Boat Club Restaurant and Bar
Lunch: Daily: 11:00am - 4:00pm
Dinner: Sunday - Thursday: 4:00pm - 10:00pm, Friday & Saturday: 4:00pm - 11:00pm
This is our second time there--first time was for last year's anniversary dinner, also.
We were a bit early for our reservation, so we sat at the bar for 15+ minutes. When the hostess informed us that we were waiting for the folks before us to clear the table we reserved, she suggested that it might be awhile. We took a second row table, instead. Still, a wonderful view.
But, by the time we ordered, they were out of mussels for horderves so we settled for coconut shrimp. When I ordered my filet migon rare, it came over cooked--more medium than even medium rare. I was admonished by our waitress, Liz, that I should have ordered it 'blood rare'!!! (Geez!!! Never had a problem EVER on this issue at other restaurants!!!)
I had asked that there be a cake or dessert for our anniversary celebration as a surprise to my husband, but nothing ever came of that. Nonetheless, we had creme brulee which was fabulous!!!
While the entire experience wasn't perfect, it was still wonderful and we will bring out-of-town friends there in when they visit in August.
Wonderful date night. Looking for good food and good atmosphere, I found both in the Boat Club. One of the first things they do is put a shipping schedule and a pair of binoculars on your table. The cocktails, full of local flavor, were delicious. The menu isn’t very big, and if you’re looking for local fare in the food, you’re going to be disappointed. But if you’re feeling a good steak or seafood, this is quite wonderful. Our server, Liz, was an absolute HOWL, so don’t fear this place being stuffy. If you get some nice weather, there’s outdoor dining with a spectacular view of the lake, access to the lake walk, and a nice sample of everything downtown Duluth has to offer.
Tilapia was ok. Not seasoned well. Wild rice was very hard and tasted woody. Chicken breast was very tasty and asparagus was done perfectly.
We have been to the Boat Club many times. This time it was very disappointing.
I chose it for our Anniversary this year thinking it would be a nice change from the other limited restaurants in our area. We were seated immediately at a nice reserved table with a window over looking Lake Superior. The Waiter greeted us and took our drink order, We were settling in when the table next to us began making a lot of noise. This went on for the entire dinner. The food and service were very good.
The atmosphere was terrible and our Anniversary dinner ruined, Would we go back ? Maybe we will, but we will sit outside or in the bar area where it is quite and you can hear and have a conversation without yelling. If someone makes a reservation and notes a special occasion the restaurant should make an effort to make it a great time and maybe find a private area for that party.
We made a reservation inside, but after seeing the tables set up overlooking the lake we asked if we could be moved outside - the hostess gladly sat us outside. Drinks and an appetizer were quickly delivered. Our server took back a drink that my friend thought was too sweet, free of charge, and replaced it with a different one. There was live music and a beautiful sunset throughout dinner. Everyone liked their meal and the server gave us recommendations on where to go for the rest of the night. Overall, a great experience!
Candace and Maria provided outstanding service. Thank you both for two nights of great dining!
Service was terrific. The brunch food was inventive. A nice change of pace.
We always enjoy our dinners here. My pistachio crusted salmon was perfectly cooked. The beet salad was innovative and very tasty. Wine list is good. We will definitely go back.
Good food, but very slow service! The restaurant was not crowded. They seemed to be out of many items on the menu and in the bar. 2 cocktails that were not the best. Great ambiance and friendly service.
The fish and the steak were both over cooked. For the price, we expect more attention to customers wishes. We have frequented the restaurant in the past but will likely not return.
The food was amazing! Our server, Larry, was fantastic as well. My wife has celiac disease and they took very good care of us to make sure her meal was gluten free. Definitely going to be back!
Fantastic food and great service with a captivating view. It can’t get any better!
This is my second visit to The Boat Club and was not disappointed. It has a very nice atmosphere overlooking the lake with nice decor. The service was outstanding which in turn made the meal. The food was very good with a lot of food options. This is one of the spendier restaurants in Duluth so we use it for special occasions and couldn’t be happier to have this caliber of fine dining available locally.
A group of us were looking forward to getting together for happy hour at the Boat Club--none of us had been there since reopening. Though I loved the decor, and refreshing and crisp new look, we all agreed we should have gone somewhere else. The hostess was welcoming and gracious. We ordered several apps which were tasty and fair amount for the half price selections. House wine was surprisingly good. However, our server (Liz?), left little to be desired. We clearly had broken a rule by being seated in the dining room for happy hour. How were we to know that? I found nothing online, no one stated that, and I didn't see it on the menu. We all agreed we did not feel welcomed, she was loud, unprofessional, (told us what she hated on the menu) and while we were only having apps and were undecided about staying for dinner her service was so off putting we decided to go elsewhere for dinner. Left a bad taste in our mouth and will likely not return. Too many other spots to spend our dining dollars. :-(
WE had a nice experience and the server was very good. The one thing I would suggest is that the server waits to offer dessert until dinner is finished and that the check is NOT ever brought to the table unless asked for. This made our dinner feel a bit rushed, and we would have stayed and had coffee and dessert had we been allowed to digest and relax before immediately being presented with the check.
