Bobby Van's Park Avenue - 'The Original' Ratings and Reviews
This Bobby Van's site has a reduced menu, from the others, and is more expensive. I also had to request service a few times - instead of having an attentive waiter and/or bus boy. The place was not busy; so it seems like it must be the nature of this location.
I absolutely recommend Bobby Van's for a fantastic dining experience. But go a few blocks more (to another site) and you'll have a much better one!!
Ideally located and professional in every matter, Bobby Van's Park Avenue is just steps from Grand Central Terminal and not far from Rockerfeller Center and Times Square. The restaurant is pristine in its decor and the staff is there to cater to your every request. We were there to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and could not get enough of their goodwill in taking care of us. Seating was immediate upon arrival and drinks and bread were brought promptly. The menu is a listing of meats and seafood that makes it difficult to choose; we selected the sirloin and filet mignon and they were cooked to perfection. Along with creamed spinach and sauteed mushrooms it was a great meal. To top it off, the staff brought in a bread pudding with a candle and serenaded us with a "Happy Anniversary!" A great day with a great dining experience at Bobby Van's!
This seems like a place that maybe used to be great. Waiters were nice, but more than once we had to go find them to get what we needed. The food was ok, but for the high prices, it didn't measure up. 3 of our steaks were not prepared to the correct temperature as ordered. I would not be able to recommend the restaurant.
Extremely overpriced for the quality of the food they offered. Extremely poor value. Honestly, there is no way ever going back or recommending this place. I appreciate that this is a steak house in Manhattan and has to be pricey; however, the quality of the food could not stand up to a real steak house quality, while their prices were on the upper end of prices you would expect.
The service was good. Our waiter was busy but did make sure to spend enough time to discuss the menu and answer any questions we had. They did not have our first two bottle wine choices (making me question the accuracy of their wine list) so that wasn't the best start. As for dinner, my wife and I shared the porterhouse for two. It was not a good cut of meat. It was edible but given the price it was pathetic. A bit overcooked (we ordered medium rare) but that wasn't the issue. The type of beef and cut did not meet any expectation. I could have gotten a better piece of meat from at local Stop & Shop and grilled it myself and it would have been a better meal. I was really hoping for a great dinner on date night and was very disappointing. We ate half the steak and brought the rest home for our dog. There was also the buyers remorse. Over $350 for our third choice bottle of wine and a crappy steak. Never going there again, too many great steak houses in NYC to choose from.
As always, the best steak in Manhattan. What amazes me is that having this great location (Park Avenue) and great food, the General Manager doesn't work on friendlier and more attentive staff. I knew something was up when the restaurant was offering 1,000 points for weekday evening reservation. The service is mediocre and the staff seems to think they are doing the client a favor. The food is great and that's why I keep coming back.
Based on the pricing, I expected a much more elegant experience. The restaurant felt very casual and was very loud. Not the ambiance I was hoping for when taking my mom out for a nice dinner. Felt more like a bar scene with a restaurant than a restaurant with a bar. The waitstaff was not rude but was definitely short with us despite the fact that the restaurant was not busy. The bathrooms were dirty. Both toilets had paper towels stuck in them that would not flush down. I was a little embarrassed that this is where I took my mom for our outing. Fine if you are looking for something casual but feels overpriced for casual. The salads and steaks were both very good, but at that price point, I don't just want good food; I want a nice experience. I will not be going back.
Table selection poor. Offered 4 tables-2 in front of waiters kitchen entrance, one with one seat block blocked by wall impeding vision, one in isolated side room. Told many of the other tables reserved . I had reserved my table Thru Open Table. Didn't seem to matter. I asked how could I reserve table in better location next time. Told by manager at desk " I would have to come in 2 or 3 times weekly" ill mannered and offensive response as far as I was concerned. Thought Ooen Table and Boby Vans Corporate should know about that response.
Was very excited before we arrived and minutes later very disappointed. The service was the least sophisticated ever experienced waiter just reached over my shoulder and removed a glass without saying a word the meal was slapdash and rushed and I felt that our custom was not wanted even though we spent over $280 a few lessons in customer service would be highly recommended
