Travis is amazing! Wonderful place to celebrate life with the best food and service!
Wonderful dinner! Thank you Tom.
Great food and service.
Celebrated my daughter’s graduation there - it was perfect!
Our dinner experience was a complicated mix of wonderful, meh and miserable. Context: There were five of us; my husband and I, our daughter and in-laws for husband's UAB graduation. At RSVP confirm call I pre-ordered about $80 (including 20% tip) worth of surprise desserts, with specific allergy requirements - no nuts on certain items, no alcohol in the desserts, etc. We arrived and were sat in a lovely outside area. To start off, a piece of foccacia bread my daughter got had a cured hair baked into one piece. She showed us and that was the end of eating the bread. So moving onto ordering- Appetizers were ok, (at about $70). My husband and mother-in-law both order the Eggplant Lasagna ($24 each) , both came out warm, (at best). It is only impressive in size. Basically a 3 layered luke warm lengthwise sliced breaded eggplant parmesan. My mother-in-law got hers first with enough sauce and husband's came out later with less than half the marinara on his. Both were obvious warms up, not freshly made, and had the last scoops of sauce scraped from the bowl. Very disappointing. He only ate a few bites. The server did not even consider recognizing there was a problem, nor did he offer to take one off the bill. Although, he seem apologetic only because the 2nd one came late. In our family at home or paying more than $350 dinner meals out, we do not "start" staggered. We like to eat together. So, we all ate warm food. I was a server for years, the server knew at least something about what he was serving and the timing of it was less than mediocre. Another disappointment. On the wonderful side, even though a bit warm, my halibut ($32) was cooked perfectly as well as the scallops & risotto ($32) & the seafood zuppa ($28). It was a while from the server taking the plates of uneaten food to our pre-ordered "surprise" desserts. Which all came, with and announcement of who sent them - all with nuts, and alcohols and liqueur. Ugh! We won't return.
Excellent wine list
Waited a year to for in-person dinning at Tom Wolf's second GREAT restaurant. Travis was a personal waiter that contributed to a wonderful evening. Bistro 218 is my favorite place, but this one.....will have to keep testing both for an eventual winner! Despite the acoustic tiles still a little loud for us hard of hearing folks although they did turn down the music for us (thanks!). Wonderful food, wonderful presentation. Will be back.
First time at this fabulous restaurant! Will definitely recommend it to my friends.
Where do I begin? Most books start with the preface, right? The staff at the front of the house was very friendly and showed us right to our table which was one of the most requested tables. Being our first-time at Bocca, this was a pleasant bonus. The restaurant smelled amazing, and I knew right away dinner was going to be nothing shy of amazing! Our server, Richard, greeted us promptly and was very attentive throughout our 2.5-hour dining experience. He was extremely helpful in pointing out the awesome features and proudly shared with us all the house-made delights. Richard was not just a server rattling off specials. Talking with him throughout the evening, you could tell he was vested in the Bocca family, and with what the chef was preparing right down to the house-made cannoli shells, filling, and pistachio ice cream which, by the way, was a nice touch. That connection between waitstaff and restaurant is not something you see much these days. Now for the main event - food and wine. We started off our gastronomic adventure with the Tagliatelle il Coniglio. Oh, my goodness, what a light and tasty combination paired with the Ferghettina Brut. For our mains, we had the Pan Seared Atlantic Halibut and Gulf Shrimp Scampi paired with the Carpineto Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano Reserva. Of course, dessert was the wonderful house-made cannoli paired with Vinsanto. So, how did we choose the wonderful wines to enjoy? A huge “thank you” goes to the sommelier, Carlos Cisneros. Even for those of us who think we know our wines; you need Carlos. He is charismatic, knows Italian wines, and is passionate about Bocca, life, family, food and wine. This is a perfect storm when it comes to a restaurant. How do I know? My New England family has been in the restaurant and catering business for 30+ years. Bottom line…do not miss an opportunity to dine at Bocca and get to know the phenomenal staff that makes Bocca so special.
Amazing!!! We sat in the outdoor seating and it was wonderful. Really felt like you were in a European cafe. Service was excellent and food was great!
Fabulous atmosphere on the patio! You forget you are sitting in downtown Birmingham! Great food and service as well.
Felt so good to be out....hope abounds! Food, service, and atmosphere excellent!! Will go back-highly recommend!
Excellent dining experience. Everything was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend.
Great service and delicious food!
Bocca is likely the best italian food downtown and would be in the conversation for best Italian in the city. We had a great meal and a bottle of wine. We will gladly go back soon.
Lovely meal, excellent service. Will definitely return.
Perfectly paced, delicious meal! Everything was excellent from the food, service, and ambiance. It was a great place to celebrate our anniversary and we will definitely be back!
Food was incredible and our service by Daniel was excellent. Would recommend for any special occasion or a night out for some great food in a beautiful setting.
Food was very good, but probably won’t go back. Dessert took forever, and they apologized a couple of times. Most restaurants take that off the tab or bring you another espresso.
A very good addition to our downtown restaurant options. Seated in the window and separated from the main dining room, it was not possible to assess the overall dining experience. Food quality, flavor, presentation and portions were all above expectations.
Bocca is quickly becoming my new favorite restaurant! Each time I've been there, my experience has been perfect! The food is outstanding, and the servers are knowledgeable professionals that help guide your dining experience to perfection.
This was an excellent choice for dinner! It was my wife’s birthday and it lived up to the reviews! Travis was the waiter and to excellent care of us!
This moved to one of my top 3 places in Birmingham to eat! Excellent job Bocca
Delicious as always. First time to eat in the courtyard. Was delightful!
Every course was delicious. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant. Service was a little slow. I would definitely return.
Joseph and Matthew and the entire team were so professional and helpful.
Everything was delicious and so pleasantly plated.
Travis is the best server in Birmingham.
This new northern Italian restaurant in Birmingham is excellent---truly a great find in the South. I travel often, to many cities in the US, and always seek out the best eating establishments. If you love Italian food,as I do, this is a " best" dining recommendation!
Richard was awesome and the food was superb.
An outstanding addition to the growing Birmingham restaurant community!
Wonderful food, drinks, ambiance
Excellent service and the food was amazing! Great atmosphere!
Service was horrible. Dinner for 4 took 3hrs. So unfortunate bc our first time there, the service was impeccable.
One of the best overall experiences we have had in a restaurant.
My first in house visit to Tom Saab's 'new" establishment since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. The precautions taken, including limiting tables, the large expanse of the restaurant, checking temperatures on arrival, etc., made for a comfortable experience. The food, as with that at Bistro 218, was OUTSTANDING. I'm looking forward to being able to visit again soon.
Always good food. Excellent wine and cocktail selections!
So amazing. The food was amazing, the drinks paired perfect, and the coffee cake desert ended the meal perfectly.
Excellent food and outstanding service. We will return soon.
Everything was absolutely perfect as always! Travis is incredible, anyone lucky enough to sit in his section is in for the perfect dining experience.
Service and food were both great. Our server was knowledgeable about the wine list and made good recommendations based on our entrees. Don’t pass up the doughnut for dessert! I
