Boathouse at Breach Inlet
A timeless classic!! Food was great, service was awesome, views were amazing!
It was great as always!
It looks like a dump from the outside and never seems to have any business during the day. But at night, especially a weekend night it is packed. Valet parking, check, as there is small parking lot. Reservations taken, check, and honored exactly on time. Great upper outdoor bar with a view of the sunset to wait. Friendly customers and staff, check. We met two couples in the bar waiting. And they ended up sitting on either side of us for dinner. Very pleasant dining room and pleasant appetite enticing odors. And the food was great.
Seems like they have increased their prices quite a bit. The prices are now about the same as a nice downtown restaurant. Our food came out cold. Our waitress was super nice and apologetic but for the amount they are charging there for dinner, I would expect better food that is actually warm. Next time we will just go downtown.
We tried this local eatery once again hoping it got better. It is expensive, there are not many entrees for &30 and under, but we knew that. We got a bad oyster to start with. Something was noticeably reeking when it arrived at our table. So the tone of the meal began to go down hill! The soup was good, although after the bad oyster, it should have been complimentary. Bread arrived after the soup. We waited a good 20 minutes for our entrees. The sides were not hot, probably sat under a lamp waiting to reach our table, the salmon was over cooked and dry. The
swordfish was somewhat better. The restaurant was far from filled, we are locals and we’ve been there at full capacity. Can’t blame it on over busy. With the view obscured by darkness, there is little to offer. Expensive, badly prepared food with loud rock and roll blaring throughout the place. I hardly want to hear hard rock at our Saturday night dinner. We asked for it to be lowered, but never happened. This was one of our favorite restaurants for years. It went downhill but we decided to give it another chance. A wrong, costly and unfulfilling decision. Nothing worse than a bad expensive meal in a place that had better memories.
Had a reservation for two. Was put in a corner bench table. Appetizer did not come out hot. Wife’s fish and side vegetables were undercooked and cold. Server was good. However, it was not worth the 100$ bucks. Very disappointed. I’ve been coming to this restaurant over ten years.. havnt been in the last year. Not sure if it is under new management/ownership but it was not up to par. For the money I would be reluctant to go back. I will try again just based on the history of coming for so long.. I hope for a better experience.
This was my second visit. My girlfriend's loved it but my steak was under cooked. I even suggested they butterfly the Filet mignon but they did not and instead of making a new one, they recooked the already eaten filet. I thought that was against some rule but I still tried it and one piece was still really red. I just paid the full check instead of complaining anymore. Probably will not be back. Actually, I know I will not go back. Ambiance was good though.
Service at the upstairs bar was non existent. Need at least 2 bartenders on Friday evening. Rude hostesses as well. One of my very favorite restaurants in Charleston but service needs improvement.
The food is always amazing as is the service. We love the view which is very nice. The valet parking is also appreciated. It is a boathouse, so we expect a bit of noise which makes it seem festive.
Oysters are very pricey. Tried the local Bulls Bay oysters (6) for $24.I had the tilefish which was good but small portion for $32. Wife had crab cakes that were average at best. Other couple had whole fried flounder which they said was great. Good ambiance but compared to my Louisiana seafood I’m used too it has a long way to go. Will say was impressed with flavor of oysters I tried, worth a try if you are a oyster lover.
They have some of the best calarmari we've ever had and make a very generous martini. Our daughter loved the extra crispy fried chicken. The raw oysters were splendid! Another of our group really enjoyed the shrimp and grits. We would go back.
We enjoyed our dinner at the Boathouse mostly due to the great service given by our waiter and the time of day we planned our meal around. (Sunset) The location is the selling point . The food , although decent, was just ok . I really wished they had the barriers/ screens/ covers on the dining deck off... it would have made a world of difference. Would I go back? Probably for drinks and to watch the sunset and see the dolphins!
For what we paid, seafood combo plate had no flavor- butter sauce was watery and not much butter or salt; service was overwhelmed so our order took forever to come and when ordering a glass of wine, it also took forever to be delivered. For two of us we paid $115 for two entrees and four drinks and were there for two hours. Not worth it.
The food was very expensive and over cooked, and it was extremely loud out on the patio. The food also took forever to come out. However, our waiter and other staff were awesome.
Early seating was a great idea - prompt service as usual so we had plenty of time to get upstairs for sunset (fantastic view).
Food was amazing, great views from the roof bar, waiter was very good, we had a reservation, and were seated timely.
Very disappointed in our meal at The Boathouse on 8 March. Had a dinner reservation for 3 people at 7:45 pm and arrived early, approx 7:30. The Boathouse was very full and we were informed our table would be ready pretty close to the reservation time. The bar was full so we went upstairs to the other bar, which is more like an outdoor patio bar. We ordered 2 drinks and I was surprised to see wine poured into a plastic cup. When I inquired, the answer was, we have limited room up here and no way to wash glasses....STRIKE 1.
At 7:45, I went down to check on our reservation and the young lady looked at a particular table and said, they look like they will be finishing up soon, so I went back upstairs. At 8, I returned and the young lady looked at the same table with a perplexed look. I said, you keep looking at a single table, is that all you have, to which she replied, well we have bigger parties coming in. I guess someone from management overheard and looked for another table. We were finally seated about 8:05. No Strike here because I understand diners and reservations and being patient.
We ordered 2 appetizers; calimari which was rather nice and the smoke trout which could have been nice but found particularly salty. We waited approx 30 minutes for our entrees which the waiter apologized for and she stated they had a large engagement party. The dirty dishes on the table next to us for about 10 minutes...STRIKE 2.
