Bobby Van's Steakhouse - DC Ratings and Reviews
my sisters and I do a sister's dinner every now and again and thought we should try Bobby Van's. we had a great time and the staff is wonderful. food was good but could have been better. and the portion size was GREAT! I will definitely be back to try something else on the menu. I also had a breat margarita(actually it was so good I ordered a 2nd one lol)
I was at the retaurant to celebrate a friend's birthday during lunch hour and restaurant week. The honree had blackened salamon and had th pepper steak entree. The food and bread were both delicious. The waiter was very attentive. The serivce was great. Therefore, I will definitely return for additional visits!
It was restaurant week dinner, but the menu was not far from what I might have other wise ordered. The filet was cooked perfectly, but in need of more spice. Our waiter had a bit of an attitude probelm, but he did serve us well. I had requested a quiet table and the Host did a good job of accomodating that. It was a good night.
I treated my friend to a birthday dinner on Thursday evening and it was fabulous. The Ribeye was cooked to perfection. We opted for the mac&cheese and sauted spinach as our sides and we could not have made a better choice. Our waiter was the best, knowledgeable, congenial and most attentive. We had a wonderful dinner celebration and a very enjoyable evening.
Unfortunately, our experience at Bobby Van’s was OK at best. I’ve always seen Restaurant Week as an opportunity for the higher priced restaurants to attract first-timers to try out their menu without spending a lot of cash. If I like a place during restaurant week, I know I’m going to like it when I return and pay full-price later for a special occasion. In short, Bobby Van’s is off the list of places to return to for that special dinner.
The Catfish with Shrimp E’touffee was bland and lacked the rich, dark colored roux that makes E’toufee what it is. The seasoning was non-existent as to make the sauce an afterthought. The Peppered Steak (medium) was on the dry side with little, to no, natural juices on the plate. Between the two
While the food was (unsurprisingly) wonderful, the service was less than enthusiastic, though I chalk this up to it being restaurant week. We went at 2pm, and it seemed the staff were preparing for an onslaught come dinner, so we were, regretfully, a bit neglected. The food was perfectly cooked, though, and we enjoyed the relative solitude to chat.
I love the atmosphere of this place. Warm and inviting even during the lunch hour and it was the perfect day to enjoy an outside lunch on the patio. The steak was cooked to perfection and the ceasar salad was yummy. The table was split on the steak with red potatoes or the roasted chicken with string beans. We both ordered the steak and when the chicken went by we wanted to try that too. There was also Rockfish (my favorite) on the menu so we definitely will be visting again to try more items from the menu. Service was well-timed and friendly!
This was my first experience at Bobby Van's and I enjoyed it immensely. I had steak and was wonderfully prepared. Also my companion had the catfish and couldn't stop raving about it. I will definitely recommend it to others and I will return. Another plus was being able to outside and enjoy the evening.
Dined at Bobby Van's for RR2012. The service was AMAZING. They were on point the entire time time and I did not want for anything. As far as the food goes I was satisfied with everything but the main course potatoes we on the cool side and the filet didn't feel like it was worth the RR pricing let alone whatever retail would be. Don't get me wrong about the filet it was good just not what I would expect from a steak house. But overall I would rate the experience a good one. I would consider trying again and ordering something different. My friend ordered the pasta and she loved it.
My filet was like shoe leather...to the point Where I had to spit it out. I dined during restaurant week; however, if I would have paid the regular price of $50 for the steak, there would have definitely been a problem. My friend ordered blackened catfish over rice with a shrimp creole sauce. The sauce was tasty; however, the shrimp were your typical frozen shrimp from the grocery store. Our experience was not great considering this restaurant is considered more upscale. The only thing that stood out was the cheesecake. It was delicious. Definitely won't be back.
We have been here before and the food was so much better, even on Restaurant Week. It seems as though cuts were made which has a huge impack on the quality of the food. The steak I had was awful. For some reason it had a bitter taste like liver. I should have sent it back. Although we have been here before,I never used the restroom until this visit. I found it to be in poor condition. I can only speak for the women's restroom. The doors to the stalls must have 20 layers of paint and they are hard to close. Walls and tiles need to be replaced. The whole restroom needs to be gutted and renovated. I can only wonder what's the condition of the kitchen.
We have walked by Bobby Van's for a number of years and asked a friend dine with us,so this Restaurant Week in DC was a prefect time,so we thought. Our Appetizer was superb even though it was served while we were already eating the salad. The 3 Filets of Beef were served, but I truly believe that the server was embarassed to serve them. It had the appearance of charcoal but it was prefectly cook inside,so we accept the appearance.???? Not one waiter or manager came to our table to ask how everything was thoughout our time there. Only after finishing Desert someone ask if we would like coffee. Question is, Did we get this type of food and service because of restaurant week or is this standard. Excellent wine list!
The host sat us at our table. Was sitting for 10 min before the waiter came to the table to greet us and bring menus. He failed to mention any specials that the were offering for the night. Had to wait another 10 mins before he came back to take our drink order. It took 25 mins for us to get our wine that we ordered. I will say after he finally took our order it did not take very long for the food to come out. I ordered my steak med, it came out med well. had to send it back, the 2nd steak was cooked med but it had no favor to it. I had to add salt and ask for steak sauce. I've been to many other steak houses in my life and I've never had to add salt nor use steak sauce on my steaks. This was my birthday dinner and I was very displeased.
We've been to Bobby Van's Steakhouse twice in the least 6 months. On both occasions the food was perfectly cooked, and tasted out of this world good. The steak was the king of the plate, and the sauteed mushrooms were hearty and the right complement. It is well worth the price with superb drinks and outstanding service. You are treated like royalty and feel like it the entire time!! We will be back.
