendly, the food is so amazing.
Tasting menu is a must and the standard wine pairing package was perfect!
It was for a birthday celebration. We had a nice oval table which helped our conversation because it was a bit loud in the dining room. The service was good, it was almost too intrusive. I felt it could have been done more gracefully and discreetly. It times, the presentation of food and the removal of emptied dishes interrupted our ability to converse around that activity.
Overall, it was a lovely evening. Thank you!
Everything was top notch but the food just didn’t fit my tasting but it could be very good to most!
Perfect, unfussy food. Perfect, unfussy service. Chicago dining is the best for these reasons and this is some of the best of Chicago dining.
We chose Boka because it was close to Steppenwolf. It was our last dinner of a weeklong visit. It was also the best - by far. Fabulous from start to finish. The garden room is lovely. The food amazing. We will go again when next in Chicago.
Almost everything was wonderful. The staff were helpful polite and well trained in service. Our waiter was personable and knowledgeable. The food was amazing, we did the tasting menu, and they easily accommodated allergies. The size of s glass of wine was small, though they had varied selection. The music was a bit loud and the genre seemed to not mesh well with the ambiance. Overall a wonderful experience
On our first trip to Chicago we went to Boka for dinner after Googling “best restaurants in Chicago”. We were impressed with the menu and saw that they have a Michelin Star and James Beard Award.
We were greeted by a friendly hostess at the door who checked our coats and sat us at our table. Everyone who works at the restaurant is so friendly, helpful, and polite.
They brought out an amuse-bouche to start (it was a mix of tahini and yogurt or ricotta with Meyer lemon and a crispy chip) followed by our appetizers and entrees. We ordered marinated spring artichokes, ricotta dumplings, olive oil poached halibut and roasted chicken.
My husband and I split everything and they were kind enough to split the dishes up except the chicken before bringing them out to us.
Please check out my pictures as the meal was beautifully presented and tasted as amazing as it looks.
Without a doubt I will be returning to Boka on my next trip to Chicago!
One of the best meal’s I’ve ever eaten. The Ricotta Dumplings, Spanish Octopus & Hazelnut Dessert are a must.
Overall experience was good, but not a big fan of the food
