About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Charming
  • Good for groups

Bocca Di Bacco is a New York City Restaurant Group establishment from dynamic restaurateur and New York native Robert Malta, who owns nearly a dozen restaurants throughout the city. “I’ve been in the business 25 years,” Malta says. “I opened the first Bocca Di Bacco in Hell’s Kitchen in 2007 and it quickly became a neighborhood favorite. The Chelsea location is an evolution of what we’ve been offering. There are new menu items, and a more refined look and feel, but it’s still a great spot for the neighborhood any night of the week.”

Pretty place. My experience in NYC is that there are so many places with good food AND good service, go elsewhere. Terrible service. Linguini con Vongole was awful. Soaked in olive oil, empty clam shells and the worst server anyone at our table had interacted with in many years. The waitress left the entree on the bill, we asked her to remove it and she said the manager was busy and he would have to do that. She returned & said, "well, you ate the clams" and that is how we make the linguini here! This server "Marian" attitude and service was so bad and we accidently left way too much tip. We asked for half and half and got a bowl of cream and male server was very sorry for his mistake.

We are far more familiar with its uptown siblings but the 20th Street Bocca is just as good. We had excellent service. I hope that it had more customers after we left, as it certainly deserves to be busy.

The food was as usual quite good. However our server left alot to be desired. I ordered a chicken pea appetizer and got a soup. A discussion ensued about his mistake. He took it away. I asked him to get the menu so I could point to what I wanted. He disappeared for a while. When I caught his attention to ask where it was, I understood from him it wasn't available. If I didn't ask, when was he going to tell me? I ended up finally with the zucchini fritti to start my dinner.

I’m not sure I’ve ever given such a poor review and I’m sorry to do so. But you can’t have such horrible level of service, food that lacked so much, in NYC out of all places. We were there on what felt like a quiet night and our waited just couldn’t care. We asked for recommendations, what’s popular, anything and he could barely respond. The pastas were pretty dry….only redeeming quality was the $55 wine bottle.

Good place for pasta and cocktails. Had the linguine with clams - very good. Lively place with bar area and dining room. Acoustics were not the best in the dining area as it was difficult to hear people talking. But overall, great diner with a large group.

I have been there several times in the past. I was a little disappointed last night. My first course was in eatable. It was octopus and they should know better. I sat at the bar and the bartender was very good. I’ll continue to go there but they should be more careful!
