Staff was attentive and food was flavorful but the timing/delivery of our different dishes was out of order.
Donna at the door and Joshua our server were both great, as were the 2 parking attendants
We’ll be back!!
Horrible weather but it added to the ambiance.
Great location to catch the sunset. Food and drinks are quite worthy, although the drinks were awfully slow in coming each round. Fun atmosphere, and one of the better meals on IOP.
We had several bad meals in the past but friends wanted to go there last week. We ordered the broiled seafood dinner... both meals (shrimp, scallops and lobster) were totally tasteless. We also ordered the fish paste appetizer it was awful.
We would not recommend the boathouse at all !!! About 15 years ago it used to be good but it no longer is, we will never go back!!!!
This was our 4th or 5th trip to the Boathouse & we were really looking forward to some fresh seafood & I was hoping they would have Wahoo, as I’ve had it here before & it has turned out to be my favorite. Unfortunately, The scallops were soft/mushy & the Wahoo was so dry/overcooked that I couldn’t eat it. The server did not ask how we enjoyed the meal, nor did he ask why the Wahoo was left uneaten, especially given the fact that I was raving about the Wahoo prior to dining. Very disappointed. Will not be going back.
Anniversary dinner for two. The food was bland and, as far as service goes, our waiter was very congenial but hamstrung by the large crowds walking through the restaurant and awaiting service at the bar, and by whoever was expediting in the kitchen that evening. Our salads arrived after a 30 minute wait and then, 10 minutes later our entrées were served. We refused the entrées and sent them back to the kitchen as well as requested a fresh entrée when we completed our salad course. We had specifically asked that the entrée not be fired until we had completed the salad course.
If you of the sunset from this restaurant is very beautiful but this is my third and last attempt to enjoy an evening at this restaurant
We are locals that haven't been to the Boathouse in a few years. We had reservations for New Years Eve but had to cancel. So, on Friday night we decided to make up for the cancellation.
I love the location and the atmosphere inside. The rooftop bar has the best sunset views in warmer weather.
I want to love this restaurant, but the food is disappointing. The fried calamari appetizer desperately needed a dipping sauce. Maybe I shouldn't have ordered lobster tails because they aren't locally caught, but I had a craving. What I got were six little tails like the ones I have seen in the grocery store seafood section that usually sell for about $3 each. They had very little flavor. My husband got steak and lobster tails, so he had the same experience, including a bland steak. My side of collard greens were delicious, but that's not enough to satisfy a $45 dollar plate.
I really wanted to love this dinner!
Great food, great service. Sun in the eyes until sunset was tough.
Very attentive wait staff. Food was delicious
Great food. Michael our server took good care of us. Thank you
Beautiful location. It was unfortunate the food didn’t live up to expectation. It was way overpriced for the quality of the food that came out of the kitchen. Our steak was over cooked, the seafood was just OK and the service was average. I never mind paying $30 for a filet, but when you order medium-well and it comes out very well-done & then medium-rare on the re-fire you are not serving the customer a $30 steak.
Service was great!! We wanted to try everything on the menu. Fried green tomatoes and hush puppies for appetizers were great. We had crab cakes and steak for our main course and it was delicious. Our server was attentive and took great care of us. Will be back the next time we are in town.
We were there for dinner with family that was visiting. Wait time for food was very long. Prices were very high for dinner. Lunch is better because of the views of the Intercoastal Waterway. Probably will not eat dinner there again but will go for brunch or lunch. I recommend not going to this restaurant if you don't have the time to wait on the food and you are hungry....but the upside is it gives you more time to visit with Friends or Family. Noise level high though.
The food was amazing everything ordered was delicious. Our server Michael was phenomenal!
Awesome fresh local seafood!
A bit pricey but you're paying for the waterfront location as much as the dining. We had a excellent waiter that was a big plus to the dinner. If you like seafood, they do a good job. Nice flavors and presentation. A worthy restaurant for a nice dinner that won't be disappointing.
I’ve been here at least 15 times. Tonight was very disappointing . I think it’s under new management .
Portions were very small ... very small , we always had leftovers but not this time .
Fish was a quarter of the size that they used to serve and the glasses of wine ( I had 2 ) were a very small pour .. maybe 3 ozs for $10 a glass.
No garnishes on the plates .. no tomato relish with the oysters . I asked the server why they didn’t have PEI mussels on the menu and was told “ they are changing up the menu “. It’s obvious they are cutting back and getting cheap
So very disappointed .. this was my favorite place on the water and I would always bring my out of town guests here.
