Located in New York's landmark Helmsley Building, Bobby Van's Steakhouse has been serving the best porterhouse in town for the last eleven years. Upon entering, one is greeted with the sight of a credenza groaning under the weight of large bottles of wine. A bar full of regular customers is on the left and looking into the one-hundred seat dining room, one sees the thirty foot high ceiling and windows overlooking Park Avenue. To complement our Prime Aged Steaks our Sommelier has created an award winning wine list. Whether you're looking for a big Cabernet, a Pinot Noir or something in between our comprehensive list is sure to please. "

The food and service was spot on. The serving sizes were ample. I normally have no problem polishing off an entire rib-eye, but, this time I took a sizable piece home. My wife also brought home some of her wonderful horseradish crusted salmon.
Our server Louis was fun and engaging and definitely made our night better

The waiter was very sneaky we asked what was better the sirloin or the filet mignon and he insisted he would take care of something a bit in between but conveniently failed to mention the price and then ended up charging us $20 more than the most expensive thing on the menu! The restaurant is old and worn, the smoke reaches your table from the restaurant and you leave smelling of steak. The waiters are all depressed and our particular waiter was quite rude and just wanted to get us ordered and out as soon as possible. The food is average at best to charge $15-20 for some chopped tomatoes and chips and mushrooms is a bit of a joke. You should definitely put your money to work at 100s of other places and get a much much better experience.

Everything about Bobby Van’s was excellent. I enjoyed a great meal with great service. My waiter was very attentive, and the steak was one of the best I’ve ever had in NYC. Will definitely go back again

The BV team doted on us. They are everything that you expect of a top shelf steak house. The food was phenomenal; the kids polished-off what was left for breakfast the next morning. Whether business or family, BV “the original” delivers. Looking forward to the next meal.

Great steaks and seafood, solid overall, especially when combined with very efficient and professional service. Decent wine list with a good selection and price points. We ordered steaks, shrimp, scallops, oysters, all good. Not cheap but it is a quality steakhouse well suited for a business meal or special occasions.

Last 2 times my filet has not been cooked as well as in the past. Not happy with that but won’t prevent me from coming back.

Decent staff - efficient and friendly. Good daily special (lentil soup) subpar steaks. Definitely not particularly good food overall. If your forte is steaks they should be impressive not underwhelming.

We went there in a recommendation. However when spending $200 for dinner for two I would like to be able to hear the person I’m with y’all to me! It was more on level with a sports bar as far as noise goes. Man right beside me said f... at least 10 times. Might be fine for those gay spend that on a regular basis

With so many steakhouses to choose from this turned out to be a great pic. First out was the three color salad. We ordered two and divided them into four. Very healthy portion. We had the filet cooked a perfect medium rare and at least 16oz, the scallops which were giant and came with 7 on the plate and the filet of sole which was a giant filet and prepared perfectly. Service was super efficient with a veteran staff on hand. The bread basket was also very tasty. There were 4 of us and we could have all been stuffed with two entrees. Prices are a good value for what u get. I’ll go back.

Very good food, the steaks were literally fantastic. Service enough good, not too much friendly or explicative with us (we’re Italian) in spite of our questions. The check was too expensive (we drank no wine), anyway in line with the city. Food quality very high!

The steak was solid, but under-seasoned. We had Porterhouse for 2 at a business meal. Tasty, but far from making the list of outstanding steaks I've ever had. The service was appropriately attentive, and the atmosphere was as expected for a NYC steakhouse.

Bobby Van's consistently has the best steaks in town. I've never been disappointed, and that's why I go. Also has impeccable service. It's on the pricey side, even compared to other steakhouses in Manhattan. It's also very loud and the tables are crowded, which is while I usually go down the street to Capital Grille, which has much more private seating. I'll go again, and it's a great place, just not perfect for everything.

This place does not have a lunch menu. Service from a business lunch perspective was slow and inattentive. Food was good but had to cobble it together to avoid a huge midday meal.

In NYC for business and made reservation for dinner. Arrived early but was greeted warmly and quickly seated. Service was exceptional. Ordered a shrimp cocktail that arrived quickly and was very good. followed with the sole, a baked potato and green beans. Sides were quite large and well prepared. Sole was a little overcooked on one side so top was crisp and remainder a little mushy. Not the best by far.

Overall a good experience. I'd go back

Not my first time to Bobby Van's, not my last. As usual, the food was excellent. My go to entree is the bone in rib-eye prepared medium rare - and it was rock solid as usual. Hash browns are great, but the not-too-creamy creamed spinach is always excellent.

I'm getting hugry again just thinking about it

When i was getting my coat, the water accused me of being cheap and not tipping ; he shoved the bill in my face... problem was i left a 20% tip ( $36) and he had the wrong person. Point is he never really truly cared about my dining experience .. he was and is a hothead

Waiter was terrific. After we placed our order he asked if we were open to suggestions which we said yes . He said to try the "best" steak which we quickly agreed. It was exactly what I needed to make the lunch special and move me closer to signing up a new client.

The best part of the evening was the pre dinner drinks at the bar. Tony made great drink and meal recommendations. Once we got to the table, the owcerall experience rapidly declined. Our server was pushy and within minutes of being seated, he wanted to take our order anbareky went over the specials. He was not friendly and had zero personality. We left there knowing we would not come back. For the price you pay to eat there, you expect more. I guess this explains why the restaurant on a Friday evening had more empty tables than patrons!
