Bobby Van's Grill Times Square Ratings and Reviews
Food was good, but the Service was so slow and the older Host was incredibly rude, he ruined the whole night. He grabbed our check to rush us out of the restaurant, annoyed and complaining to me because he had others waiting for our table. If the service was faster maybe they could turn their tables quicker. We waited over 20 minutes just to order drinks then another 20 minutes before we got them! Don't rush my group of 6 if your staff can't handle the crowd.
Truth be told, the location on 50th street is larger and has a real feel of old world steak house, not to mention an incredible bar. On the other hand the Times Square location has so much natural light which so welcome in midtown Manhattan. I also like it for the convenience of being around the corner from my office, and the service is truly amazing!
You would assume that a restaurant located plop in the middle of the NYC theater district would know how to get diners fed and out to the theater in time without any pressure. Not Bobby Van's! Our reservation for 6:30pm would have been fine for most any other restaurant in the area. We arrived at 6:15pm, a party of 3, and was told that we were early and it would take a few minutes. We were not seated till 6:42! The theater curtain was at 8pm! Fortunately, the theater was across the street.
Another problem was that we were seated upstairs. This was a problem for my 88-year old mother. I think the restaurant should have indicated that there is an upstairs dining area.
I had noted that we had theater seats when I made the restaurant reservation. There was no reason they could not have contacted us to say that a 6:00pm reservation would be better. As it was, we were extremely stressed. The waiter did not even take drink orders, just the main course. Which we ate and then ran out. Next time, we're eating at Joe Allen's. They know how to get people out for the theater and give you a pleasant dining experience.
Have dined there on a number of occasions primarily because it is one of the very few restaurants in this part of Manhattan that offers outdoor seating, in addition to being convenient to my office and to theaters. If you like dining al fresco in Times Square, and don't mind ponying up $22 for four shrimp or $15 for the least expensive glass of chardonnay, this is a good bet.
first of all i entered the information when booking the table that we come to the restaurant to celebrate the 70th birthday of my aunt. obviously nobody ever read the comment. when we ordered our mains i asked the waiter is there is any side with it. he said no. in the end we had rice with our scallops. as he said there is no side coming automatically with any main, we ordered a baked potatoe and spinach. the mains were served without. so i asked for them, the checked the handwritten order sheet of the waiter and got the sides on the table within 2 mins. the taste of the sides was awful. the spinach had just no flavour at all. no spices used, no small pieced of onions in it. just plain spinach in water. i complained and only got bla bla excuses, but they never admitted they forgot the sides and they never admitted that they did not answer my question concerning mains being served with sides or not. i would never suggest this place to anyone. really poor service and for this food overpriced.
2nd time eating here . Better 1st time. Server not very pleasant. Took them 10 min to deshell my $75 lobster. Brought it back mangled and undercooked. I sent back. Returned to me like rubber. Huge pork chop was good but very expensive for just a peice of meat on a plate. Not even a garnish. No presentation here. Too many better places to eat.
We had a reservation but got there about 45 minutes early and were seated immediately. The waiter was very attentive and happy to be there. Drinks were great. Dinner was absolutely delicious. We both ordered burgers and couldn't come close to finishing all our food. Great value all around. I will go back again!
The quietest BV's location I've ever gone to lol our reservation was honored promptly @5pm and the food was great as always for a BV's location. This being our first visit to this particular location, we tried the RW menu and we were glad we did because you get your money's worth and although we added side options the value didn't disappoint. The NY sirloin might've been a bit too salty but it's precise cooked temperature made it nothing to fuss over. The downfall here were the cocktail drinks
Friends & I took advantage of NYC Restaurant Week. Our choice this year - Bobby Van's. What a great choice! They were very accommodating with my changing the size of my group and our request for separate checks.
We sat outside, which made it a little noisy and may have slowed service a little, but we were happy. I thought the food was wonderful and enjoyed it thoroughly. I would definitely recommend to friends and would like to come again.
We make Bobby Van's a tradition every time we're in the city. The food is consistently excellent. On this occasion, our waitress took our order and we never saw her again. I had to ask one of the other employees to refill our drinks. After we were about finished I finally noticed our waitress leaving for the night. Apparently her shift ended after our order was taken. She never came back to say she was leaving but someone else would be taking care of us, and nobody did until I said something. The food was excellent as usual, however.
My husband and I went last week before our show. It happened to be restaurant week, so we tried that menu. There were a lot of options and the portions were hearty. We both enjoyed our meals- my veal chop was fantastic. However, the cocktails were extremely overpriced.