Entrees were disappointing. Two of us had the saute seafood and the other fried. On the saute; the seasoning overpowers the seafood flavor. The shrimp were overcooked and the split lobster tail looked like 1/2 of one of the halves had been removed. I would honestly say, the piece of meat was about 1 inch long.
The fried platter was better. The shrimp perfect and appeared larger than what the two of us received on the saute platter.
The server was very nice even though she was busy. But sadly, overcooked shrimp, overpowering STRIKE 3!
The Boathouse is one of our favorites when dining out. The food and service are always very good. During our most recent visit, the kitchen was very backed up and there was a very lengthy delay in receiving our dinner. Our waiter, Decker, was very attentive and apologetic during the wait. He handled the delay perfectly in our opinion. Will definitely return - soon.
Awesome as always. Thanks boathouse. Fun sentimental favorite.
The brunch menu is a little limited but the food was great. The service was good as well. I’m sure during the warmer season it would be much more interesting.
Love to eat at the boathouse whenever we go to isle of psalms from Columbia. Wish I could eat there more often. Cannot beat those lobster tails. They’re my favorite. Can’t wait to come back.
Great food, excellent service, awesome sunset! I will definitely be back.
My husband and I enjoyed our dinner in this cool, beachy restaurant. We had soup & salads and drinks, no entrees. The ambiance was nice but tables are very close together. It is in a good location - I'm sure a cool one in the summer!
Friendly waiter could tell our party of 4 how each food was prepared and it's ingredients.
We were quite disappointed with our dinner. My husband ordered the rudder fish. Skin was left on also, it had a fishy taste. Sent it back. They took it off the check. I gave him half my dinner which were crab cakes. The size of silver dollars. In addition we ordered mac & cheese dried out. The shrimp cocktail was very good. Drinks and shrimp cocktail if we ever go back. We are also local residents.
We were entertaining family from out of town and needed a nice place to take them where we knew we would get a great meal and great service. We had a great time.
Great as usual!
Everything was good except witnessing one of the hostess’s failure to wash their hands upon leaving the restroom, and the managers didn’t seem bothered when I told them. Other than that, the food was really good, but the risotto could use a little more salt and pepper.
This was our first visit to the Boathouse. We were looking for somewhere new to go and their website looked really good with a fresh clean appearance. The reality was much different. We were there on a Thursday night in February. The people there were either older couples like us or families. But, it was obvious in warm weather this is a popular watering hole, showing the wear and tear. We asked to be seated with a water view but the view was through scratched, dirty vinyl roll-up curtains. In my opinion the food was overpriced especially considering the condition of the restaurant when we were there. Clearly a popular place but not one we would return to.
Very delicious food. The service was perfect and very friendly. In the summer time it could be better if you could sit outside.
Service was excellent. Feels like a bit of the polish has worn off. Sign at the door requests "appropriate dress," but ball caps, camo, and VERY casual attire was in full force. Still a great spot at sunset to watch dolphins, etc. Great bar, stellar staff. Just not anything special anymore.
We have dined at the Boathouse on many occasions and have enjoyed the food and service tremendously. The previous time the food was somewhat disappointing but the restaurant was busy so we chalked it up to that. We decided that we would dine elsewhere for a couple of months.
Saturday night was our first time back and we should have known better when we got there and it was standing room only in the entrance and around the bar. Our reservation was at 7:15 and we were seated about 7:45 which wasn’t a problem. My husband ordered a half dozen oysters on the half shell after he questioned the size because they were extremely small the last time. He was told they were a “pretty good size” ; however, they were once again very small.
For our entrees we both ordered the fried shrimp and oysters. It took a while to get them to the table but understandably, they were swamped. I’m actually a patient person when it comes to that because I have worked in the food industry and you can only serve it as fast as it’s cooked. When we received the entrees both had horribly overcooked shrimp and oysters. I started to send mine back but I knew it would be another half hour or so before I received a replacement which probably would have been overcooked as well.
The Boathouse has always been one of our favorite places to go and take visitors. Too bad that the last couple of times it has been a huge disappointment.
Excellent drinks at the bar! Downhill from there. We waited 50 minutes for Our food and was cold to lukewarm. The poached seafood plate was to include scallops shrimp lobster. They forgot the scallops. The asparagus ends were not cut off and over cooked. It was to be a butter citrus sauce on the seafood and was over powered by wine and at $30 a plate it was way overpriced for the quality. My husbands swordfish was to be broiled and came blackened and was also over cooked and dry. A very sad piece for the price. We asked to see the manager and told our waitress. She didn’t offer to bring the scallops and he did not show. Left unsatisfied.
We had reservations for 6:45 and the hostess said there will be an additional 10 minute wait, mean while another couple came in and were seated. We got up and asked the hostess and then we were seated. The waitress seemed very rushed and every time I tried to ask for club soda she was long gone. I ordered lobster tails and the server brought out something different than what I ordered and when I told him that wasn’t my order he was visually annoyed. The waitress came out and said he’s overwhelmed ( not my problem) and said my dinner was next to the one he picked up. Service was poor and food was ok. First time there and last. I rather spend my money at Grille 225. No thanks on this one.
We thoroughly enjoyed sitting and watching the sun set.
It was good food with great service
Our annual Valentines dinner was excellent as always. We will continue this tradition for years to come.
Just not good at all. Gross, in fact.
The pink shrimp were actively gross. 100% would never go back.
My first visit here and will be back again as a regular. Food is fresh and service is top notch.
