Commercial, old school, meat is OK but not great. Overpriced. They're going to chain levels and not close to excellence. You just pay their rent in park Avenue at grand central.

Bobby Van is one of my favorite for many years. This time I tried the Park Avenue location and was disapointed. Steaks are great, no complains. This is what I expect in a Steak House. I ordered Tomato and Onions (both sliced 1cm thick, who can eat onions like that). As a side I had beans which arrived nearly cold. I was there on my own and they only have large bottle of water (1 liter). Service was friendly. Will not go there again.

Bobby Van's is the quintessential NY steakhouse. The porterhouse steak for 2, creamed spinach with potatoes is a classic. Couple that with a wonderful Cab and your evening is complete!

Great from the start to finish. Greeted by a wonderful woman who takes your coat and gives you a ticket. Small bar nearby while waiting for your table, table is ready before your drinks are done and food is great
Food was uninspired, even for a steakhouse, which only has to serve the staples. Service was rushed. I asked for a wine by the glass list and the waiter asked "red or white?". Hesitantly I said "red" and he rattled off "a cab from California, a pino from Oregon or a malbec from Argintina". That tells me nothing. I want to see which wineries, from what specific regions, etc. It was clear in the interest of rushing me through my meal, the waiter was refusing to take the time to walk back and get me a wine by the glass list. Likewise, I expect a place like this to provide a liquor list. Anyone paying top dollar for a great steak has a preference of specific liquors, for example Mitchners Rye or Blantons Bourbon. I am not impressed with nor appreciate his list from memory. Note, I eat at my local Ruth's Chris at least once a month and receive far superior service there.

The food was lukewarm temperature. The table we were given was jammed in tight by the kitchen so we constantly had people walking by us jamming into our chairs. The food and experience was not worth its value.

COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE DISAPPOINTED. We made advanced reservations and even mentioned the special occasion we we’re celebrating yet upon our arrival, we were seated off to the right in a RIDICULOUS side room that strongly resembled ‘the children’s table’ in GrandMa’s basement. Over crowded room w 3 tables. Our server was as phony as a $3 bill and had to be reminded twice about our drink martini orders...???!!!! THIS is where restaurants make their money....
It NEVER GOT BETTER!!! Only positive was a young man in training who gave us 2ounces more of attention than our server.

My experience at the Park Avenue restaurant was drastically different than my experience at the Bobby Van's restaurant on 50th. The waiter never told us the specials and didn't even realize his error when he came to take our order. He took the order of the table directly next to us first even though they were seated after us. After delivering our food he never came back to check how our meal was (that's not accurate, he came back after we were finished eating). I couldn't even find him to order another drink and to get water on the table was pretty much nonexistent. They only came to pick up our bill because we had already retrieved our coats from coat check and were standing putting them on. This is my first ever online review. I would not return to this restaurant but instead would go again to the location on 50th.
Great Steakhouse to compare to all steakhouses
We were quite early and checked in at the host desk. After checking in, we went to have a couple of drinks at the bar. After 50 minutes and a couple of drinks, I checked back in. There was a bit of confusion as one of the hostesses thought I had not checked in. Not a big deal. about 6 or 7 minutes later we were seated.
We started with a couple of appetizers which were absolutely tremendous. The oyster rockerfeller were the best I have ever had and Suzy started with the eggplant appetizer. This was practically a meal.
I have always graded steakhouses against my favorite steakhouse in Chicago but Bobby Vans Original on Park Avenue is now a definite front runner. My dry aged bone in rib eye was absolute perfection. Suzy had the Chilean Sea bass. She orders this fish at every restaurant that serves it and to my amazement, it was so delicious, it was the first time she finished her entire entree. I tried it and it was also amazing.
I will make a point to stop at this particular restaurant every time I am in New York. I read an article that nothing has changed at Bobby Vans in 50 years. Why mess with perfection?
This lunch was for the belated birthday of my old college chum who I've known since 1984. Bobby Van's was on my short list of NYC steakhouses and it lived up to their reputation. We had crab cakes, wedge salad, creamed spinach, onion rings, a filet mignon and a sirloin. All were perfect. Dessert was chocolate mousse cake and a crème brûlée with coffee. A tasteful end to an amazing and memorable lunch. A festive holiday Friday crowd included well dressed employed professionals and some jewelry bedazzled folks of leisure. In the din of music and laughter, for a brief moment I thought I saw the ghosts of Rita and Daniel Fraad alight in a cloud of spectral mist and pass us by on their way to a fine art auction in the afterlife...
Always great. Exceptional food and service. I go here every time I’m in NY.
