Possibly the worst dining experience in Charlotte. Had a rez for 730. Finally sat us at 805. The food was atrocious. Of the 5 different entrees ordered by our 8 top, only 1 was even decent (fish and chips). The Pad Thai was flavorless and had 1 bites of chicken. The salmon may have been in a freezer for a month prior to prep. The appetizers were all swimming in butter and tasted of salt salt salt. So much so that they all tasted the same. Just an awful experience.
Like come out from a frozen box with great final fresh garnish, was terrible, drinks are A+
Birthday dinner for a long time friend. Never done before and wanted to try something new. The bocado burger and truffle fries were the BEST!! I highly recommend that and bang for your buck. The smoked carrot with horseradish mustard relish appetizers was recommended but I did not like it it was to string of horse radish flavor for me. They may have been understaffed and was a long wait for our food and drinks. So not on them just a busy day. The waiter did have to come and ask for what we ordered 3 different times and they are a tapas place so BE CAREFUL the waiter stated they can not “itemize orders” meaning their systems is no able to separate food orders. We were a table of four and gave us one check with everyone’s food and had to charge all our food on on friends card. We did not understand why our food items couldn’t have been placed on four different checks so we can pay for our respective meal. Ultimately we did not want to argue any further and venmoed our portion to our friend who’s card was charged for the entire meal. Over all there were up and downs but the burger is what saved the experience. I will visit the location to try their late night menu!
Food was great, having to split the check
Had a 6:30 reservation for 3 on a Friday night. It was very crowded (which we expected), so we waited at the bar until our table was ready. We didn’t end up getting seated until about 7:15. The staff was friendly but definitely seemed a bit overwhelmed. Drinks were great, food was pretty good for the price. Atmosphere/ ambiance was definitely the highlight. I would eat here again but wouldn’t wait 45 minutes on a weekend night.
Three items we tried to order from menu were unavailable. I understand supply chain challenges now … would be better if server could tell guests up front what is not available
Service was slow, not accurate, and language seemed to be a problem.
Eggs were undercooked (which is problematic) and not all items ordered came to table
Worst ever. Never tried the food since we walked out because no one came to our table for service; way too loud to even have a conversation with the people at our table. Talked with people at the next table and they were there 25 minutes before we sat down and they didn’t even have water brought to them…. The menu on-line was not the menu that we were given…. Hope they close soon
I made a OneTable reservation for 8:45PM on a Friday night. Upon arrival, there was no hostess seating parties and customers had to pull aside waiters to seat them. Some people just seated themselves. Others around us had reservations for 8:00PM and still had not been seated. After 20 minutes of being told someone was going to seat us, a waiter told us to seat ourselves at a dirty table we had to clean ourselves. After waiting awhile, nobody came by our table to even give us waters, so we decided to leave. We’ve been returning customers since the restaurant opened but won’t be returning after this experience. Very embarrassing especially since we were bringing a out of town guest and had bragged about the food.
We had reservations for 8:30 and from the moment we arrived it was clear that the administration was off. We were told several times that our table was being cleaned but after 45 min or so we decided to sit at the bar. We were not acknowledged by the greeter ever since. Bartender was great and the sinks were very good. We put our order right away. Waited for 1:15 minutes to get our food which was also good. I hope they get their administrative issues under control. While we were waiting we also looked at other options and noticed they still had open reservations spots open. It does look like they are overbooking and over extending the entire staff.
Very slow service! We had a reservation and it took 20 minutes to get seated and then 2 hours before receiving our dinner. The South End burger was good but they left off the grilled onions. Oyster appetizer was good, the deviled eggs were flavorless. Atomosphere was fun and the outdoor space is nice. If they work to improve their service and organization of the kitchen, it might turn into a good restaurant. In my opinion, they have a long way to go.
The burgers were great. The service was a little slow but it was busy.
No to drinks, food and service.
