About Boathouse at Breach Inlet

Poised at the breach between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic, you can enjoy a meal amongst the spectacular sunset views and balmy ocean breezes of the Isle of Palms. Boathouse at Breach Inlet Ratings and Reviews
We have always enjoyed our visits to the Boathouse. The best time is during daylight hours to enjoy a spectacular water view. Day or night, the restaurant has a pleasant ambiance, a nautical decor, and valet parking, convenient on busy evenings. Service is always friendly and the food reliably good. If I had to find something to improve it would be the addition of place mats, always my personal preference.
We decided at the last minute to blowout 2017 with a great dinner and wanted Lobster. Was able to get a reservation for 7 and had an amazing meal. Lobster was cooked perfectly and there were 3 split tails which was pretty filling. Liked that some people were dressed formal and some in jeans. Only wish it would have been light enough to enjoy the view. We'll be back this Summer!
Having gone to the Boathouse for special occasions in the past, I made a reservation for Christmas eve. I specified when reserving through Open Table, that I was bringing a newlywed couple and that I'd appreciate a special table. I was embarassed to be escorted to a table smack in the middle of the room, no atmosphere, no booth, no view. I'd even cut out an article recently written about the Boathouse for the newlyweds to see before we dined there.
After I gathered my wits together, I calmly went to the hostesses and asked if they were sure I was seated at the correct table. After much exploring on the computer and conferring with a man who studied the computer and discussed table numbers with the hostesses, I was moved to a different, better table. There was no sign that anyone recognized that I had requested a table for this special occasion. There was no apology when I asked if it was intended for us to sit in the table we were first assigned. There was no eye contact from the man at the computer who changed our seating to another table. Still, never any sign that there was anything about us that warranted a nice table. The restaurant had plenty of other tables available that were better than the first one we were led to. I had reserved far in advance. I spoke to someone in person who called to confirm the reservation.
After years of special occasions and reservations at the Boathouse, I still don't know what it would take to warrant a seat at one of the other available tables that we didn't get considered for when we arrived.
I thought my seafood pasta was excellent. I thought a guest's scallops had a bad after-taste. I thought my cosmopolitan was mediocre at best.
When I told a local friend I'd made reservations at the Boathouse, she asked if I'd been there lately because her last dinner there was not as good as her past experience.
Food was over priced and small quanties ! Lobster was just a taste for about four oz! Less than 12 ounces total of seafood ! For $30 . Quality good not great ! $2 upcharge to put pimento cheese in grits ! I can understand making a dollar . But this place is frozen at its best . Knock Price down a little and we are good!coldand dark but great place !
This was our third visit to the Boathouse at Breach Inlet. This place NEVER disappoints. The valet parking is free, service is always impeccable and the food is divine. I always try the side of the day, which was fried eggplant this last visit, and it's always delicious. And if you're there when they open you can visit the rooftop bar and watch the porpoises come into the intracoastal!
I was very pleased that The Boathouse menu selections and food were even better than my recollection of years past. I enjoyed a wonderful dinner of grilled grouper and each of my two friends raved about their meal of mussels. In fact I plan to return tomorrow being with my husband, who loves mussels.
This Sunday the restaurant was almost empty but we sat on the deck as it was enclosed with heaters. This was fine until guests were seated at the next table 1/2 way through our meal and had the gas heater cranked up. The meal was good but the shrimp and grits I usually love was rather greasy. They gave us a dessert for 5 of us to taste for my wife's birthday.
We stayed in area over the weekend. Had several locals tell us to eat at The Boat House!! We found out that we do not like butter poached lobster, the sweet potatos and crab cakes were not that great. The water view with boats is what we enjoy, that was great. The food for $30 a plate, not that great. Sorry Boat House we are going to stick with seafood in FL. Phil
Dining for four celebrating an anniversary. Each of us chose from the fresh fish selection. Food was very good and tasted quite fresh. Only negative was getting charged for 2 beers when ordering a Black and Tan. We have enjoyed that beer selection at over 50 restaurants (for years and years) and Never Ever been charged for 2 beers for something in one glass. My husband will not probably not dine there again.
We have eaten at the Boathouse several times through the years and had good experiences. It has a great view when the sun is out. However, the last couple of times we've been (once every 2 years) the quality has declined. The food used to be much better. Service was good. Other restaurants in the area have upped their game, the Boathouse has just upped its prices.
Every few years, we think this restaurant has changed for the better. Once again, we were wrong. Food was at best fair, very over priced and not great. Service was good. Disappointed, we spend so much time at Wild Dunes. This restaurant could be amazing, but isn't.
My twin sister and her husband were over from England to celebrate our birthday . We thought of downtown Charleston but after taking them down there for a look round , they decided that it would be too busy for them , so I decided to book at The Boathouse , as we live in Mt P ...it was a good decision as we had lots of choice , we had Fried Green Tomato for starters as they had never had it and we thought it was a southern starter , fish linguini , fried fish dinner [ ouster , flounder and scallops ] shrimp and grits and barrel fish special ......all dishes were great , service was very good and so was wine and beer .....so we had a great night
Husband and I went on a date dirong our vacation in Charleston. Was welcomed with complimentary valet. Food was great and we sat on the deck outside. Wished the deck windows weren't covered. Very noisy. You got used to it after a while though. All in all a great evening!
Started with cocktails on the roof to watch the amazing sunset and it was just lovely. Then our group of 5 was unexpectedly called 15 minutes early for our table! For my 50th birthday it was wonderful service and even better food! I had the crab stuffed grouper special with collards and it was just delectable. Cliff was an excellent server and could not have been better. And as an added touch Cliff brought a lovely dessert to end my birthday evening. Big thanks to Decker for a perfect wine! Will most definitely make this our go to restaurant.
