About Bobby Van's Grill - 50th Street
The combination of a traditional American grill combined with the classic elements of a first-rate steak house best describes Bobby Van’s fourth New York City location. Run by the same four partners who have been awarded Tom Horan’s American Top Ten Steakhouses in each of the past three years, the Grill caters to those seeking the legendary Bobby Van’s Porterhouse as well as lighter dishes such as pastas, salads and fish. All served with the renowned service that has been Bobby Van’s hallmark from its beginnings in 1969. As partner Joseph Hickey said “We’re all about pure, unadulterated customer happiness."

Bobby Van's Grill - 50th Street Ratings and Reviews
Five of us for dinner, none of us impressed. None of the steaks ordered were tender and the skirt steak was tough as leather! Service was poor forgetting and bringing ordered items late. Price was exceptionally high in relationship to the quality of the food. Will not go back to this restaurant.
Overall we had a so-so experience. I liked the ambience and felt the restaurant had an authentic New York feel. The food we ordered was actually very good - across a range of entrees including home made pasta, steak and burgers. The issue was with the service. We were met and guided to a table by a very cold individual. My friend had to actually ask for the menus, no steak knife was provided, we had to ask twice for extra condiments, there was no check in to see if everything was alright and no attention to whether we needed more drinks. Basically there was no attention to service at all. So not somewhere I would go back to or recommend based on the service.
We had not been back to Bobby Van's Grill in months -- far too long, primarily because my company relocated. When we learned that dear friends from law school would meet us, we immediately recommended Bobby Van's Grill for our gathering and we were not disappointed. Everyone was extra kind to us and Derrick, our wait person, made sure that we felt welcome and all our needs were met. Everything was wonderful and the food was absolutely out of this world. I often tell my friends that BVG is the place that serves great steak, but equally amazing seafood. We had some of everything and were very, very pleased. We cannot wait to return!
Had a great meal here. Excellent steaks but we over ordered the sides as we were not made aware some of the specials had sides included. Great service, friendly staff but surprised how empty the restaurant was on a Friday night, booked on-line & only time we could get was 8:30 pm, when we arrived restaurant was pretty empty and was never busy. Would recommend the Rib-eye if you have a big appetite.
The Calamari was excellent. I had NY sirloin, generous & tasty. My companion had the ravioli, also very good.
My complaint is, that inspite of Bobby Van's being nearly empty on a Saturday night at 9PM, the waiters, while pleasant were ready to clear our table immediately after we put our forks down. They clearly didn't comprehend the meaning of the fork & knife crossed into an X indicates that I wasn't finished. It was as if they were expecting a deluge of diners to descend upon them. Even though the nearby theatre crowd had passed the restaurant when their show/s were over.
Window seating provided a great people watching spot.
I will not return.
Booked this at the last minute for our wedding anniversary and ate on the early side, pre-show. I had checked off on our Open Table reservation that it was our anniversary and immediately after we were seated, the host brought out complimentary Prosecco for my husband and me. It was a very nice touch and we greatly appreciated it. We had the calamari with Thai peanut sauce, I had the sea bass and my husband had the pork chops, all of which were excellent - we were stuffed. It was a nice treat and well worth it.
The service is exemplary, as is the ambience. However, the food leaves something to be desired -- under any circumstances, much less when compared to other Bobby Van's. I ate there twice in the past two weeks (as well as one time at the 45th St Van's). Both times there was an issue with the food. First time the baked potato was practically raw and wasn't replaced til the rest of our meal was finished. The staff were more than gracious and solicitous about this faux pax. The second time the steak was not tender (as it was at lunch on 45th) and the mashed potatoes were cold, so it was hard to tell if they had any flavor. I was able to eat them but without relish, and did not inform the staff. For a full meal I'll go elsewhere, but for cocktails and an appetizer, I will try 50th St again.
Went with my husband and son, pre theatre. Service was attentive, wait staff all very friendly. Menu selection a surprise for a steak house. You can get a burger, seafood, even pizza...or yes several selections of steak! It is pricy. I chose it for the varied menu, for my son. He ordered the veal parmigiana and loved it (mega portion). I had the shrimp, seared scallops and lobster over linguini - excellent!
Amazing! Had the lamb and my boyfriend had the filet mignon and they were delicious!! It was also my bfs bday and I put in the special request spot when making the reservation that I would like a he's desert brought out with a candle and they honored it. Without me having to do the fake sneak to the br bit. Overall amazing food and good vibes!
The food was amazing and Gin Drop was perfect. The staff was very attentive but the people at the bar we're very noisy at times. The flat iron steak, bacon cheddar mashed potatoes, filet mignon and sorbet were perfect. A great Restaurant Week I definitely will be back.