Excellent food and service! They do seafood at East Coast quality.
Great Drinks, Great Service , Great Food & A Fantastic View! We had specialty cocktails, that were unique and delish! We enjoyed food selections from the Pasta, Meat & Seafood sections- each item was fantastic! The portions and flavors were perfect. We even took home the extra Short Rib Ragu from our Ravioli dish, to warm with pasta the next night! We ended our meal with a tasty dessert, that also made an appearance the following night! If we find ourselves in Duluth again, we will be back!
Enjoyed this restaurant while staying overnight in Duluth at Fitzger's inn. Would try again! Lovely wait staff!
Very nice restaurant with lake shore view.
Subpar experience. The food was underwhelming. I had scallops which were good but both steaks were prepared wrong and did not appear to be quality cuts.
Excellent view! Very good waitress, but extremely slow food service on a night where it was not that busy, waited almost 90 minutes to get our entrees. Plus they ran out of Clam Chowder, which most reviewers raved about. How do you run out by 7PM?!? Entrees were excellent, but vegetable sides were either over cooked (asparagus) or almost raw (Brussel sprouts). After dishes were cleared, we waited for dessert menu...received our check instead?!? Took the hint and left. General impression: Excellent entrees, great view, overpriced menu with very slow food service, but pleasant waitresses. Excellent drink menu, but wine list very overpriced for bottles...wines by the glass were superb selections, reasonably priced
We were a couple but were seated next to a noisy group of people and should have requested a move because we seemed to be part of that noisy group and could not converse- however I think the host should have picked up on that since that noisy group was seated prior to our arrival
The vegetables were very good. The atmosphere is good. The steak was a virtual puddle of grease and we couldn't eat it. Upon reporting this we were presented with regrets. There should have at least been a reduction of the bill.
It was a find on a whim and it was great! Didn’t disappoint at at. It was pretty empty which was a little shocking considering how great it was. Staff super friendly and food was amazing!
Service was good. Got the seafood cioppino - mussel wasn't open so sent back. Server came back with one. Sick all night. Seafood poisoned me. Date's steak was underdone.
Stayed at Fitger's hotel and complained in morning. Got apology but nothing more. Will not return. Should have credited meal or something. Very expensive stay for a sick night.
We had a nice dinner on my husband's birthday. The food was very good and the server friendly and helpful.
Great food and loved the whole experience
Scallops were excellent. All of our items (scallops with baked polenta, crab cakes, pasta dish) were nicely prepared and served. Shout out to Larry our server who was knowledgeable, friendly, joyful, and attentive. The food preparation was slow due to a large party group whose order was placed just prior to ours, but it didn’t affect our evening.)
We unfortunately experienced a near-by LOUD table. We could not hear our guests’ comments. We will come again, but we expect to be able to ask our service attendants to ask loud people to turn it down. We were with a friend we had not seen for years. Other tables should not be able to yell and cause disturbance. Your restaurant is great! Please do not become a sports bar mentality. Thank you. And thank you for the good food (and the window seat). We’ll be back.
We went to the Boat Club on Mother’s Day. The food was just ok, nothing special like I’ve experienced in the past. When food supply was low on the buffet, it wasn’t always filled promptly or, in the case of the salads, not @ all. Our reservation was later in the afternoon but I would still expect the buffet items to be re-filled. I will say the crab cakes were very good but other than that, nothing special. I was very disappointed.
We went for Mother's Day Brunch and it was very well done. Our server could've been a little more attentive to our large party, but overall it was quite pleasant.
Our server was very friendly and attentive. We had a beautiful view of the lake.7
I had a pre-Mother's Day lunch yesterday with my mom and six of her friends. I brought bud vases for the attendees and a centerpiece two hours beforehand to be put on the table for our luncheon at a requested lakeside window table setting. I arrived 10 minutes before the event. The restaurant was one-quarter full. The table was not by the window nor were the flowers placed on the table. Ugh!!! The service and food were very good, the hostess totally dropped the ball.
Food and service excellent as always. Beautiful view of Lake Superior, a great bonus.
Reservation was on time and server was punctual. Fancy setting but after placing our order, 4 to 5 other tables that ordered after us had their food and we hadn't received anything. After an hour we left. This place looked very nice for our engagement dinner but I will never go back. Our server apologized but it was not her fault. No one from management even bothered to talk to me when I asked to speak with them. Place was not at 50% capacity either. Highly disappointing.
NY strip and filet were tasty. Server was Twin Ports cordial and that was nice.
Additions to the entrees: grilled shrimp were worth the price, but the scallops, two small ones, I thought not, though spouse still enjoyed them.
We will return.
Location and Lake Superior view can't be beat! Wonderful meal, superb staff!
First time diners. Excellent dinner, loved the popovers and the Boat Club G&T. A bit in the pricey side but felt it was worth it for the meal served.
There were 10 of us. All the foods ordered were prepared as desired. The service was excellent.
