My partner and I decided on a nice, relaxing dinner to cap off an amazing day together. We felt like a good steak so decided to try Bobby Van's. Our reservation was 8:30PM on a Saturday, the restaurant wasn't very busy- 3 tables seated (in addition to us) in the area we were in, one large party (~10-12) in an adjacent room and a larger party of ~8 in a semi-partitioned off part of the same room we were in.
Within a few mins of sitting, we heard a loud guffaw from a table with 4 men... more laughter, very loud talking (as each guy competed for "air time". After a few mins we heard one of the guys tell the waiter he wanted a doggy bag. We figured they'd leave soon... so decided to order. They continued to be ridiculously loud and obnoxious... they were disturbing the entire [main?] room and other tables kept looking at them. As you might imagine, the few other seated tables had to talk over the noise... the entire room was at an unbearablely loud noise level.
My partner and I stopped trying to "talk" since we had to yell at each other to just to hear. 40-minutes later, the loud, obnoxious table left. Literally, the second they left, the noise in the restaurant quickly dropped to a reasonable hum as people realized they didn't need to talk so loud. Unfortunately, at that point we were both on edge and dinner had been completely ruined! A $200+ dinner (we didn't have drinks- only food).
I am not interested in a nice, expensive restaurant where I pay premium money only to not be able to talk and enjoy my meal and who I'm with. I don't go to a restaurant to be put on edge. More importantly, I do not appreciate restaurant staff and management who don't consider ALL their customers by ensuring a pleasant dining atmosphere (in addition to good service and food). How can one enjoy themselves when in a scream-fest? Bobby Van's allowed a few guests to ruin dinner for most others. I don't know about the other guests, but we will not dine at a Bobby Van's again.
It was a lovely experience. They made my boyfriend's birthday truly special.
Great lunch spot for our party of 5 who were craving high quality normal food choices--tasty pasta dishes, yummy steak salads. Attentive service, warm environment.

I made reservations and was ushered to my seat immediately. The wait staff's service was exceptional! I would go back just for the service. My order was taken arrived promptly. I I ordered the rainbow trout which came with baby potatoes and green beans. The food was good--not great but it was well cooked and tasty enough. The portion size was more than enough.
For a high priced steakhouse, this was a complete disappointment. While we did have 3 people servicing our table, only one spoke English. That wouldn't be horrible overall except they weren't trained on their stations and responsibilities. Twice they tried to clear our courses while we were still actively eating. It wasn't busy nor were we taking a long time.
The food itself was lower quality than something you might get at the outback. We order two filets, one with shrimp and one with a crab cake. The shrimp was very good but the crab cake had a good deal of cartlidge in it. Both filets were butchered poorly and had a good deal of silver skin and gristle left on.
I have been to expensive steak houses where you were happy to spend the extra money because of the impeccable wait staff and awesome food. Unfortunately Bobby Van's is not one of those places.

Great spot for a business lunch. Usually not filled with tourists and not especially noisy. God options for everyone -- and a really impressive array of salads in addition to the usual red meat for which the Bobby Van's steak house is known. Very good.
Had dinner for two. The pan seared scallops appetizer was delicious. The steaks were excellent also. Service was very good. The waiter made good wine suggestions and was attentive without being bothersome.
A really good experience for a birthday. We got off to a bit of a slow start and the server made up for it quickly. We always enjoy coming here for its consistent good food and service and its a good location where parking is easy.
My lunch guest and I enjoyed our dining experience at Bobby Van's Grill. The food was delicious, adn the service was excellent. When my guest next visits DC, she and I will be there again.

Much prefer the grill because of the ambiance. Our group was all experienced travelers and visit many steak houses. Ruth's Chris, Del Frisco's, Dickie Brennans, Mortons, etc. Would not hesitate to recommend Bobby Van's to colleagues or customers. Thanks for an enjoyable evening and a great meal.

At Bobby Van's the waitresses are always cordial, friendly and very service oriented. I love the executive menu, it's really delicious (includes wine!!) at a very affordable price. I have also tried some other dishes and all are very good. I definitely recommend this nice restaurant.

Service was slow
The service and the food was wonderful. He also gave us a window table. I highly recommend it for lunch or dinner.
My steak was served with Shrimp on it - although I ordered it specifically without due to a shellfish allergy. To recook me a steak would have taken too long to keep pace with our business dinner. A little disappointed to not have a main course but the side orders shared with me were prepared well and offer good flavor.
Overall this was a nice location for a large group business dinner. The food and wine selection was great and it had a classic steakhouse atmosphere. I'll add that the bar area was outstanding as well.

Service was outstanding. I understand the higher cost is due to the service, and the staff delivers what's promised! My food was a bit too spicy--I ordered cajun chicken, which usually I can handle cajun, but this dish had my sinuses going. But all in all, excellent and a very nice experience!
Slow service, food was undercooked. Had two people waiting our table and they both disappeared for long periods of time. People who showed up much later than is were served their main course before my party. I will say the Brussels Sprouts and mushrooms we're good but I will not be returning.

Hostess was rude we checked in a bit early for our reservation and despite a half empty dining room was told we needed to go to the bar and return at the appointed time. No sooner did we walk back to the lounge settle down to order she appeared to tell us our table was ready. We went to the table and a waiter appeared and asked “ what do you want” it was like I was at a diner no upscale service l did t offer specials and seemed put out when we inquired. The lack luster bordering on rude service continued throughout the meal. The bathrooms were a disaster area a broken toilet seat in the garbage papers strewn all over the floor a taped up sink was out of order. One bathroom was without a toilet seat.
There are plenty of steak houses in DC pick another one that has service an atmosphere and facilities reflective of the price point. With tip our party of 3 has an animist 300 bill and I’ve had more welcoming experiences at a diner.
A local friend recommended this as an excellent place to eat in DC and the food did not disappoint! We had the gamut from steak to seafood and the bread pudding flambe for dessert. However, the service was mediocre and our waiter, Jose, seemed disinterested and, literally, threw our checks at us before our dessert even arrived. Maybe Jose was having a bad day and thought we wouldn't be good tippers. So, I recommend for the food but beware of the service.

It seems that every time I eat here we end up at a table next to the front door. Not the best experience but I made my reservation same day so that’s probably why.
The steak in the steak salad was ‘grey’ looking and I should have sent it back. I’ve ordered this salad before and the steak is never cooked to order. For example medium is not rare :) I think you may want to consider some QA on that.
One of my guests order soup and salad and asked that they arrive together with the rest of our meals. The soup arrived as an appetizer which is not what she requested.
We walked in through the bar and out through the bar and the bartender was super friendly. He greeted us when we came in and when we were leaving. He seemed genuine and it was a nice touch.
