Bobby Van's Grill - New York Ave.
Bobby Van's Grill is the sister eatery of the highly acclaimed Bobby Van’s Steakhouse from New York City. This eclectic 550-seat New American Steakhouse Grill boasts a slightly more casual and family-friendly atmosphere that also caters to Washington politicians.
Bobby Van’s Grill has a very loyal following of patrons who appreciate its first-rate, dry-aged steaks and seafood, phenomenal wine list, and exceptional professional wait staff – many of whom have worked for Bobby Van’s Grill for more than 12 years. Its new menu also features classic sandwiches and table-side cocktail preparation.
Boasting the largest private dining space of any restaurant in DC, Bobby Van’s Grill can accommodate guests in 7 different rooms! In the fall of 2018, it unveiled a newly renovated atrium (now known as The Atrium @ Bobby Van’s) that accommodates up to 330 people for private events.

Yummy! The scallops were delicious! Thanks so much!
Food was great and service was excellent. Will return
It’s was the worst Valentines Day every. They offered a prefix menu which they ran out of everything or prepared wrong. Ran out of Cognac. Brung wrong dishes to the table. Server basically offered us to leave by saying it’s other restaurants nearby who kitchens still open. Never returning here again.
The steak wasn’t season well
Celebrating Valentine’s Day with my wife. Parking a bit of a challenge. External = below average. Assume it was associated with development. Staff courteous. Could have been better, but enjoyed the evening overall.
Delicious food! The atmosphere was excellent for our Valentine's dinner out
The service & food at Bobby Van’s are absolutely excellent! This was my second time going and it absolutely did not disappoint. I purchased a Groupon to make the experience more affordable and was able to use it for their Valentine’s Day Special, $90 for a 3 course meal, where I enjoyed Bang Bang Shrimp, Crab Mac & Cheese, Cajun Ribeye, and a Strawberry Brownie Cheesecake. I did ask for extra Cajun sauce to make increase the spice & flavor of the steak, after doing so the steak was excellent! The staff went above and beyond to make sure that I was comfortable during my visit and the wait for my food wasn’t long at all. Without the Groupon , I wouldn’t have gone, but I’m happy that I did!
The food was great. The steaks were cooked to perfection!! The heart shaped crab cake added a little extra to our Valentine's Day celebration. We will definitely return.
We dined there for Valentine’s Day and the food was outstanding!! Enjoyed the Bone-in Ribeye with Asparagus & Brussel Sprouts. We were seated by the window with a beautiful view of the city. Will definitely dine there again on our next visit to DC.
The food was horrible! The steak was overcooked. The Valentine’s Menu was horrible.
Just great food all around
I always enjoy my experience at Bobby Van’s Grill.
I rated the noise level moderate, but that was mainly because my table of seven is always loud, so but for us, it would have been rated low noise level. Food is delicious, cooked as requested, and properly priced for area and quality. Starters were two salads, and three French onion soups. Salads were large enough, but not overly large, because isn’t the main point that you save room for the star protein? The French Onion was thick with onions, broth was dark brown (this is a must.) if your French Onion is opaque and not impossible to see through brown, send it back. These were perfect. We had 4 10oz filet mignon, 2 salmon, and a hangar steak. All properly cooked (they staff frowns upon ordering anything well done, but everything was done well.) Sides were Brussels sprouts (delicious), sautéed spinach (delicious with chunks of garlic), and garlic mashed. Definitely enough to share between two, and possibly three people. Dessert was delicious and visually impressive. I had the pineapple and chocolate mousse in a made-from-chocolate tea cup. Fun and delicious. Definitely on my list for a return visit next time I am in DC.
STAFF is helpful and attentive without being overbearing. When we needed the waiter, he always seemed to be nearby. And when we didn’t, he was invisible to us. We are a “tough” table of NY/NJ union officials so we are sarcastic and (at least to us - HILARIOUS), and LOUD, but everyone at the restaurant was kind and professional. 25% tip was well-deserved
Salad was okay, but just okay. Waiter seemed rushed about everything even though it was not busy. Took our bread plates away before we were ready, rushed our orders, then disappeared for a long time before we could get our check. Of course, he took the paid check off our table before we actually left the restaurant which seemed tacky. I won't rush back.
Good service and food was great. I try to come here when I’m in town
Bobby Van’s Grill is always excellent.
Great food and service. Worth every penny!
Great food. Nice atmosphere. The older white male waiters were slow and inefficient. The younger females were awesome.
We had yet another amazing experience at your dining facility. Victor, our waiter, was outstanding as always. Very good food, speed of service, and price.
he steak was excellent, the salad and dressing only so-so.
I took myself out to celebrate a personal milestone. I was curious about Bobby Van’s.
The experience and service seemed dated. The water is represented as tap water, which gives an oft-putting feel. I want staff to seem well-cared for, well-fed. Everyone seemed exhausted.
