Michelin starred Boka Restaurant has been a fixture in Chicago dining since 2003. In January 2014, Chef Lee Wolen joined as Executive Chef/Partner after the restaurant underwent a major renovation. Since his time at Boka, critics have taken notice. Phil Vettel of Chicago Tribune and Eater Chicago both named Lee as “2014 Chef of the Year.” Most recently, Lee was named 2015 “Chef of the Year." Boka’s food features contemporary, American cuisine, focusing on seasonality and sourcing as many local ingredients as possible.

Food was excellent and seasonal with every element of each plate well conceptualized. Wine recommendations by the glass were also top-notch. Our waiter went out of his way to select pairings for our meal, even pulling wines that weren't on the by-the-glass menu. The food and service were great, and the patio was lovely and quiet.

My wife and I went there as a celebration of our end to a year long avoidance of public places. We had the chef's tasting menu which was a presentation of several courses. The food was imaginative, fresh and well executed. We also got the reserve wine pairing which was full of unusual and imaginative wines that fit the courses beautifully. The staff was friendly and informative. The service was great. Given the quality of the experience, it was well worth it. However the cost was considerable, about 800 with tax, tip and covid surcharge for the two of us. Choosing the regular wine pairing would save 200 and combining further savings from ordering from the menu rather than the Chef's tasting would bring the down the cost by at least half. Even so the wonderful food, staff and environment will bring me back again even if I chose to be less extravagant.

Boka has become a place of celebrations for my husband and I do it only made sense that this would be our first in-restaurant dining experience post-COVID. We went for the full tasting experience and loved every course. We also tried several cocktails which were all outstanding. One of my favorite parts about the Boka experience is always the staff. They are always so nice and super helpful while we navigate the menus and I felt very safe with their COVID precautions that were in place. As always, can’t wait for my next visit!

We were very disappointed. We are writing negative reviews very very seldom. In summary, if we have everything the sane in a non Michelin star restaurant, no special awards, we were not writing anything, simply just wouldn’t come back.
The hostess escorted us to our table, it was outside in the backyard.
It was real cold - not their fault. The heating around the table wasn’t turned on for about 12 minutes. We were sitting their and waiting for the waitress to show up, about 7 minutes. The hostess realized how cold it is outside, she made zero effort to get someone to turn the heating on- quite rude, she needs more training in hospitality.
The rest of the service ok, nothing special. The description of the food was rushed through, impersonal boring presentation.
The ambiance of the little backyard is definitely not Michelin star,we think the inspector would have passed out. Dead flowers from last year in the flower beds, unkept surrounding, uncomfortable chairs etc, it is really a shame- good for a pizzeria visited by students -
The wine menu was ok, interesting wines, reasonable pricing, no problem.
The food - the appetizers- shaved foie gras - tasted like unseasoned duck fat. The octopus was simple boring, not much flavor. The main dish - duck for two - the confit part was probably the best part of the dinner, the breast was cooked nicely, no fat under the skin, same temperature all through, but again, the flavor was absolutely not exciting.
The deserts - the hazelnut was extremely sweet, it was hard to enjoy. The rhubarb- the fruit itself was nicely made as the icecream but the panna cotta was tasteless with not so pleasant texture.
We won’t return. The place was our biggest disappointment in a Michelin star level- we were wondering how did they get all this awards.

We did the chef's tasting menu with the wine pairing. At this price point, I do expect the food to be not over- or under-salted, I do expect the dish to arrive with the intended food pairing (not 10 minutes later), and I do expect the offered serrated knife to have a sharp blade.

The experience itself was amazing - our server, Kale, was so knowledgeable, the ambiance was beautiful, the food was creative. I would definitely go back: Next time, I would forgo the tasting menu with wine pairing and stick to the appetizers and the wine list.

We had a lovely time celebrating our ability to begin indoor dining again after COVID vaccinations. Our server, Augustus, was fantastic--extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The food was incredible and the setting was beautiful. We can't wait to return for our next special occasion.

A stuffy room. Didn’t feel welcomed to be frank. Got told when to order and didn’t have much time to go at our pace. Great restaurant for the food. Incredibly tasteful dishes. Not much for the experience.

We were disappointed by the service quality. When we arrived a few minutes late, we were very impolitely informed that we had to be out of there by a certain time. This was especially insulting after we waited over 30 minutes for our table the last time we visited Boka earlier this year. Our table service was also a little off, with drinks and dishes being delivered to the wrong people at our table of four, and at one point a drink was completely forgotten (the server apologized and comped us that drink, which was nice). The food was fantastic, though, and the service did improve overall. We will be back, but this visit did not fully meet the service level we have come to expect from Boka.

Food, service, atmosphere excellent. Covid regimen a bit over the top. Never had to take mask on and off in other restaurants. Usually once food is ordered, mask is off until after dessert.

We loved our Boka experience — the staff was incredibly helpful and attentive, the food was phenomenal, and the ambiance was great. The duck was mouthwateringly delicious, and the wine selection is fantastic. I highly recommend.

Absolutely delicious. The outdoor patio is very comfortable.
Steak Tartare was one of the most delicious and unexpected tastes... Have to get.
The only disappointment was that the dessert menu did not excite us, but we had decided to order additional appetizers -- and each was truly incredible. Can't wait till we are back in Chicago to go again.

Food was ok. First dish was literally just one bite which is disproportionate to the price. Third dish was basically just asparagus. Not worth the money, when though the atmosphere and service was great. Waiters could use a bit more training on the dishes as some of them couldn't tell which fish was served in the plate put in front of us, etc.
