    The food was fantastic! The gnocchi melted in your mouth. The bolognese was just like my mama made! To top it off, the waiters were great and the owner was a hoot! He was so engaging and fun to talk to. All Italian and just a very fun atmosphere! Highly recommend it!

    I recently had the pleasure of hosting a small group of guests at Bocconcino in North Beach, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Rosario, the owner, whose gracious hospitality made us feel like part of the family. His presence throughout the evening brought a personal touch that elevated the entire dining experience. Our server, Antonio, deserves special mention, his professionalism, attentiveness, and expert knowledge of the menu truly set him apart. Without exaggeration, he may well be one of the finest waiters in San Francisco. We began our meal with the crostini di prosciutto e formaggio, which were a perfect balance of savory and crisp, a delightful start. Soon after, we noticed a stunning pasta dish being served at a nearby table. Intrigued, we inquired and learned it was the special pasta of the night, dubbed the "Roma" by Rosario. While he kept the exact ingredients under wraps, he described it as a fusion of carbonara and meat rigatoni, a unique and unforgettable creation. It was, without question, one of the best pasta dishes any of us had ever tasted. We followed with a beautifully prepared Caesar salad and a fresh, vibrant insalata mista, both of which showcased the quality of the ingredients and the kitchen's attention to detail. For the main course, I enjoyed a perfectly cooked red snapper served over creamy mashed potatoes, a dish that was as visually appealing as it was flavorful. My guests sampled a range of entrées, including the eggplant parmigiana, the risotto ai frutti di mare, and the rigatoni alla bolognese. Each dish was expertly executed and received high praise for its authenticity and depth of flavor. We paired our meal with an excellent bottle of Barolo, which complemented every course beautifully. For dessert, we shared three delightful selections: a lemon torte, vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup, and a delicate white dolce cake, all outstanding.

    Not sure why this small, congested place has so many good reviews, but my wife and I found it to be quite mediocre. We've eaten at Italian restaurants all over the USA and abroad -- including Italy -- and I cook Southern Italian dishes at home frequently. So we know the differences between really good and just plain okay. We both started with Caesar salads, and the disappointment started. (Actually, it began the moment our server said they had only two beers -- a generic blonde and a generic amber, both on draft. I chose the amber, and it wasn't very cold or flavorful.) The Caesar dressing was rather bland. In fact, Ken's Caesar Lite that I often use at home is far zestier. My wife chose pesto ravioli as her entrée, and she thought it was decent but relatively weak. I tasted it and agreed. My entrée, spaghetti with clams in a white wine sauce, was even less enjoyable. The clams were somewhat soft, nearly mushy -- seemingly overcooked. And the sauce, which I've made myself, should have been full of garlic and olive oil along with the wine. But it was devoid of any hint of garlic or any other robust flavor for that matter. Bocconcino suffered from other deficiencies as well, although those are minor in comparison with the food. Service was routine, though uninspired. The crusty Italian bread was fine, but the mix of olive oil and balsamic vinegar served with the bread made me long for the herbs that Carrabba's uses. Finally, the ambiance reminded me of any tiny Little Italy spot in NYC or Baltimore or Philly where the tables are too close together, the decibel level is off the charts, and the staff are scurrying around trying their best to keep all the patrons happy. Too bad the front of house workers aren't helping out in the kitchen where they're probably needed even more.

    Bocconcino (Little Bite) is a fantastic and delicious Italian restaurant on Green Street in San Francisco next Golden Boy Pizza, Sotto Mare, Cafe Sport and many more along that street in North Beach. The food was excellent and the ambience is quiet and perfect. The service is excellent and the staff will answer all your questions. We will definitely return soon.

    Absolutely delicious, really cool decor, laid back local feel. We enjoyed everything about this place from the location to the vibe and, most especially, the food. Linguine with clams was fresh and to die for. Ribeye cooked perfectly. Three of us shared tiramisu, chocolate mascarpone cake, and crème brûlée for dessert - all yummy and complemented with a perfect cappuccino. On this night it may have been a little louder than usual because of street construction that literally vibrated the floor, but somehow it just added to the ambiance. :)

    Wonderful food, concentrating on true Tuscan style cooking!! Very friendly atmosphere and charming owners and waitstaff. Highly recommend!!

    We sat down at 6:45 and our food was served by 7:14- which was honestly pretty impressive how fast they had it out. They put the check down before we even finished our dessert. basically, if you want to sit and enjoy a meal this is not the place. although the good was yummy! Just hard to enjoy the yummy food when they are basically rushing you through the whole meal.