One more try and if they don’t get their act together I will never dine there again ...
.. I called for a reservation and the person on the phone was rude. They said that if I “wanted to take a chance “ my reservation that I made on Open Table for two .. was ok but they would not be able to take 4. I told her to cancel my reservation and she was very happy to do so and hung up on me . I went back to Open Table and got a reservation for 4 at the same time .
I hope things change or this will just be another tourist trap with small portions and crappy food .
Food was bland and portions very small we left hungry
I had shrimp linguine husband has shrimp and grits between both our dishes we had a total of 8 shrimp
There was some very fatty bacon mixed into mine his had rubbery sasuage
This place is not as good as it was even 5 years ago
With so many good restaurants in Chas we will not be going back
Excellent food and service. We had a great time there. We will definitely go back again!
The staff at the hostess station was extremely rude upon arrival, they just opened at 5:00 pm and we arrived at 5:10 and we had a reservation for 5:15, the little young girl said it’s early your reservation isn’t until 5:15 so we have 3 bars you can hang there until we’re ready for you. All the while the entire restaurant is vacant and the waiters/waitresses are just standing around doing nothing. Once we finally got seated our waiter was nice and the food was great! We would go back again just hoping for a better greeting and accommodations upon arrival!
We've been to the Boathouse several times over the years. This visit was lack luster and underwhelming. Our server was nice and attentive, however the food was less than average. We've have always looked forward to eating there, however this was our last visit.
Food great. Very loud.
Not good. The seafood was either over cooked, completely bland, or both. I've eaten here in the past and had decent meals. But unfortunately tonight was just not good. We were a party of 5, and all of us were disappointed in some aspect of our meal. It really sucks paying $200 for a sub par meal. Bummed!
Great diner and great server. Everything was quite nice
Good food nice location, can get crowded on Friday and Sat nights
Our party of four each got something different for our dinner. None of us was impressed. One person's "spring chicken" was very dry. I ordered Crab cakes which contained as much crab as could fill one claw, the rest was filler. The side items were hot but very small.
Our waiter did a great job however and the noise and atmosphere were great.
This was our third time to the Boathouse; our first was last summer and I remember the dinner being very good. Each consecutive visit has been lacking. We're done!
Views amazing. Service great. Food above average but not as spectacular as I had remembered it over the years.
Great place to visit and see the sunset while dining on the water. The food is fresh and very good, their wahoo was outstanding. They stay pretty busy so keep that in mind and have a drink from the rooftop while you wait!
Excellent seafood, good service, great way to start our Isle of Palms vacation.
Tables we were sat at were way to close together. Didn’t really feel like dining w strangers on Easter.
Nice Easter Brunch Vibe. The cocktails where flowing and the food was okay.
The food was overpriced and just ok. We went for waterfront experience, but felt packed like sardines inside. It felt like a generic Red Lobster atmosphere, but Red Lobster’s food is probably better. Servers were friendly and service was fast, but over all it was a very bland experience and nothing exceptional stood out about this restaurant other than the fact that the food was very overpriced.
Great! Joel serving for over 15 Years. Great service by great employees. Thanks for a great birthday celebration.
Top notch local seafood! Loved everything we tried.
Worst experience ever...reservation at 7:15pm, seated on time. Drinks and food orders places at 7:20pm. By 8:15pm still waiting on food despite tables around who arrived after us been served. Ended up having to leave without being served our meal. Our waitress was very apologetic and understanding. Very understaffed and not ready for a "busy" night in March....good luck getting served during a real busy night during the summer..
I always recommend the Boathouse restaurant to all my guests. The food is delish and the atmosphere is great! The staff is very pleasant.
Great as Always!! One of very favorite restaurants in Charleston!
Trouble in the kitchen. Food was very good when I finally received; there were five at our table, the kitchen missed my order. Everyone at my table finished dinner before I received my plate (fried flounder, shrimp, oysters...nothing special). Felt sorry for the poor server; I blame the manager. The restaurant bought me a glass of wine and my dinner so they made it right, however, I was amazed that the manager did not break the order line and have my plate made as to eat with my family.
Quintessential tourist destination, although on the inlet the view is limited by clouded plastic that serves as windows. Food was overpriced (over $100 for two) and mediocre at best. There are other options close by that offer a much better experience. Service was good and the server pleasant.
