"At Bobby Vans 54th Street, you can expect the same great service and the same great food as our other restaurants. Tucked away in another historic restaurant location, (at one time this was the hang out spot for such stars as Frank Sinatra and the rest of the Rat Pack) there is plenty of history and untold stories behind these walls, if only they could talk. Conveniently located just east of Park Avenue and 4 blocks north of The Waldorf-Astoria, this is where you want to be. As you walk into the restaurant you’re greeted by our hosts and a large credenza filled with beautiful bottles of wine. Glancing to your left you overlook the spacious yet always occupied bar, where the bartenders know your name and have your drink waiting for you before you can even say hello. Separating the bar from the dining room is a glass window so you can see all the action of other diners enjoying their meals. At Bobby Vans 54th Street, we offer various choices for private and semi-private events. Our dining spaces can be divided into a space as intimate as a party of 12 or can be fully opened to accommodate a party of up to 140. Both of our boardrooms are ideal for corporate functions and any other type of personal function you may be having. When dining in our private boardrooms, our guests have the option of ordering from our "Daily Menu" or our "Private Event Menus".

disappointing, place needs major renovation, waiter was unprofessional, hard to track down
food was just ok, steak was fatty and not great. Much better steakhouses in NYC and certainly don"t remember Bobby Van's to be this wasy.

What a special evening!!!

My wife and I, along with another couple had dinner there on Friday evening, March 23rd. We had arrived in NYC that afternoon for the weekend. We planned a lot of sightseeing, but in reality we were really looking for some good food! Bobby Van's on 54th St. didn't disappoint us! What a night.......beautiful steaks (big and delicious), great seafood (my fra diavolo lobster was amazing), very nice wine and most of all GREAT service by LUIS and his assistant staff! No rushing, but timely service. Attentive, but not obtrusive. Just wonderful food and drink with good friends. I took credit for finding this restaurant on the Open Table website and am I ever happy that I did. I would highly recommend this establishment. We are already planning our return to NYC and going back to Bobby Van's on 54th St.

This will be a very simple and brief review. I have been to Bobby Van's on at least 20-25 occasions. I usually prefer the 54th Street restaurant to others because of its superior food and close proximity to my office. This is simply the FINEST STEAK available. I have been to all of the usual steakhouse restaurants and they are good, even excellent, but I have never had a better NY Strip sirloin steak that I have been served at this restaurant (consistently). Do not pass up this unbelievable diamond in the rough..

Overall, I felt the Bobby Van’s experience was good and I do expect to make a return trip. It was perfect for the business lunch we were hosting however I do see Bobby Van’s being a good spot for celebrating special occasions or even date night as well. The service was consistent and non-pressure filled, which I like. You get the feeling that the waiter knows how to read the table well. Everyone enjoyed their meals; We covered the gamut from Steak to Seafood, and Sushi to Vegetarian. My only constructive criticism lies with the lack of warmth upon entry. Not from the decor, which certainly gives off the appeal of a storied NY steak house, but from the hostess. Perhaps the hostess was having a rough morning because it certainly felt like we were a bother as opposed to a welcomed guest. From there things went well so I typically don’t hold this type of thing against the overall experience. Chalk it up to a one-off. Give Bobby Van’s a try.

Saturday night 8pm about 1/3 full. Hum....had a bad feeling - where is everyone? Snowy evening. Hostess took our coat and pointed to a wall of tables and told us to take our pick. Hum. Specials written on the wall and recited by our waiter but so annoying that prices for the specials aren't offered unless asked. We ordered a la carte from regular menu. The vine ripe tomato on the wedge salad was pink and hard. My salad with fresh asparagus, tinned hearts of palm and avocado was the best part of the dinner. My filet had a large chunk of grizzle attached to the side of it, should have been removed in the kitchen. My husband's NY strip had a piece of grizzle down the middle of it. Hardly what you would expect from a steak house touting prime meat. We shared a baked potato and a bottle of sparkling water. No drinks or wine. Bill was $190 before tip. Would not go back. We stay in a boutique hotel nearby and they did NOT recommend it when we asked for a good steak nearby. Made a reservation Sat afternoon for Sat evening.