Unfortunately this was a second try at Bocado hoping for the best but was left highly disappointed with the service, bar knowledge and overall lack of awareness from start to finish. We asked for a French 75 and got gin mixed with some sparkling (not correct), asked for salt on the rim of a margarita which proved challenging (first one came without and we just let it slide, the second came without so asked for it to be corrected), and the last thing I’ll note is someone at our table ordered the grilled cheese but asked not to have one of the types of cheese and just replace it with extra of one of the other and then she asked to add a patty….the sandwich came without any cheese or patty, just pear and bread. At no point did management ask how our experience was or acknowledge the challenges.
Great food and service! The lamb bolognese was delicious! I’ll be back.
We had a very long wait (30 mins) after reservation our due to people not leaving, but that points to a good problem it's such a great place to enjoy. The staff was very attentive and always helpful, and made up for our wait time. We accidentally stayed after their closing time and not once did they make us feel rushed to leave. Thank you will come back!
absolute joke. host was not at stand. we arrived at 810 for an 815 reservation. host did not walk up to stand until 830. by this point there was a back up of ~10 people looking to speak to the host. When we told the host we were there for our reservation that was already 15 minutes in the past, he then told us we needed to wait. there was an empty table the entire time. asked host about table. was told it was spoken for. remained empty for another 10 minutes. Finally went next door to Oku which is an actual restaurant with decent humans working there.
Rude, cavalier, negligent attitude of host was truly bizarre. Also his outfit was tacky... is that a magenta smoking jacket? Complimented his corny mustache.
We had a group of 8 and we were all very impressed. The ambiance, the food, the service and the drinks were all perfect. Don’t pass on this place!
This restaurant was amazing. The food was extremely tasty and the cocktails were some of the best in Charlotte! The service was also impeccable. The host was extremely friendly and greeted us right away, we decided to eat at the bar because the bartender provided such great service as well. I can’t wait to go again, definitely a gem in Southend.
Johnny was great and tho the place was void of clients we were treated royally
Delicious food, great service, nice ambience, convenient location!
Terrible service / even with a staffing storage. Took over 30 min from seating to have someone come talk to us. Terrible.
Drinks were delicious - downhill from there. Took a long time to get waited on. Food was served cold. I had culotte steak and ordered medium. It was served well done. The mushrooms were overcooked and rubbery. My husband ordered the herbed french fries - no herbs. Won't return.
Waited an hour and a half and just gave up on most of our food. Ended up ordering pizza at home. We did get the Tuna tartare which was good. Shame we couldn’t get any
The food was excellent but they were a bit under staffed so the wait was long. Had reservations for 730 and didn’t get food until close to 9. That being said all of our food was delicious.
Even if you have a reservation, once you arrive they have a waiting list. Took an hour plus to get seated but never got a server and ordered from the bar. It’s really unorganized and messy. The only reason 1star is because they are so unorganized that you don’t really pay for anything because there’s no one that rings you up so whatever you order is on the house I guess ? But it was still very average dinning.
No enough staff, took very long to be seated even though we had a reservation and there were empty tables. Took awhile to get served, again because of not enough and unorganized staff. Staff was very nice though once available.
Cool decor. Food was very good. It was a little loud which made communication with our waitress and we each other difficult. Otherwise we had a great experience,
I ordered the Bocado Burger and it was cooked to perfection.
Waitress forgot to put our drinks in. All the entrees came out at different times, and by that I mean two people got served their entree, then the next two got served twenty minutes later, and then the final two got served 40 minutes after the first. All of that would have been fine had there been actual communication. When brought to managers attention he was dismissive and uninterested in helping. Given that we’re still dealing with COVID difficulties and everyone being short staffed, we would have been willing to give them a second shot had it not been for the rude manager and wait staff that was uninterested in communicating or remedying the experience. The fact that they didn’t even attempt to offer to comp something says it all. Saying “I’m sorry” or “I apologize” just once may have been able to remedy the situation, but that was apparently too much. Very disappointed.
The menu is very limited, as of August 28, 2021, and attributed to limited staffing. Service/ people could not be nicer about it and drinks were great
We were very surprised to only see 8 items on the menu, after checking it out online with a much larger menu. Then when we tried to order a bottle wine, they were out of everything! VERY limited menu currently. The server said it was from being short staffed. Bummer for them. The outside patio is nice on the lightrail - lots of people watching!