The rolls weren’t warm, seemed packaged rather than fresh.
The salad was great, fresh, tasteful.
The steak was disappointing. When I order a Cajun ribeye at Smith & Wollensky or Ruth Chris, it’s costed one spice. When I order Pittsburgh style, it’s charred a lot on the outside. The steak at Bobby Van’s was barely charged and quite rare rather than medium rare.
The creen brûlée was thick instead of light.
Glad I tried it, but I won’t be back.
The food was good. But unfortunately, not a good experience.
Food was delicious, well-prepared and staff was attentive.
Everything from the time we walked in Bobby Van’s doors was absolutely wonderful down to the deliciously perfect duck!
Bobby Van's Restaurant is one of my favorite in the area. I especially like the bar area for happy hour after work with people I work with and we always have a blast.
I love Bobby Van’s and try to find an excuse to go there anytime I’m in DC. Steaks are great, service is top-notch and ambience is enjoyable.
Overall one of the best steaks that I have had. Three of us dined here and we were all pleased. The service was excellent. I will be returning.
There was a lot of fruit flies around the table. One flew into my moms salad and one flew onto my main course. I had to ask my server to remake my meal to go.
The steaks were delicious! The mixed drinks left much to be desired; some were too strong while others had nearly zero alcohol, very inconsistent. The place was undergoing some construction and a little loud, but we had a nice night.
Nice quiet place. Friendly service. Super wine list with large portions of excellent steak!
I went to Bobby Van‘s grill on a quiet Sunday night for dinner. Normally when I go I have a steak, which they are known for. This time I opted for the duck which was amazing. I had four nice pieces of duck breast on a delicious sweet potato purée, accompanied by two duck sausages, and two pieces of duck bacon which is absolutely the best bacon I have ever had. I also have the Asian pear salad which is the most delicious salad I’ve ever eaten and their brussels sprouts which were excellent. They are doing some work on the exterior of the building which doesn’t affect the food or the ambience but they did have some drape up in the main dining room to hide the cranes and the scaffolding outside. The staff there is always on point.
The sea bass and calamari never disappoint! One of my favorite restaurants
I had an excellent server! He was outstanding and explained everything very well and was attentive.
We enjoyed the food and the service.
We went here to celebrate a friend birthday and it was 20 of us and I was concerned but our waiter was great. Everyone was waited on and served in great timing. They even accommodated us with the checks. Great experience
The food and service was great. It was a nice atmosphere on the inside. Ignore the construction on the outside of the building.
Excellent! I love the Grill much better than the restaurant, nor accommodating nice ambiance service cozy and WILL come again this time has been 3X in just a WEEK - Luv'n It ♡♡♡♡♡
Fabulous cuisine and service - we both had NY Strips which were cooked medium rare to perfection. Flavorful is an insufficient word to describe the taste - superbly seasoned cut might be a bit closer to an accurate description. The service was attentive without being intrusive. Both the cuisine and the service more than made up for the mediocre venue. The open room atmosphere is fine until it fills up beyond half capacity. With nothing on the walls or floor to absorb the noise, it’s difficult to hear anyone at your own table. But the reverberating sound of a child crying on the opposite side of the room could be heard as if right next to us. Of less significance, our exceptional server returned sheepishly to advise that the bartender couldn’t honor our after dinner drink request for VSOP brandy - of any variety. That was a first to hear of a steakhouse bereft of brandy! Despite the elevated noise and the bar limitations, the steaks, accompaniments and service ably made for a most enjoyable dining experience.
When you make a reservation for NYE, this is not what is expected. Granted, we did make our reservation LATE, but I would highly recommend that Bobby Van's, and ANY other restuarant, NOT open an 'overflow' room. Yes, like the overflow room in your church, that is exactly where my husband and I dined. The service was EXTREMELY slow, the lights were bright, there was NO music playing, and we were seated with just one other couple. Given the silence and ZERO ambiance, we were able to completely hear each other's conversations. First, it took our server 10-15 minutes to even come to our table, drinks arrived 20 minutes after being ordered. The lobster cocktail was the SMALLEST lobster I had ever seen. The lobster tail I purchased on sale at Whole Foods for $6 had more meat than this entire lobster, that didn't even take up a quarter of the large dish of crushed ice it came in. This experience was DISAPPOINTING to say the least. My husband and I ordered 1 last drink and decided to leave the 'cafeteria' atmosphere that we were eating in, and went to the bar. Which was JUST as disappointing or MORE, as the waiters were cashing out their tips with the bartender, and the bar was completely empty. Note to self: NEVER go to Bobby Van's Grill for a romantic evening.
It was New year's Eve, so the place was busy. However, we were taken care of exceptionally well and had a good time. Steaks were GREAT!! Drinks were good, too!
