   We make a tradition of going to Bobby Van’s every time we go to NYC. Maybe because my wife’s name is Vanessa Vann!

   I was visiting on my birthday with theatre after and Central Park Zoo before. The server seated me and asked if I’d like some water.. then he brought out a 39 oz bottle of S Pelegrino sparkling water which I would later learn was $14.. this put me off purchasing other drinks due to its size and presumed cost. I also asked for lemon for it and he brought me limes.. the table next to me got lemon.. just not me The menu differed a little from the online one and the prices hadn’t be updated online either. When I asked for the Theatre menu the server didn’t know what I was talking although it’s listed on a board outside the restaurant. He had to ask if it was available. It differed from the online one so my choices were very basic for lunch. I got the chicken Milanese.. a thinly pounded chicken cutlet. A miserable side salad of spring mix with cut up cherry tomatoes and I had asked for an onion soup which the server had said was the soup de jour along with the tomato soup but he said it wasn’t what comes with the theatre menu so tomato it was. Halfway through dinner management came over to ask if it was really my birthday.. as if I’d lie when it’s easy to verify by ID. The server presented me with a slice of cheesecake and a sung happy birthday to me. It was memorable as the whole experience was memorable and mostly a waste of a birthday lunch. Of note.. the server changed the tablecloth on the table in front of me by just putting a new tablecloth over what appeared to be a stained one.. which pretty much summed up my experience. I advise going elsewhere because prices are unexpected and inflated and offerings are basic

   Hello. I am sorry to read this. I was the manager who asked if it was your birthday. I was not asking because I thought even for a second that you were lying. I simply wanted to recognize your special day. I did ask how everything was going because, again, it was your birthday and I wanted to make sure everything was going well. I do wish you had shared some of your observations with me then instead of posting here, but, these are the times we live in. I requested a piece of cake with a candle for you because we should all blow out a candle on our birthday. If you had a spare moment, I would love to discuss with you further. Again, my apologies.    We had to send 2 steaks back to kitchen, horrible experience for a business meal.

   The food was delicious!!! But the service was not what you would expect The hostess was very friendly and seated us in a timely manner - even wishing me a happy birthday. But that’s where the pleasant experience ended The server was brusque, in a hurry to take our order, disinterested in answering questions about the menu, tried to clear the plates before we were done eating and out glasses before we were done drinking (And the restaurant was empty so it wasn’t like they needed the table) I’d be back for the food and just hope I got a different waiter

   First time that the filet here was tough, fatty and overcooked. The service was lacking and the general food lousy. As long time patrons, sorry to say that we won’t be back.

   Overall the food and service were pretty good. Now this may seem trivial but when I asked them to decant a $200 bottle of wine you would think by their reaction it was first they had ever heard of that request. After 5-10 minute search they finally found a massive decanter designed for a double magnum. It was the only one they could find. Very strange.

    Great steak, and the service was awesome. Quite atmosphere to enjoy a nice dinner.
