Boca Tavern Ratings and Reviews
BEST filet mignon in Marin, no doubt about it, but there are plenty of other fabulous items to choose from on the expansive menu. I am a fan! The food is fresh and wonderful. I hope they bring back the butternut squash soup for the fall/winter menu.
We went to Boca for a nice date night. Our waitress was so attentive and ensured our wine glasses were full. I love that they offer half glasses as an option. Our waitress recommended great wines and recommended a dessert she said was her favorite, which we never would have selected, and it was amazing - it was their pineapple and coconut cake. The prime rib and filet were both excellent. If you want great steak and a nice atmosphere Boca is the best place to go in Novato.
Promptly seated in A/C indoor table we had nice spirit selection to go along with huge, lightly battered fried calamari order. Caesar salad it as lemony as most and a great heirloom salad were next split. I had 6oz. Petite filet mignon and others had hamburger, ribeye steaks- all very good and hot. One had prix fixe hanger steak, all took food home. We got comp. coffee and desserts for 70th wedding and wife's birthday. Very nice experience, order small or share!
I am an "appetizer" diner, instead of ordering an appetizer and a main course I order three or four appetizers to share with my guest. I have found it's a lot more fun to meet someone and enjoy a meal together by sharing several plates.
In this Bocca Tavern is improving a lot. I ordered the gambas, the roasted bone marrow, the mussels and the salmon. I paired those choices with a medium-body Malbec and the results were good. Finished the meal with mango sorbet, refreshing.
One suggestion is to improve the varietals on offer, otherwise Bocca is making progress.
Excellent food as usual, we were thoroughly taken care of. Only minor criticism- steaks inconsistently sized- my daughter and son both ordered a 10-oz filet and my son's looked almost twice the size- and hers was medium-rare, his medium-well. Always irks me when a female is given the smaller portion and charged the same amount. Fix this please.
We did not have a good dining experience. We were from out of town and booked through open tables. The Restuarant was too warm to feel comfortable and altering ordering a dinner and waiting 45 minutes ... they did not have baked potatoes. We never understand a restaurant that runs out of baked potatoes. Go to Safeway and buy potatoes.
We went to Boca Tavern for the first time in a long while, and were a bit disappointed. They had prix fixe special with hangar steak - which I knew might be hit or miss, but it was a miss, the steak was so tough it was barely edible. My son and I had it and it was just way too tough. Then I asked for another glass of wine to two different bus boys, then it took a server and another 15 minutes to get it. It was busy but not that busy. . .I want to like the place as it's close to my house and it's a nice ambiance inside.
I liked the food, liked the atmosphere when we were on the outside area. Inside was very noisy but upbeat. Had a good evening. Did ask for a to go bag & didn't get all the food I wanted in the bag but will go back again. Wine prices for this area seem high . Next time will corkage my wine.
Hadn't been back in about four months, glad (?) to report that little has changed. The fare remains reasonable and unimaginative, the wines drinkable. Ordered the mussels and the shrimp as appetizers, tasted good but not great. The malbec and the chardonnay served their purpose adequately.
As long as there is little competition in the area Boca will remain in business.
Boca Tavern is one of my favorite restaurants in Marin because it's got great food, excellent service, and beautiful and varied dining options -- out on the patio, in the gorgeous, elegant wood-paneled dining room in the back, in the cozy wine cellar room, or in the grand main dining room. Oh. And the cocktails are divine.
The waiter was very friendly and made accommodations to avoid gluten in food. Problem was that the filet mignon had gristle in it and the steak had a large amount of blue cheese butter which had an overpowering flavor on the meat. Not a good bang for your buck and filet mignon should never have gristle in it!
