Worst meal I ever had. The food had no taste at all. We may as well have not eaten anything. And service was non-existent. We never even saw our server. There was not even a host to greet us. We have no idea how this restaurant stays in business.
The worst restaurant in downtown Chicago!
The menu has 4 entrees and ran out of two on a Saturday night at 8:30pm. We ordered a bunch of appetizers that had no taste and bland. The only entrees that were left on menu were horrible in taste. Wine selection was also extremely week. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this restaurant and needs a major make over for their menu otherwise it needs to SHUTT DOWN IMMEDIATELY.
This restaurant has gone downhill. We used to love the food but service and food were very disappointing this time. They ran out of the dish that several of us ordered (out of a very limited selection) and just threw down new menus and asked us to choose something else. Food took forever despite us being seated right by the kitchen. There were no options on the menu for one of my friends who is vegetarian and the waiter was not helpful in providing suggestions. Food was lukewarm when it arrived.
Ultimately we had a fine experience, but the evening had a rough start. I booked a specific day because an email from the restaurant’s mailing list promised a special Bohemia menu that night. (I am of Bohemian descent.) When we arrived we realized that special menu had been changed to the following night and we learned the correction had been made on the website but no corrected email had been sent. The Chef came to our table and offered us the entree planned for the next night. We ordered it and it was delicious. Bottom line: keep your chef but fire your communications people!
We enjoyed our casual lunch, but wondered if the service was always a bit slow. Food was delicious and we loved the interior setting.
Fun evening with friends and great food and drinks.
Over priced .... schnitzel, their signature dish was quite dry
Wait staff very attentive and helpful with food and drink choices
GreAt Czech beer
Authentic and delicious Eastern European food
Pastries were outstanding
Please return the previous chef! Food was awful. Menu was changed and reduced and now it is not European/German kitchen. We were so disappointed. Last time visited November 2017 and experience was very positive but not this time. As previous reviewers said I agree food is mediocre. Only one positive moment-beer was fresh.
Wonderful choice of beer selection! Food is different, be open to be taste.
I'll be back.
I LOVE THIS PLACE. The food was absolutely amazing. The waitress was super personable. We didn't have any drinks, but OMG.. THE FOOD! This place is underrated. Definitely coming back for brunch, special occasions, or even for fun.
Nice ambiance, traditional dishes, excellent service. Menu strikes a good balance of having enough selection without overwhelming the guest with choices. Perfect portion sizes served quickly. Will be going back.
The food was very good and the server was pleasant and efficient. The busser kind of hovered and took one plate before we were both finished. Good beer list. The menu is limited and expensive 4 places serving this food. The dumplings are small and not light. Cucumber salad was excellent. A pleasant experience overall.
I don’t really know what has happened since the new executive chef has taken over. All of the food has become self-consciously fancy, but it lacks all of the quality and form that would make it any good. Universally, everything tastes worse than it did before the changeover. Who pre-cuts sausage and then places a dollop of sour cream on each medallion, situated around chucks of cold Gouda and lukewarm sauerkraut? The cold cream cools the sausage and makes the whole thing gross to eat. It doesn’t even make sense conceptually: would you pre-slice a filet mignon? Some foods you can assume your customer knows how to navigate. The appetizers too were either flavorless as compared to the old version, or simply shallow and tasteless. I’m extremely shocked that something so good could fall so fast.
The food was amazing and the service exceeded expectations! Would definitely recommend eating here.
Delicious Central European food. Chicken and sausage platter were two large portion entrees receiving high marks. Pretzel bread was outstanding; don't miss it. Skip appetizers.
My husband and I liked it but it has a limited menu for vegetarians.
Very nice and different....
Would be good to have some kids choices.
We enjoyed the most langos, schnitzel and Czech beer. Food was tasty and authentic.
The restaurant had very interesting menu items. The roasted beet and goat cheese salad was superb. The only negative was that the menu was rather limited in choices for entrees, making it harder for a less adventurous diner to find something to choose.
Best chicken paprikash I've ever had in my life. Bar none.
Server was friendly and informative. Food was unique and unlike anything I've had at other Chicago restaurants, and I mean that in a good way. Menu is always changing, so that's a good reason to return. Decor and cocktails were superb.
The new menu that they call more accessible, is very disappointing. The restaurant became generic with the boring beet salad, tomato soup and slider to offer. The authentic Hungarian langos became Slovakian as two small portions with tomato sauce and the chicken paprikas has now a smokey flavor. I atmosphere is still cool, but I used to come here for the delicious and unique food. Not anymore.
Saw good reviews for restaurant so we thought we would give it a try while staying in Chicago. BIG mistake! Food was mediocre and not cheap.
Nice beer selection and almost authentic European taste. Unfortunately, I had two very different experiences: heavenly and a-ok. I look forward to the return of heavenly.
Everything was great and the small plates were fantastic. My only constructive feedback is with regard to the Schnitzel. My business partner and I both thought that it was dry, otherwise I would have given 4 or 5 stars for the foot.
The food was fantastic. Would definitely come back.
Outstanding! Delicious! Excellent! We will be back!!!
Manny took such great care of us! Our server was also knowledgeable and kind. Definitely a nice quiet spot from the craziness that is River North. Bring your date or bring you friends...great share style menu. Thanks Manny!
Loved it! Can’t wait to come back.
The food was full of flavor that you will not find at a bar type restaurant.
Disappointed. Friends had recommended BoHo but doubt I’ll go back again since the food and service are just fair. Maybe evening scene is more lively.
We had a great time, in a booth, and everyone tried different beers and cocktails that were delicious. Fish plate was really excellent. All out entrees were terrific. Service was smooth and friendly. I'd definitely go back and recommend Bohemian House to anyone.
My big issue with BoHo is that it's really hard to eat heavy food in an environment that's dark and overly loud. I'd go more often if they turned down the music and brought up the lights a bit. No one should have to use a flashlight to read a menu in a restaurant, that is the litmus test for TOO DARK. Also, the portions are really too big - the small plates need to be smaller and less pricey.
We were in Chicago for mini weekend getaway. We celebrated my son’s and husband’s birthdays. What a great experience. Our waitress was amazing and so thoughtful and accommodating. The food is out of this world. Interior decoration is gorgeous. We had a wonderful evening
Pretty presentation but flavors were not my favorite. Good drinks though
Waitress was not attentive but food was awesome
Absolutely loved the selection of the fish and charcuterie board.
tasty Bohemian beer flight, pork schnitzel slightly undersalted, homemade beef cheek pierogies "tastes authentic", good cocktail (infused fashion). Great ambiance.
Charming place for brunch, excellent good, enjoy the combinations. The mimisos are quite tasty.
