Bobby Van's Steakhouse - DC Ratings and Reviews
The bone in rib-eye was very disappointing. Although cooked as requested, the steak was unexceptional and had much more fat than previous visits. The texture and flavor of the meat were nowhere as satisfying given the cost. The creamed spinach and mashed potato sides were adequate. The service, however, was superb.
We enjoyed the chili calamari as a starter. Our entrees - scallops and clam linguini- were just ok. The scallops were slightly over cooked and salty. The linguini pasta could’ve been creamier. We also ordered a side of Brussels sprouts. We were expecting crunchy Brussels sprouts but it was like a slaw, the taste was good though. We used a groupon but if we paid full price we would’ve been pretty disappointed in the food we got for the value.
We had dinner at Bobby Van's before attending a show at the National Theater. It is perfect, as it is a short walk away. The food was very good, an Asian Pear Salad and French Onion Soup for appetizers, and two Ribeye steaks for dinner, along with the Prosciutto Mac and Cheese. All winners. Service, although spotty, was good, just not as good as some other restaurants in the market in the same price range. We had a drink at the bar prior to being seated, which, unfortunately, was forgettable. There is no ambiance and the place is too brightly lit. It was also quite chilly in the room, which could have affected the perception. All in all, it's a good solid place and should not be missed.
We love Bobby vans! I made reservations here for my husbands birthday during our stay in DC. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. The service was excellent and the food was delcious! We enjoyed it so much we came back again for dinner the same week. I’ve already recommended it to family who will be staying in DC this coming weekend.
We were meet by the host and seated immediately. The night was slow because it's The New Year weekend and Washington is pretty quiet. There were 3 in our party. We had the filet mignon, pepper encrusted Petit filet mignon, and the stone cut steak, all prepared medium rare. The sides were sauteed mushrooms, streamed spinach, and an enormous baked potato. The sides were excellent. The meat perfectly cooked, however the flavor was lacking. The wait staff was excellent. Overall, it was a good meal.
Great experience, the steaks that we had were cooked to perfection. Service was good. Only negative was I seemed to have the worst table in the establishment, I don't know how they did the table selection ( I guess I did not pass the eye test as a potential repeat dinner lol) but again the service was good and so was the food.
Relaxed, unhurried atmosphere that has always served us excellent meals. Although we tend to order a steak dish, the halibut entry of the day we just had was excellent. The service is impeccable, and many of the staff have been here for years. You won’t go wrong visiting Bobby Van’s on 15th St NW.
Wow. The special occasion was enhanced with dinner at Bobby Van's. Not only are the cocktails superior (dry martini up with olives) but also the food (exquisite) and the service (magnificent -- perfect timing on all courses). We will return again and again for the BV experience. Thank you for making our evening wonderful.
Service in Bobby Van's was amazing. The old adage rang true, never order seafood from a steakhouse. Had the crab cake and blackened catfish, small portion sizes, and it was decent. Dessert was outstanding. Had the bread pudding, it is an elaborate presentation where they light flames and is served with ice cream and mascarpone cheese.
Usually very, very good in all areas and have gone here several times. However, this visit we ordered the porterhouse for 2, a bone-in ribeye, and a petite sirloin - all medium rare. The only one done perfectly was the porterhouse. The other 2 were done medium to medium well. We actually showed the waiter when he came to inquire about how we were liking the meal and he could physically see the difference in color in the meat side-by-side. While the waiter offered to take it back and get us new ones, I was brought up not to waste. Given the price of the steaks and they were edible, we elected not to send them back. It was a shame because we were there for a birthday dinner and were really looking forward to great (not just ok) steaks. But the restaurant offered new ones and we made the call to just finish the ones we had. They did comp us an apple cake (with a candle of course!) and our coffee for dessert because of the issue with the steaks. They didn't really need to do that because we chose not to order new ones. If we had ordered new ones, I have no doubt that they would have come out as perfectly as the porterhouse. The fact that they comped us anything after we chose to keep the steaks we already had is a testament to the quality of customer service at this restaurant.
One minor suggestion concerning the sides we ordered is to seriously consider how many are in your party and how many other sides you may want to order. We did the steamed spinach and hash browns for a party of 3 adults and one teenager. The serving size of the spinach was pretty much spot on. However, the serving size of the hash browns would probably have been enough to feed a party of 4 teenage boys who play football! Great value, but it was a whole lot of food - plenty to take home.
So overall, a great place and we will continue to return when we hunger for a great place to get a great steak.
The food was delicious. This was my second time eating there. The first time I saw the hashbrowns and wanted to try them. They were okay. I would not order them again. I did take a recommendation by our waiter to try the sautéed mushroom with onions. That was wonderful and will definitely have that again when I return.
This is D.C.'s best steakhouse. The service is stellar, the food is fantastic, and they consistently serve great steaks. The problem with most D.C. steakhouses is that don't always nail the cooking of their steaks. Bobby Van's on 15th nails it every single time. Ask for the Cajun rub as it is awesome. Since I work for the beef industry, I happen to know how to cook a steak. Bobby Van's is the place for real steak lovers.
