Boca - Winter Park Ratings and Reviews
Food was absolutely delicious and such excellent value for the quality. I picked this place for lunch with my father because they had lots of gluten free options for me and more typical lunch items like sandwiches for him. The server was super sweet. She saw me eating one of my dads fries and warned me that it may not be gluten free because the fried is shared. So props to her for looking out! Lol. Would def recommend for lunch and I’d love to go for dinner for a date or special occasion.
The mushroom soup was out of this world! I got the chicken dish, the flavor was wonderful, though a tad too dry. The chimmichurri sauce helped. My business date wiped his whole plate of the bibb salad with chicken clean!
Our waitress was quite knowledgeable about the menu & when she didn't know an answer, she went and got it.
We were seated outside pretty promptly, but weren't greeted by a server or offered a beverage for at least 10 minutes. Placing the order went quickly after that, but that took about 40 minutes to come out - the person who delivered it to the table (not our server) apologized even before she put the plates down, and it was noted that it wasn't just our table that was delayed.
I reserved a table 2 months in advance for a celebration, sister's 23rd anniversary and my father's birthday and son's birthday. I scheduled in advance as well as left a message stating it was a "special" occasion...not only was it NOT special it was an awful experience. The restaurant was crowded and they sat us in the front in a tight 6 top and it was hot sitting there...but I knew it was busy and hoping service/food would make up for it...I was WRONG!
They did not greet our table for 15 minutes and there weren't enough glasses at the table for water so they went to get them did not come back for another 10. minutes, and didn't bring enough...gave water to everyone but me (btw this was the hostess serving us we still hadn't met the server). So then I sat there hot with no water until another 10 minutes...then hostess comes back (still no water) and says she will take our orders as they are busy!!!!! I then said NO I want to see the manager this is absolutely insane...the manager was nice and tried to be accommodating but it doesn't matter....I don't care about free drinks or money off the bill....it ruined the day and the celebration...which btw they did not even acknowledge and what was the point. We ordered through the manager and it took an entire hour to get our subpar food...so sorely disappointed, I can't believe how horrible this was and how it actually effected my day and hurt that I tried to do something special for my family and they ruined it!!!!
We have eaten at Boca many times and have always enjoyed the experience. Today was much different. To begin I requested a standard table but was told only a high top was available. I was ok with that, but what I was not told that it was next to the brick oven and that it was extremely hot. I tried to order a Bloody Mary, but they had run out. How do you run out of Bloody Mary's at 11:30 am during Sunday brunch? My frittata was overcooked and totally tasteless, but at that point I was overcooked as well from sitting next to the brick oven and feared if I complained I too would have been tasteless . I was so hot that I just needed to leave and get somewhere that was air conditioned. Really ruined my plans of having a nice relaxing Sunday.
The black grouper special was delicious! I highly recommend the zucchini fries as well - so yummy! They have a nice wine list and local ingredients that make this one of my favorite Winter Park restaurants. The service was good - a bit of a wait for the main course, but it was worth it.
Great Sunday brunch. We received our value with the unlimited bloody Mary's. Fritata and egg dishes were our selections. The Chocolate muffin shared was perfect. Brunch, drinks good friends and we're still at it 2 hrs. Later. Make reservations for Sunday brunch.
The food was delicious, great ambiance, and great service. Unfortunately, after a very positive experience, I was violently ill a few hours after dinner. Spent the next 48 hours dealing with some kind of food borne illness from a restaurant I would never expect to get sick from.
Eight of us had a 12:30 reservation on a non-holiday Sunday. We did not get seated until 1:00ish. This was not all Boca's fault; the table reserved for us was being taken by people that had long paid their bill. That being said, we were pretty hungry by the time we were sat. It took 55 minutes to get our food. The restaurant did send out complimentary chips, but offered no explanation as to why it was taking so long to get our dishes out. Finally, our waiter started bringing out food. He gave 4 people their food; two in our party ordered pancakes, but he did not bring syrup. He then went to another table occupied by 3 people and took their order. The four people with food did not want to start eating without us, particularly the two without syrup. Eventually, we were served.
The food was okay. No options for milk other than whole. This is surprising for a farm-to-table restaurant. One teen in our party is lactose intolerant. I expect more from a Park Ave. restaurant in Winter Park.
My wife and I had been to Boca twice before; the overall experience was OK but we were not in a hurry to come back with so many other great restaurants in the Winter Park area. The $25 off birthday coupon enticed us to give it a try again. We were given a table by the window facing Park Avenue which resulted in the setting sun blinding me; they really do need to add some shades to that side. Plus the noise in that area was deafening. If we return I will asked to seated in a different area. My wife had a difficult time choosing a wine from the very limited wine list; Boca needs to include a least a few popular California selections. We both had the Kale Caesar salad but the dressing was overly bland. Fortunately our entrees of Amber Jack for my wife and Meat Loaf for me (although my mashed potatoes were cold) were excellent and made the overall experience three stars. We saw enough to return some time in the future, but Boca needs to improve its overall dining experience to better compete with the number of excellent restaurants in the WP area or risk the fate of the numerous failed restaurants that have previously occupied their location.
Very friendly and helpful staff. All three dishes (tuna, fish of the day and steak) nicely prepared and served. Don't remember the name of the starter we had- kind of bread made in their brick oven but it was marvelous! On overall great experience for soul and body. Thank you!
Arrived on time for our Sunday 1pm reservation and our party of 4 was seated promptly. That was the only thing that went right and it all went downhill from there. Short staffed on kitchen help as well as servers. We were finally served our entrees which were not complicated almost 75 minutes from the time we sat down which we found unacceptable as far as the time elapsed. Mgmt comped our appetizer and apologized for the long delay but service was not so good.
Been to Boca before and service was acceptable. As there are other Park Ave restaurant options, I will now dine elsewhere until I learn things have improved at Boca. They are located as locals know in the cursed restaurant corner of Park Avenue -like 7 in the last 15 years that have come and gone. I was hoping Boca would make it but if they don't improve their service they may also disappear.
