If you’re looking for a low key dinner this is the place. If you’re looking for excellent food, this is not the place. Probably best for the rooftop bar at sunset.
Grits were excellent. Fish was salty and buerre bland sauce far too heavy and creamy. Nice ambiance but the space feels tired.
Server was dull, but he wasn't with the table next to us, because it was a bigger party with lots of alcohol. He was a completely a different person with them.
Food was not like I remembered...it was super noisy , couldn't carry on a conversation with my family.
great time at the Boathouse. The service was very good. I had a seafood trio with shrimp, scallops, and lobster. The shrimp and scallops were outstanding but the lobster was steamed just a little too much but was still good. We enjoyed our meal and had drinks at the rooftop bar. I would highly recommend both.
Great service and food! A bit overpriced, but worth it.
Best experience I’ve had at the boathouse. Our server Decker was great, excellent service and timing. He did appear to be quite busy, but it didn’t compromise his service.
Had grilled mahi-mahi,it was very good. The cheese grits and succotash sides were great. My wife was pleased with her crab cakes, couldn’t finish, so I helped. They were quite good.
I am definitely moving this up my list of restaurants to eat at in the area.
Excellent food and was able to accommodate a person with both a gluten and dairy allergy with no issues. We will be back!
Overpriced and overrated. Food is pricey and mediocre at best. The poached seafood combo was tasteless and the shrimp and grits were piled high with soggy over cooked red peppers. We tried that dish at 4 different places around Charleston and this was by far the worst. Mixed drinks were watered down - my Old Fashioned wasn’t even worth drinking. The wines by the glass options were some of the cheapest and most pedestrian I’ve come across (although the wines by the bottle were good). While the atmosphere was fun I would recommend eating here. Just have a drink and stick with beer.
Servers attention was lacking. Food was average, about middle of the road, and pricey for that quality.
Not good, not bad, just eh.
Great dining experience. Food was perfect. I would highly recommend if you're in the area to visit the Boathouse restaurant.
Don’t get the Mac and cheese food was delicious and views were great
The food was delicious and the staff were very accommodating. We arrived with an extra person and they kindly rearranged a table to give us an extra chair. The tuna was so good, we ordered a second portion!
Great overall experience! Food and service was phenomenal
The restaurant is situated on the water and fortunately we were seated on the patio with a water view. If you are seated inside, your view won’t as good. The hostess was struggling using the check in software and as a result it delayed seating. The restaurant was empty when we arrived (10 minutes prior to our reservation) and she refused to check us in until our reservation time. We were told to go wait somewhere else. When we came back 10 minutes later, she was already seating people whose reservation was after ours. Although our initial impression wasn’t good, once we received our food we were pleased with our meals. Our whole family had nothing left on our plates and the food was well prepared. Our waiter was also very nice & knowledgeable regarding the menu.
Beautiful view and attentive service. We never felt rushed and loved our meal. Highly recommend this place.
Food was delicious. Server was exceptionally kind and attentive despite a super busy Friday night crowd.
Steak was a little over but it was very busy. Great ambiance and enjoyed our girls night.
Great waitress and food
Our server was great, but the food has declined since the early days. My daughter and I had the fried shrimp plate which was fine and hard to mess up, but my wife and our friends had the scallops & risotto which tasted like it was out most of the evening. It was pretty hard and too salty. Also, our friends' son ordered the she crab soup and it was very watery. Last, my wife also had the mashed potatoes which used to be awesome but have fallen off.
In short, The Boathouse used to be a great place even though it's expensive, but lately the prices have stayed high but the quality has fallen off.
Delicious meal with two exceptions, the She Crab Soup wasn’t that great and they were out of hush puppies!!! The soup was extremely thick and “gritty” with a little bit of crab in it. Other than that it was a great meal.
Horrible service, food was over cooked and all our orders were wrong.
We had an anniversary meal that was cold, chewy and massively overpriced. My husband’s steak was chewy, his crab cake had more bread than crab, and my seafood dish arrived cold. For $34 I expect more than 4 shrimp, 2 scallops and 1 small lobster tail. It’s just as well that the portions were so small since I was sick to my stomach for a day and a half after our dinner out. It was such a disappointment!
Small portions. Period.
I made reservations for a celebratory dinner and outlined my request clearly in the comments. My husband called earlier in the evening to re-iterate the request (indoor water view). Once we got to the restaurant our seating arrangement was less than ideal, and the hostess met our concerns dismissively. The food was okay but hard to justify the price point for the quality. Despite all of that, the servers were wonderful. I would think twice before returning to the Boathouse.
Great service. Give us some great suggestions. Attentive to our needs but not overbearing. The food was delish. The ambience Inside was okay but the rooftop bar for pre dinner drinks is where it’s at.
Easter family dinner.
came at tail end of easter brunch to celebrate my birthday too and I think some staff may have been a little fatigued.
My husband and I were celebrating Easter.
The service and food was exceptional! We arrived for a late Brunch, 2:00 pm, and most of the menu items were still available for ordering. We would definitely return to the Boathouse at Breach Inlet (even though it is located ~45 minutes from our home).
Easter lunch. Shrimp and grits were way too salty and had no grits. All peppers
The view from the upstairs deck bar are fantastic and the bartender makes a mean Bloody Mary. Service in the restaurant was great and on par with the food and dining experience. We went early and walked the nearby beach. Really nice spot.
The food was not impressive. Way to many options in Charleston to waste your money here.
Great food and great service! The server was very friendly and the food came out in a timely manner.
Service was quick and great. Food always has been fresh, tasty and consistent.
Great service ! Loved the views and food was good
Good food and service, even with restaurant packed.
Great meal. Pretty good service.
Meal went back because of wrong salad dressing. Second time around fried food was cold. Won't go back.
first time visit, very disappointed in the portion size for the price, I have had prawns that were larger than the lobster tail, crab soup had shell pieces in it, and was only warm when served, poached seafood mix lobster, scallops, shrimp, were partially cold, plus 1 small tail , 2 scallops, and 6 small shrimp, for a meal priced over 30.00 ? you be the judge.
Manager was great. She checked on us 3x because our food was late coming out- or by her standards. We were completely fine though.. But she gave us free appetizers and cocktails. Food was wonderful!!
We ate up front with no view. Disappointed, but food was yummy.
