Bobby Van's Steakhouse - 809 15th Street NW
The food was over priced for the quality my filet was pressed an so hard it was crunchy and tough. Not a lot of flavor. Service was nice but not great. It took several requests for drinks and there seemed to be a lot of issues with communication
1 year anniversary
The filet was seasoned perfectly and the blue cheese bacon brussel sprouts were the best I've ever had.
1 st time. My guests and I enjoyed. Server and food great! My guest had asked for medium rare, closer to rare and her steak came out more med well. That was the only issue.
I dine here every few months. The OB Steak salad used to be a filet mignon, now it's a hangar steak.... same price. The BBQ bacon-wrapped shrimp entree had FOUR small shrimp. Looked like an appetizer size, for $26. Value is not there, so will not recommend and won't return.
My steak was average. I had a much higher expectation. Overall disappointing. Would not go back.
Great atmosphere. We went for our Pastor's birthday so it was a great time.
Bobby Van's Steakhouse is one of our "go to" places in D.C. Whether entertaining fiends or business associates, we can always count on Bobby Van's- our favorite is on 15th St- for incredible service and outstanding food.
The service was excellent. They were right there anytime we wanted anything. We did not have to wait at all from the moment we walked in the door to the moment we walked out. The food was great and so is the atmosphere.
Moving away dinner
New Year’s celebration
Best porterhouse we have ever had... yes, better than many 5 star restaurants.... The service was spectacular and we were treated like we were the only patrons there. Our waiter was knowledgeable, offered recommendations, expertly, personality was warm and welcoming.... and I would go back just for his service! As an aside, the meat was so incredibly tender and flavorful, I could not imagine anything comparably More tender or any more flavorful. Great job all the way around. Would highly recommend Bobby Vans!
Great food and service. A little pricey but the food is worth it. Will go back again whether it be NYC or DC.
Great for Anniversary dinner!
Food was excellent. We were there on New Years Eve - had an early reservation. Service was good - the server was okay, but all his assistants were on top of everything. Manager and host very nice, personable, and accommodating.
Our server Rod Griggsley is the REASON we make it a RULE to keep returning . The food is extraordinary to say the least ....... but without the attention to detail awarded us by Mr Griggsley, and his team our server, I’m sure this review would of been a 3 - 3 1/2 ... when in DC , Bobby Vans on 15 th street is a must ! Ask fo “Rod Griggsley” and you’re experience will be memorable!!
I loveeeeeee this place it has always been my go to for great good and service!!!
Great food and the service is quick. Attentive staff and would highly recommend that anyone in DC or NYC visit this restaurant
Our go to place for a guranteed great experience.
Excellent food, ambience and service. Our server, Rod, is always fabulous. Looking forward to our next visit.
The salad, steaks, sides and dessert were excellent. High quality food. Service was prompt but impersonal (e.g. waiter didn't introduce himself). The noise level was too high for an intimate dinner for two. The booth cushions are lumpy. I would come back for a business dinner but not for a romantic date.
The service was terrific. Attentive friendly and continual. The food, however, left a lot to be desired. Roast beef sandwich was all onions. Brussels sprouts were embedded in a cheesy goo. Must have been an off day in the kitchen. But I will go back and try it again. The staff is the best in town, even if the food isn't.
Love Bobby Van's. Great food. Consistent. And best of all the service is amazing. Rodney is the best. He is the server of choice.
Food was outstanding and waiter was personable, helpful and timely.
Food is awesome! Service is great! Nice atmosphere.
The service was exceptional!! This was our third trip to Bobby Van's. The seafood entrée quality has always been exceptional. I initially ordered the filet mignon (medium) and received an overcooked, over charred and literally inedible filet mignon. I was disappointed because Bobby Van's is a steakhouse and I received a steak that should have never been presented. It was so blatantly inedible and unserviceable, upon reordering I replaced it with an entirely different entrée (not steak). The seafood dish that I ordered instead of the steak was EXCEPTIONAL!
There was a time when Bobby Van’s was one of the better steakhouses in DC. The wait staff was inattentive and slow. The drinks from the bar were well made and generous. The waiter was asked about the raw oyster appetizer and he stated that they were Chinkapin Oysters. The appetizer arrived and they were small Blue Point Oysters. We ordered a tomato and onion dish and the red onion was cut so thick that the flavor of the onion overwhelmed the disk. My wife order a veal chop. The chop was tough and loaded with gristle. We talked about sending the dish back but decided to write the night off as a bad experience. In general, the menu selections are pedestrian. Many patrons on this night were dressed in sneakers, blue jeans and sweaters. The very casual attire of the patrons indicates to me that Bobby Van’s has become a tourist trap. I’ve enjoyed Bobby Van’s in the past years but tonight our experience was the equivalent of a very expensive night at Applebee’s.
Great food, wonderful service (Rod was our server, couldn't have been nicer). I think the only negative thing, which wasn't truly a negative, was the noise level. We were in the dining area but very close to the bar, and the bar was PACKED! So, it was a little loud, but everything else was perfect. One of our favorite restaurants to come to when we are downtown.
Good steaks, good service without the performance of some of the bigger chains. A little dated decor, but overall good value.
Yummy yummy in my tummy
The food, service and ambiance were fantastic. We always enjoy coming to Bobby Van’s. The wait staff is the best!!
Perfect way to have dinner with friends. service and food were outstanding. would return in a heartbeat.
I've dined here at least a half-dozen times over the last few years, and have been satisfied every time. My only quibble with this particular experience is that 1) the bar was full and noisy, and 2) a table of six near us was also noisy. I chalk both of these up to the holiday season. We will certainly return.
All the ambiance you'd ever want in a classic steakhouse, with great steaks (and delicious sea bass), wonderful starters, awesome cocktails, and it was all served to us by the most enjoyable waiter (named Rodney) that we've had in eons. The opposite of arrogant and snooty, this place is fantastic and much less expensive than many other DC chophouses.
We had an incredible dinner of french onion soup, salad, filet mignon and strawberry cheesecake that was absolutely outstanding! The service was excellent - would highly recommend Bobby Van's Steakhouse!
Food was VERY salty. WAY too much salt. Steak was both undercooked and dry on outside. How do you even do that? Slow service on a slow night. Didn’t get dinner wine until half was done dinner. Mac and cheese was good. Only good thing I can say. (WAY TOO MUCH SALT. TASTED LIKE THEY DUMPED SALT ON SALMON AND STEAK.)
No one better than our waiter mike. Professional, courteous, and overall exceptional.
We had a living social coupon for a 3 course meal for 2 for $99. The food was delicious. We also ordered drinks that were amazing as well, the Washington Apple and the Golden Margarita. Would recommend to others.