2nd time there. The food was tasteful and presented well. Though it is a steakhouse we both had seafood. The scallops were broiled to my taste and my wife had crab cakes, no filler there just chunk crab meat and seasoned just right. This is a nice place for pre-theatre or after theatre dining.

For it being a New York City restaurant and a supposeded Italian eatery, a few things fell short for me. The one thing was the decor, as well as the lack of imagination with the appetizers. I'd ordered tomoato and mozzarella and got a combination of just a large sliced tomatoes and a hunk of mozzarella. For our main course, which we both had forms of steak, the meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned . Yet the potatoes lacked something called salt, while the mashed were very thin they also lacked salt. The desserts were very well done and credit is due where it should be given.

Ate there for restaurant week. Placed order for all 3 courses. Although the restaurant was not crowded, the waiters rushed through each course... serving my main course while I was half way through my salad. Although I kept my salad and was eating it, they took it away and I still hadn't finished. They didn't ask us if we were ready for dessert, it was served immediately after they took our dinner plates away. This isn't the first time I've experienced this hurried service here. I'd understand if they were busy. But they had at least 10 tables unused. Why hurry your diners?

Great Steaks, well prepared and served. Difficult to judge ambiance as they had a large birthday party in the back room, and the noise was loud. Dining room was old fashioned and not really attractive and the room was cold, but the waiters were old pros, and the meal was well prepared and well served.

We decided to give this restaurant a try and participate in the NYC restaurant week. I was surprised to see the menu just on a sheet of paper and not even in a sleeve. The bread was cold and the butter was hard. I had the skirt steak and the chipotle mash. My steak was grey in color meaning there was no sear on it. The plate was not appealing looking with not even a bit of garnish. Even though the taste was ok, the presentation was lacking. However the service was excellent. Eduardo did an outstanding job.

Staff was very attentive, but food was just average...although it was restaurant week, I had to ask for the special menu. Others who came in after us didn't get the menu either, so may not have even been aware of the fixed price dinner option. Not a good way to do business!!

Excellent food Restaurant very crowded and confined due to private event. Also very noisy. Service wasn't great due to confined spaces they were working with. I will go back and try again another time. I've eaten in other Bobby Van's restaurants and had a much better experience. Bar was crowded but service was good.

What an amazing service, seems like a rarity nowadays. It felt like waiters went through very thorough training, it was unbelievably pleasant.
Food was delicious and well presented. It is slightly loud due to the bar but I visited on Friday evening, I'm guessing it will be the same story everywhere else.
Overall very pleasant experience, will definitely come back

There was a great traditional menu with huge steaks and sides. The service was very good - they even gave us a more expensive bottle of wine when our chosen bottle had run out. Will return here.

My first time at Bobby Van's steakhouse was amazing, the service was exceptional! It was my birthday celebration, and the food (fillet mignon) was incredible. All of my friends who came with me loved it. The waiter serving us was very polite and came to our table when needed.

I found Booby Van (on 54th) to be disappointing. I was looking for a neighborhood steak place, and went on line and reviewed their menu. When I arrived, the menu I was given was drastically different than what was shown on line. The rib eye was $47.50 on line, but $55 in the restaurant. And this was the case for all their steaks. Second, the wine by the glass offering was pedestrian. of the four whites, none was French the sauv blanc was from us-the reds were similar, none French, two rodney strong choices, altogether bleh. Service and steak were both good but here are better options available in the neighborhood.

I made reservations well in advance of our upcoming trip to NYC. We arrived right on time and were seated within seconds. The young lady at the front desk was busy on her cellphone when we walked in. We were seated and greated by several staff members and drinks brought quickly. The servers were very kind. We ordered our food, salads were delivered and tasty. We were very specific about the cooking of our steaks, one Medium Filet and one Medium Sirloin. When the food arrived, both steaks were overcooked and tough. One steak was taken back to redo and I kept mine as we had theatre tickets and I would make it ok, although I didn't expect to eat alone and when they came to take my steak back to keep it warm, finally, the other steak was delivered and was Rare. Very unimpressed with their food. The restaurant was very cold temperature and we asked twice to have the heat turned up. Although the manager did remove on of the steaks on our bill, we would never choose to go back to this restaurant. Very disappointed in the overall experience.
