Bobby Van's Park Avenue - 'The Original' Ratings and Reviews
I had always wanted to go to Bobby Vans but never worked out on past trips. This trip the hotel gave me some vouchers to use and BV was one of the places on the list. Am I glad I went there. Started with garden salad, which could be a meal in itself.
Then I had the scallops. These were the best scallops ever and scallops is one of my favorite dishes. I would recommend you having broiled because the quality is so good you do not want to hide the flavor.
I also had a side of the onion rings which is the thin onion rings. The server suggested half order which was more than plenty. (i.e. sides are table sides for the most part and not individual sides.)
Great place to go, just one thing to note is the restaurant is on the opposite side of the street from where you think it would be based on address.
Ive been there alot because of location....this was not a good experience....
Baked clams are usually great....this time they were undercooked....not good.....
Chicken Francese was good but the waiter spilled the sauce all over my clients sports jacket... we didnt notice until we were leaving...he was not happy....
The whole restaurant seems to run on auto pilot....no longer attention to making improvements...the waiters act like they dont want to be there......just take the reservations and sling out the food....they need a staff makeover or sign them all up for a Dale Carnegie course....
I will probably not go back for awhile.....
Great experience at Bobby Van's. It was our first visit and the food and service was fantastic. As expected at a NY steakhouse, the strip steak and filet were perfectly cooked and very flavorful but our groups favorites were the salmon with horseradish crust and lamb chops. Husband agreed that the oysters Rockefeller was one of the best versions we have had. Service was perfect and we appreciated how they accommodated our last minute reservation. We will definitely return. The room is loud, but other areas might be quieter.
Delicious food. My husband and I shared the Porterhouse for 2 with baked potatoes for our anniversary. All I can say is WOW! Outstanding steak that fell apart easily at the touch of a knife! We enjoyed the oysters Rockefeller for an appetizer and they were simply gorgeous. The staff was excellent! I would definitely recommend as a special occasion restaurant.
This Bobby Van's site has a reduced menu, from the others, and is more expensive. I also had to request service a few times - instead of having an attentive waiter and/or bus boy. The place was not busy; so it seems like it must be the nature of this location.
I absolutely recommend Bobby Van's for a fantastic dining experience. But go a few blocks more (to another site) and you'll have a much better one!!
Ideally located and professional in every matter, Bobby Van's Park Avenue is just steps from Grand Central Terminal and not far from Rockerfeller Center and Times Square. The restaurant is pristine in its decor and the staff is there to cater to your every request. We were there to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and could not get enough of their goodwill in taking care of us. Seating was immediate upon arrival and drinks and bread were brought promptly. The menu is a listing of meats and seafood that makes it difficult to choose; we selected the sirloin and filet mignon and they were cooked to perfection. Along with creamed spinach and sauteed mushrooms it was a great meal. To top it off, the staff brought in a bread pudding with a candle and serenaded us with a "Happy Anniversary!" A great day with a great dining experience at Bobby Van's!
This seems like a place that maybe used to be great. Waiters were nice, but more than once we had to go find them to get what we needed. The food was ok, but for the high prices, it didn't measure up. 3 of our steaks were not prepared to the correct temperature as ordered. I would not be able to recommend the restaurant.
Extremely overpriced for the quality of the food they offered. Extremely poor value. Honestly, there is no way ever going back or recommending this place. I appreciate that this is a steak house in Manhattan and has to be pricey; however, the quality of the food could not stand up to a real steak house quality, while their prices were on the upper end of prices you would expect.
