Bobby Van's Grill - 50th Street
The French onion soup and stuffed shrimp (with crabmeat) was excellent. Service was very good (some wait staff are simply better at hosting a table but all are very good). A very good traditional steakhouse, although the 46th/Park location is still the best of the BVs.
We were a bit disappointed in our experience despite our servers intentions to make it great. We expected it to be more lively for a Friday night in NYC. It was pretty quiet. Our server was great, but my filet mignon ordered medium came out well done. The Manager offered a free dessert or round of drinks (of which we opted for the drinks) but I would’ve preferred not to pay for the $50 filet. Overall it was just ok. Wouldn’t rush to come back.
Everything was perfect...as always.
Great choice near the theaters. Get the hanger steak or pasta.
‘‘Twas such a quiet night unexpectedly. Loved everything about the meal, fantastic experience.
overall great experience - food and service were great, the only thing is that the tables were so close together that we could hear everyone’s conversations which made the experience not great. Would come back potentially with a larger group where we have a separate table and not seated next to people on both sides
Good food, good service, big drinks, nice place, good location! What could be bad?
Great! Food was delicious
The portions are a bit on the big side, but the food is delicious!
Reserved a table to celebrate NYE in NY with my family, one of the best dining decisions we made as food was incredible. The steak was cooked to perfection and other dishes were just as good
Highly recommend if you’re in town and want a great steak!
Outstanding for NYE! High quality food. Lobster Mac that may change your life
We happened to book this for the busiest night of the year in New York on the day. While we had to negotiate various check points it was definitely worth it. We both had the sirloin steak which defeated both of us(see pic). Tiramisu to share. Measures for G and T was generous and the coffee especially the Irish coffee was a perfect end to our evening. Staff were superb very knowledgeable of ingredients and menu. The restaurant itself is a gem not what you would expect on a thoroughfare which is usually American fare e.g TGI. This is a gem of a find and we are sure to visit again.
Delicious food. Great service. Beautiful atmosphere
First time in NYC
1 meal of 4 took 3 times to get correct. Filet was 30% fat which could not be eaten. "Oscar style" was cold but at least steak was hot. Waiter was not welcoming or personable. Timing of meal was not presented well such as after-dinner tea/coffee served well after dessert & we had to ask twice for it. Also, one of employees was using foul language in restaurant about another employee as we walked one of our children towards restroom. People next to us had poor experience as well & complained. It was not all that crowded to even potentially explain such a poor performance. Past experiences have been much better.
I took my daughter and granddaughters to Bobby Vans. They had never been to N Y before this. The conversation after dinner was not all the Xmas lights but the terrific food, service and the waiter Mike K. at the restaurant. We will be back. The girls won’t let me forget.
Excellent. Tony our waiter was great.
Excellent dinner Pre theatre. Would go again in a minute!
Nice waiter. A classic restaurant. Perfect beef and meat. Highly recommend it for a date. Very acceptable for people with disabilities.
We went for Christmas dinner. It was a nice meal. Good steak, nice salad. I’m not sure it was completely worth the price. Our service started out great, but I could see our waiter struggle as the dinner crew poured in his section to keep up with our two party. Another server stepped in after a while and he did a great job.
Relaxing Christmas Dinner with the family. Everyone enjoyed their dinner and the service was excellent
Benn coming here for years. Doesn't disappoint. Porterhouse is nearly as good as Lugers. Seafood is excellent as our salads and homemade pastas. Drinks are large. BV has something for everyone and is rock steady.
Made a reservation with out-of-town relatives for a festive Christmas Eve dinner. Night started out with hostess not seating me at the table with my relatives (I spotted them). The food was just mediocre. I ordered a drink - my relatives wanted to order drinks but the waiter left. My filet mignon came out nearly raw instead of medium well; had to ask for a steak knife; the Italian dishes were uninspired to say the least. The staff was aggressive about taking away utensils and dinnerware -- even though the place was not full. Trying to catch a waiter's attention was a challenge. Overall a disappointing and expensive experience that I won't repeat.
Waited at the bar for our table to be ready. Given it was just a few days before Christmas, the bar was way under staffed. Took forever to get bartender’s attention. Then disappointed to discover they were out of ginger beer for a Moscow Mule (which was one of their specials). Bathroom was filthy. Water glasses were spotted. I couldn’t tell if they were water stains or dirty. New glasses were the same and one was cracked. Napkins were also missing. Finally, food took forever and we were served after a couple who ordered after us. Surprisingly, the steak and crab cake were very good.
Another fantastic meal here. They never cease to amaze me as everything is cooked to perfection. My wife ate an italian dish, Rigatoni Di Parm, that was outstanding. I had a special, NY Strip steak that was fantastic. Side dishes of Tomato and Mozzarella and Tomato and Onions that was great. Never a disappointment here, been coming here for past 6 years!
Ordered Rib Eye Med Rare and got Med Well - busy so didn't complain but disappointed. A real steak house would not do this. Maybe they were overloaded, won't be back to this location any time soon.
It was a busy Saturday night, but the staff could not be more pleasant and accommodating. Easy to have a seat at the bar while we waited for the rest of our party. The meal was AMAZING...from the soups to the main course and dessert! Our friend labeled it the best ribeye he has ever had. A great place for a great satisfying meal!
Reservation and bar service went fine. I really liked the ambiance of the place. But once seated, our waiter was pretty arrogant and aloof, did not go over any of the daily specials that were being offered (like other nearby waiters did and luckily we overheard), and generally did not attend to us very well. Food was just ok, nothing special for NYC/Times Square.
I will say that the service in this restaurant is horrible. Mainly the waiter for our table. zero point zero personality. Hopefully trying to be funny but came off rude. Waiter brought a soda and another drink to the table and my daughter thanked him. He said "why are you thanking me, I did not bring you anything?" My daughter is in her early teens and very polite.
He never checked on the table or asked how the food was, pretty much it could have been a buffet and we would have been better off. The only difference is this meal cost $200 for the 2 adults and 2 children. Food was OK at best.
I do not write reviews good or bad. So that I am, trust me this is a bad service location.
Average, nothing special
We went for "lunch" after a Saturday show. The only serve the dinner menu on weekends during the month of December. I felt that they ripped us off because of the holiday. We asked for the lunch menu and was told no. Never recommend them. We always go to Carmines!
Was awesome. Howard our waiter was terrific
Everyone was pleased with the food and service
To begin your experience just deeply inhale when you first walk in..oh! the scent of steak. You will just want it... dont leave without having one. We had the rib eye lunch special, truly exceptional value. The food is simply outstanding. Can't wait to return
Delicious steak- good service... would definitely go back if I needed to be in theater district but it’s very noisy ( though we were seated in a back room that was somewhat quieter) We enjoyed dinner and will return.
Went to celebrate the visit of a dear friend from New Zealand to the USA and also his birthday. We had an amazing meal and a great time together.
Fantastic steak and huge portions - impossible not to leave satisfied!
Great food, good Times Square location and fantastic service!
Our party all went with steaks. The special with bacon and bourbon glaze was outstanding! The service was wonderful. Will definitely go back
